I’m having a hard time trying to understand the thought process with some of the replies in this thread, or rather the lack of a thought process.

Let’s say Xbox opens up to other storefronts, those store fronts wouldn’t be able to magically sell games that aren’t on Xbox and have to again, magically run with ZERO development on them being ported to that hardware.

Then to the other side of this idiocracy, imagine buying an Xbox branded handheld that’s literally just a windows handheld E.G. ROG Ally, Letion Go, to then access the PC storefront of Steam/Epic to buy Spiderman or Helldivers then claim “Look I’m playing it on an Xbox!”…. Is quite possibly one of the dumbest things I’ve had the displeasure to type out in quite some time. Like, why are so many people so insufferably dumb.
The sad thing is xbox leadership sound exactly like the type of dumbasses that would think this would work.

Sony fucked themselves and it's really hilarious to watch. Let's see, what are they're going to do about it. Twitter & media is going to be unbearable.
Ohhhhhh…

They just forget Sony is working I their own PC PS Store…
That basically kill their dream 🤷‍♂️

It would be implemented through Xbox becoming a PC brand, so that PC games can run on it, and giving up any pretense of taking a 30% cut of everything. Basically they give up and lose all the benefits of platform ownership in order to make it look like they're not dead.
Maybe the growth would be made up in traffic to their store and services? Also why would they give up on the 30% cut?

Because devs will just upload it on the EGS store and be able to get the game to Xbox users while getting a better cut, and not spending money developing on Xbox devkits?

This is a certainly weird thing for Xbox, but it does seem beneficial to the consumers atleast..

Because to get a cut you need to have a store. Who would develop specifically for an exclusive-free Xbox that hosts 3rd party stores like Epic when we have reports of 3rd party publishers wondering why they even bother with it now?

Who would even buy a device like that? No exclusives means no incentive to shop with Xbox. No store, effectively, means no cut. No cut means no hardware subsidy. No hardware subsidy means the consumer pays PC prices for a worse experience, if a worse experience than PC is even possible.

I think Xbox will still always have exclusives or atleast as time goes on.. timed exclusives. Because they have a ton of studios. And I still think the Xbox store will exist since they console is a cheap access to 4k gaming, and includes a awesome subscription which is pretty good for consumers, having epic on that would also be kind of cool since consumers would have multiple choices, and have their current epic games playable on their xbox.

This to me sounds like laying the ground work for getting rid of Xbox "consoles," making them all little Windows PCs and having an "Xbox App." But it will all just be PC devices, and will let you install PC software as a result.

They can say this now and make it sound like it's what they wanted all along, when in reality it will just be failure and their way out of the console business.

There’s no way Xbox can run these PC stores and respective games natively on their consoles unless through cloud, isn’t it? PC version and xbox version are still pretty much different. It means even if Steam/Epic is on Xbox, the devs still need to work a port version. Sony can directly refuse porting at this stage. It’s not like Steam/Epic or MS is gonna do the ports for Sony. Unless, the next Xbox is really a PC.

This sounds like Phil is in a fantasy world utopia that doesn't actually exist in reality. Jack of all trades, master of none. Seriously, even in a coma, I could run the Xbox brand better than Phil and the rest of the brain trust at Microsoft. SMFH!!

This is Microsoft killing the console industry with no survivors. People warned of this years ago and here we are.

A PC box would kill the Xbox brand and mortally wound Playstation, as the best place to play would be PC.

Why even have a console industry at that point?

It would be a PR disaster for Sony. The bean counters are getting what they deserve.

That’s not how it works.

Firstly the games need to be ported over.

Secondly it’s the publishers who decide where their games are sold.

Have you forgot Sony removing Sony games off Geforce Now and just now Bandai Namco removing Tales games of PS store.

You don't get it. Phil is a Visionary.

You said that to us and defended that position furiously.

A lot of people buy consoles because they're cheaper than building a pc with similar specs aswell as being much simpler to use & jist get straight into the games
