Yup. It's not a controversial take that Israel is currently committing a massive genocide and in 50 years historians will look back on this akin to the 3rd Reich. It's shameful. Islam has its problems but we can't ignore the absolute atrocities being committed right now. This is not a political issue, it is a human issue.
I agree with you, but it's not uncontroversial unfortunately. We live in a world where the US, Canada, the UK, and France are boycotting the Nagasaki Peace Memorial because Israel was barred from it.
Regardless of the amount of evidence of wrongdoing in the nation, the mainstream American political sphere is strongly hesitant to actually hold Israel accountable, even when the International Criminal Court says otherwise.
The mods on this site have repeatedly said they don't want politics here, even though they're admittedly really bad at and wishy washy about enforcing that. I'm not surprised they are hesitant to allow talk about the issue when it's such a hot topic.
But it is also very telling when so much racism/homphobia/transphobia are allowed wrt political topics.
I imagine the mods are in a weird place where they don't want to be like resetera and neogaf wrt being banhappy; there's a desire to actually allow people to discuss topics, but it's at odds with how such a way of handling things makes it easier for bad actors to speak hate. Perhaps there's a struggle to capture a balance between freedom of discussion and preventing hate speech and infighting amongst members
I stopped clicking anything Kotaku over the same article and I never understood how Stephen Totilo didn't get more flak as editor for allowing the article with those pictures to be included. He got a job with Axios afterwards and God knows how he managed to explain that. I couldn't condone that article & photos in the least.
It's an odd article to be sure, and that they had those pictures on display is very....irresponsible. I was originally defending it because making sweeping judgements about the writers character seemed extreme to me, it being all cartoons. The Harry Potter bit is really especially skeevy when you think about it though; I don't entirely agree with my former stance anymore since giving it more thought.

All I'll say is Kotaku is extremely luck Emma Watson didn't get wind of it as she'd have sued them into the prehistoric age. I couldn't remember the article but I noped out the moment I was ambushed with the photos. I'm not a prude but mock ups of child porn is abhorrent. Totilo never got any blowback from it and it is known in games journalism anyway that editors add their own wording and shit to articles (maybe pics). Tim Rogers has definitely mentioned that before so potentially a journalist's article was altered and the writer was punished for something they may not have submitted.
Israel / Palestine is a minefield that shouldn't be discussed on here it will just be a headache for the sites staffbut politics is freely discussed here all the time
