Welp, however this is resolved whether Palworld wins or they loose they will sell to Sony & build up the building blocks & making a Pokemon competitor with all the data.

The question still stands on whether the devs uses ai & are they actually talented to mimic the success.

More reason why PS shouldn’t be releasing there games on Nintendo. Your not gonna be able to buy Palworld devs & releases these small spin offs on Nintendo thinking it’s cool if anything if I was Nintendo I would block games like Lego Horizon & Freedom wars just so they either survive on PS or they die on PS & limits PS growth/profits. PS needs to build & double down on there console not do whatever there doing w the PS5 generation they’ve been making mistake over mistake & disaster announcements/investment after another

Nah they gonna win. Palworld devs literally ripped Pokemon character models/assets from official games, made like 1% changes, then slapped them into Palworld.

There was a Twitter thread that showed the shocking similarity in character model geometry for a few of the characters between both games. I imagine that's what's lead to this lawsuit.

Most likely, the two sides will settle out of court, but it does make Sony in particular look a bit foolish going into the joint partnership thing knowing this legal grey area was hanging in the background. Sure, the allure of their own Pokemon was too strong to resist, but there are safe ways to do it (Yu Gi Oh, Digimon etc.), and then there's...well there's how Palworld did it 🤣

Did either of those have games where they potentially ripped Pokemon models wholesale, changed a few polygons & textures, then called it a day? I don't remember that ever happening.
That isn't patent infringement, its trademark infringement. Nintendo clearly found something else.

That was the most obvious copy ever but they waited way too long. Pocketpair are billionaires at this point. They can fight whatever Nintendo throws at them.

Rumour is the PS5 version will be announced next week. What will happen to that. It's like Nintendo had no issues when the game was Xbox exclusive 😬

Because it takes mere weeks to compile a case like this.... But yes, I'm sure its because Xbox.

Sorry Exanthus but sending an injunction takes 5 minutes. Anybody with eyes could tell Palword was a blatant ripoff. You don't need to build your whole case from A to Z for months before doing something.

The timing is fishy and that is that.

And they released an official statement about it 7 months ago. Did you forget it was released on Steam too?

That dude admitted he doctored the pictures btw

Oh, well then he's an idiot.

But that just means Nintendo's lawsuit must be on different grounds. Again, it's probably related to something in Palworld's codebase, that's an implementation of a system/mechanic that Nintendo patented, and that Palworld illegally utilized in some way without Nintendo's legal consent.

And yes there is precedent for patented code-based systems in gaming: Namco did it back in 1995 with the "mini-game loading screen" (like the Galaxian one in Ridge Racer).

Kind of like reverse-engineering a BIOS, but not doing a clean-room job with it so you're liable to a big lawsuit.

In this case then Bandai Namco should also sue Nintendo because Super Mario Bros and its sequels "plagiarized" many things from Pac-Land, and Sony/Media Molecule should also sue Nintendo because several more modern Mario/Yoshi/Kirby games plagiarized ideas from Little Big Planet or Tearaway.

Well Nintendo is supposed to be best buds with Xbox so surely someone at Nintendo would've reached out to Phil Spencer & said 'hey dude wtf can you cancel that gamepass deal you have with this ripoff game, not cool man'

Maybe Sony lawyers thought Nintendo had nothing so went into the partnership 🤷

Been a Nintendo fan since a kid. But I hope Palworld fuck them up, Nintendo’s arrogance needs a kick in the face. Stopping pirating games is one thing, the rest is stupid. You really arent that special…
