"It's a bit of a change of strategy," Microsoft admits.

Microsoft wants to bring Xbox Game Pass to PlayStation and Nintendo. Xbox CFO Tim Stuart said during the Wells Fargo TMT Summit this week that the goal is to make first-party games and Game Pass available on "every screen that can play games," and this includes rival consoles.

"It's a bit of a change of strategy. Not announcing anything broadly here, but our mission is to bring our first-party experiences [and] our subscription services to every screen that can play games," Stuart said. "That means smart TVs, that means mobile devices, that means what we would have thought of as competitors in the past like PlayStation and Nintendo."

Stuart said Game Pass is a "high margin" business for Microsoft, along with first-party games and advertising. These are all areas that Microsoft plans to expand into significantly in the time ahead, Stuart said. The executive added that buying Activision Blizzard helps Microsoft get there faster than it might have been able to on its own.

For the advertising part specifically, the Candy Crush mobile game series from King--which is now owned by Microsoft--is deeply embedded with ads and microtransactions.

They really want to devalue Playstation until Sony can't make a profit by selling games. MS is just buying market share until they control all the content and we're stuck paying them to play games.

Nintendo is a lost cause for siding with them.

Where it’s at.

Nintendo and MS are birds of a feather, both are predatory, sleazy companies.

If MS made a deal with Samsung/LG to bundle an Xbox controller with new TVs, would lots of people sign up for Gamepass Ultimate Streaming?

It seems plausible, but Stadia crashed and burned so hard it feels like The Market has spoken on this.

This sounds like, "We're not ready to talk about being a Third Party Publisher".

Days are numbered at this point for any hope or semblance of old-school xbox.

It’s their best bet, though Nintendo is very rough on 3rd party apps. They don’t even have Netflix on Switch.

Changed strategy…

Well I said they goal was that when the rumors about Gamepass started.

I don’t believe a random could guess it but the head at MS didn’t think about that.

It was their goal at beginning.

At this point, I hate Microsoft and Xbox so much, I likely won't be buying their games even after they go 3rd party unless they're on a deep discount.

Something, something, something... DARK SIDE!

I feel like there is no alternate path now for Xbox...3rd party or they just die stranded on their irrelevant console.

I feel what they're saying, but I don't see it in their actions. Why doesn't PS get Bethesda games anymore? Are PS players going to get non cod ABK games? If they want gamepass on PS, why not offer Sony a version of GP with Xbox exclusive games on it? Their messaging is a mess and honestly idk what they want fr. Either you lock the content to your walled garden and commit or you go full multiplat. They seem on the fence.

They have to force Sony and Nintendo to allow Gamepoop into their storefronts somehow.
