These are shipped or sold-in numbers that SEGA/Atlus are referring to as sales, not sold-through. They'd have no way to declare them as sold-through as the game literally just came out.

That said, it will sell-through all of the initially shipped going by metrics, so congrats to them on delivering a quality JRPG. The more footage I see of it, the more I appreciate its slick interface and like the concept. It's basically Atlus's Final Fantasy mixed with Persona and a bit of SMT.

Now, I wonder if SEGA will provide platform splits, or is that under embargo by Phil & co. 🤔⁉.....

Keep in mind this is just the second global launch for Atlus. P3R was the first so you can't really compare with the previous Personas and stuff.

Just wait. Only PlayStation is capable in achieving such high numbers with 3rd Party IPs. Square Enix will come to their senses. It's the fanboys from the other camps who will continue to be in denial.

It went up to 62k CCU so it's doing great. The reviews saved them because before it was tracking very low.

These weird comparisons...
1m first shipment is good for a new niche JPRG from Atlus... they are probably happy.
3m first shipment is not good for a know FF from Square Enix... they are probably not happy.
I mean why not compare FF sales with Persona sales? Both today are mainstream (Persona after 5) and not niche.

BTW preorder for Metaphor should not be that bad because initial shipment is based most in preorders and what the retail thinks will sell.

It is hard to compare with similar games even from Atlus because they don't ship globally for most titles..

For example.

Persona 5 first shipment was 500k but for Japan only.
Plus Persona is basically the most popular JRPG name from Atlus and Persona 5 basically broke the niche bubble.
Persona 5 alone ended selling over 8 million with the Royal and remaster.

Nobody expect Metaphor to reach Persona 5 numbers.

Shin Megami Tensei that is the main series is not that popular like Persona... the last game Shin Megami Tensei V is trying to reach 2 million sales after the remaster.

IMO if Metaphor can reach/break 2 million lifetime it will be a great achievement and set the base for a sequel to reach high level in sales.
