'Even a 'moderate' increase to MS strength could give them too much power in cloud'
Meaning CMA could block any medium sized acquisition of a publisher or large developer in the future on the same grounds, that would be fantastic for the health of gaming TBH.
Ah Trup1aya, always a capper for the acquisition (despite not even having an Xbox). Realistically, who can compete with Microsoft in the cloud gaming space when it comes to infrastructure? Do these people forget that Microsoft leverages Azure? That they have used their Azure backbone to garner some key gaming partners like Sega, who in turn have been providing content for Game Pass and, since it's still tied to that service, xCloud? That's just one of the advantages Microsoft has with their cloud infrastructure, not to mention cloud-based backbone development systems like Azure Playfab. Is Boosteroid going to be able to compete with that? Nope.
Which is kind of a reason Microsoft were handing out deals to these companies: none of them really pose a threat to their cloud platform in the grand scope of things. Nvidia is arguably the closest but they still pale in comparison to Azure. And the CMA brought up a good point in that these companies MS are making the deals with are just basically acting as extensions for their Azure pipeline. The companies are still wholly dependent on Microsoft for the access to content and how they can leverage the content. Also oddly enough the deals have only been for COD and none of the other ABK IP.
Just realised that Sullivan over at Resetera requested a self ban. Most likely because of the CMA blocking the MS - ATVI merger.
Lol seriously!? Amazing. Guess he can't cap any longer knowing the deal is starting to fall apart at the seams and a lot of people are being more openly vocal about the merits of the deal in the first place.
Or maybe in good conscious he can't keep capping for a company whose President is pretty much threatening economic warfare with the UK over the CMA's decision.
I seen people saying the CMA has broken the law. What law have they broken because I haven't the scooby of which law they broke
Some of them have been around trying to say Lina Khan's meeting with some people at the CMA was illegal and they think it's a "gotcha".
Except it isn't, because it's been known for a while that the three Western regulators would be in discussions with each other, this was known for a few years now. Especially in regards to deals with global implications, which the MS/ABK acquisition would fall under.
But these people are so butthurt, they don't realize how bad their conspiracy theory makes MS & ABK look. Because if two regulatory bodies conversing with each other on an ongoing investigation is enough to call illegal, then these people don't understand how reality works. As if the FBI, NSA and CIA haven't shared information and evidence amongst each other on cases one of those agencies is handling, is
that illegal? Hell, government agencies of different countries have worked together on cases that affect the all of them, is that suddenly illegal too?
Worst yet, these bozos are basically saying that if the FTC and CMA can't share notes or certain information, they're implying that MS & ABK have potentially lied or misled one of the regulatory bodies, and don't want them to find out. Because if they've been upfront with their evidence to these regulators, having some of that cross-referenced for validity (well, that info would eventually be considered valid or false if the main purpose is to learn of the information's existence in the first place) would not be of concern.
If MS & ABK have to obfuscate information between regulatory bodies just to get a deal approved, maybe that deal deserves to be blocked after all. But this is all me speculating on what those people have been trying to imply since they are in their five stages of grief.
