In reality, most of the best selling 360 games were on PC.

Excluding Kinect Adventures, Halo 3 was the best selling exclusive 360 game. Followed by Halo 4 and Halo Reach.

Gears of War sold 1/3rd the number that Halo 3 sold, let alone the vast multiplatform games on it.

People actively chose Xbox 360 over PC, just as they continue to choose console over PC.

Fanboys are in their feels.. and they need to get over it.

I always told myself i would go back to PC gaming, if Sony decides to put its games on PC. I actually tried to go back a couple of years ago and you know what? I just didn't like it anymore for various reasons. The shitton of launchers i had to use were annoying but the dealbreaker was shader compilation stutter. I ended up selling the GPU just a few months later and went back to console, simply because i didn't have to deal with any of this stuff.

I just don't see the average Joe spending all this money on a gaming PC just because Sony decided to put God of War on PC. Casual gamers want simplicity and PC just isn't that. Sure, it's much easier than it used to be 20 years ago but it still doesn't compare to the ease of use of a console.

PC and console are just two different markets, even if the games overlap.

Most of the people here are probably too young to remember, but there was a very similar argument that releasing movies on home video would put an end to people going to movie theaters.

You used to not be able to get a VHS of a movie until a year+ after the movie released in theaters.

Jurassic Park released on VHS October 1994. The movie came out in June of 1993.

The release window shrank as studios realized they were losing out on the buzz and excitement of the movies and were hurting the home video release sales and cable deals.

Streaming might have a larger impact however as it is destructive to value much like GamePass is. If you have to spend 20+ dollars at a movie at home, most people would rather still see it in the theater. I think at some point if theater revenues continue to decline, we'll see the cost to streamers and the release window grow.

I'm going to try to limit my engagement with these fanboys because it's not about an actual debate, it's about their feelings. You can't debate feelings.

Xbox is failing because they've been shitting the bed for over a decade, not because of day 1 PC releases. Sure, they've lost some hardcore fans over this but the vast majority of people just aren't interested in the Xbox brand in general.

The 360 was doing well because it had good games and mainstream mindshare. Believe it or not but many 360 exclusives were also on PC.
If that is what you need to tell yourself...

I had a 360 and a PC during those days and a simultaneous release with PC was the exception, many game never even made it to PC at all even to this day, like Gears 3 and Halo 5. They even paid for game like Alan Wake that were originally PC only to be delayed on PC in favor of the 360. Epic, a big MS partner during the 360 days was openly anti-PC.

Sometimes a small difference of momentum over time can have a massive difference cumulatively, something small like a 5% reduction in growth each year might end up being the diffference between a massively successful platform and something like the Xbox.

But it seems the same people that couldn't see that focusing on PC and Gamepass would destroy Xbox now can't see how Sony porting their games to PC and treating PlayStation owners like second class citizens will have a bad outcome for them.

It wasn't simultaneous but many ended up on PC a couple of years later. People blow this way out of proportion and blame Xbox's downfall mainly on PC ports. If Microsoft actually gave a shit about marketing and creating good games that resonate with the mainstream audience (like they did with the 360) the console and overall brand wouldn't be where it is now.

You think its a coincidence that the quality of their games decreased and that they started to focus on GaaS as they embraced PC when all of that is directly connected and the same is happening with Sony.

You think that now that Sony is focused on PC they wont take in consideration that a game like Helldivers 2 is able to be many time more successful on PC than even their biggest single player AAA games? Waks up, PC is why the likes of Concord and Fairgame$ exist.

Yet again, you're ignoring that the best selling Xbox 360 games were in fact on PC.

Gears 3 sold peanuts compared to big blockbuster games.

Halo 5 was the worst selling Halo game at the time of its release. So how much would being on PC have actually hurt the game or console sales?

People made cogent arguments as to why GamePass would hurt Xbox. Those same cogent arguments haven't been made with Sony porting their games to PC.

But again, your argument is based in your feelings. You're a fanboy who feels like a second class citizen so your argument is that your feelings will be shared by the market in a way that is negative to Sony.

Your own words are evidence of your bias.

There's a big difference between TLOU being on PC and it not existing on PS. Where Xbox failed is that they didn't have TLOU, Spider-Man, Horizon, Ghost, e.t.c. not that these games might be on PC as well. GamePass made it even easier to not invest in their ecosystem. Hell you don't even need a PC to play starfield, you can play it on Geforce Now combined with PC gamePass. Even worse if you can get a free trial of GFN and a 1 dollar gamepass trial. (2 dollars now I think).

But anyways, you've earned ignore status for sure.

Imagine arguing in good faith that Xbox was ruined by Day 1 PC and arguing that Halo 5 is an example of the xbox being successful because it was a xbox exclusive, while ignoring that it was the worst selling Halo game... and the very example of the decline of Xbox... that ACTUALLY lead to its downfall...

Sitting with a metacritic score of an 84 and a user review score of a 6.4...

The revionist history is laughable...

Microsofts quality decreased years before the PC push. It started wíth the original Kinect.

Games like Concord and Fairgame$ exist because they're potentially bigger moneymakers than singleplayer games.

Wrong. Xbox One still had momentum even after the disastrous Xbox One release it pretty much died as soons as all game started to release on PC and it served no purpose anymore. Early on in that gen they were even doing comparatively better than Sony as far as showing up with some games before Phil Spencer took over and decided supporting PC was a good move for them.

PC is where AAA single player games go to get pirated with very few exceptions.

There's also this fantasy that GaaS is only popular on PC. The only reason why Helldivers 2 is doing better on PC than console is because it is a brand new game and the PC population is significantly larger than the PS5 population.

If this game had launched on PS4 in addition to PS5, the ratio would probably be in PlayStation's favor and as time goes on the ratio will probably start to improve on PS5.

Fortnite is more popular on console than it is on PC. It's also more popular on PlayStation than it is on Switch.

Absolutely money to be made with GaaS on PC, but it is disingenuous to say that the GaaS strategy is all about PC. It absolutely isn't.

Browse the top selling games on the PS Store.

21 of the top 24 are all live service games or games with live service elements.

The quality of their games started to decrease right after the Kinect push. The Xbox One had some momentum for a couple of years but that was mainly in NA. Here in Europe it was dead from day 1.

I don't even like PC gaming but ok. I'm here because i'm a Playstation fan and i thought this was a "safer" place but it seems like the overreactions here are worse than on the other two forums, lol.

I came to this site because the other two sites are political nightmares on both ends and I thought this site was more about industry conversations at least on first glance.

Then it turned out to be rabid Sony fanboys who are angry that Sony is changing as the industry changes.

We get the same topics by the same cornballs every day.

I've placed several on ignore now, but I'm not sure whether this forum will keep my interests, which is sad.

No need to convince me, we'll see how the decision of supporting PC will affect PlayStation first hand. So far AAA single player games have done extremely poorly and their support for PlayStation has been worse than ever.

Around 2019 or so my satisfaction with PlayStation took a nose dive, being a PlayStation owner until about 2018 felt way more rewarding. But hey, maybe pleasing your core costumers doesn't matter, the key must be pleasing Nvidia/Steam costumers and pirates.

Why are there console gamers then? Even before play anywhere became a thing PC had all those advantages over consoles, picture now.
- PC did not have all PlayStation and Xbox games releasing on it until recently.
- PC wasn't the only place to play PlayStation games without having to pay for online and save storage.
- PC wasn't the place where you could play the best versions of recent PlayStation games.
- There were no portable PCs like the Steam Deck (while PlayStation has no portable native device at all anymore).
- PC did not have NVidia as one of the biggest corporations in the world developing AI tech exclusively for it until very recently.

This is what Sony chose to empower and it is undoubtedly what will destroy their console business in the long run. Sony doesn't even disagree with me, they themselves haven't believed in consoles for a while now and made it pretty clear.

To them PC players matter a lot more than PlayStation players and they show this at every opportunity.

The same people that will tell you that Sony has regressed in development will tell you that the PS4 didn't hit its stride until 2016 and that they ignore that the second half of gaming generations are almost always significantly better than the first. And that the first half of this generation has been significantly better than the first half of the PS4 generation.

Instead, they want to compare the 2nd half of the PS4 to the first half of the PS5.

The same people will ignore that Uncharted 4 came 5 years after Uncharted 3. They'll also ignore that games take longer to develop now.

Again, these people are not serious people. Any rational gamers wouldn't say half the garbage that these people say ad nauseum.

I'm not trying to convince you. Why not Just switch to another platform if you're not satisfied? I'm a core customer too. Would like to see some first party announcements but overall, i'm more than satisfied.

how you ignored that the same studio have made The Last of Us?

Uncharted 3 2011
The Last of Us 2013 + Story DLC
Uncharted 4 2016 with development hell + big story DLC
