and it's not only that but they moved about 18 billion to longterms assets due to being in investment form, so, would be closer to 40 otherwise.

But yeah, you're right.

It will be interesting to see where they go from here. Bungie makes sense given their goal of launching 10 live-service games. I also appreciate that they chose to buy expertise and learn from it. Seems like a practical and smart way to approach things.

You guys really overestimate how much money Sony has lol. Acquisitions for them will have to remain relatively small, they're only worth 100 billion and only have 5 billion cash on hand.

They won't be purchasing any publishers, they can't afford them, period.
Please explain to me how Take Two (~$18-$20 billion market cap) acquired Zynga for $12 billion.

Probably never heard of loans or paying in installments either.
yeah, i talked about that before. somehow people just ignores that sony can take a loan. they have a lot of cash on hand plus loans, they could by Take2 with ease and couple more. question is, are they willing to expand so much and keep in Quality control? this is no Housemarque or other smaller studios which working like well oiled machine. those pubs are huge with thousands of developers and structures.

Err, microsoft had nothing to do with that decision. It was stipulated in the contract that minecraft be multiplatform or else they wouldn't sell to microsoft. Microsoft had no other choice
I think how MS acts with Activision will be a factor too
And again people are pushing false narratives to try and make microsoft look like "the nice guys"

"But microsoft allows multiplatform out of the goodness of their corporate blackened hearts"🤣

-Minecraft is multiplatform because it was in the contract or else he was not going to sell to microsoft

-Call of Duty is multiplatform because the FTC demanded it, or else the deal would have been blocked much sooner. Call of Duty being multiplatform is literally microsoft making a huge concession in order to appease regulators and try to pass the deal. How are people not smart enough to get that or understand that. You think the deal was going to pass as is lol. No, microsoft is having to make a lot of concessions to pass it through. The only concern is if Microsoft will rescind on that agreement. So that's why Sony needs to talk with regulators and demand that it be put in contract that Call of Duty must remain multiplatform for eternity

Sony has 21.5 billion in cash on hand..... and can borrow the same amount again or more if they want...
What??? How did their cash on hand drop that much? Last I checked Sony's cash on hand was 50billion. Theres no way that's accurate, because Sony has 30billion cash in a trust which they just took 15billion out from to up their aquistions budget to 30billion. This has to be a error or something to do with a change in accounting

Also, and this gets over looked, Sony has way more assets than microsoft and assets worth way more than any assets microsoft has. Sony can liquidate their assets, stocks etc. Sony can come up with 100billion+ if they wanted to

xbox console warriors are still stuck in 2005 and they have no idea how the real world actually works lol. Just look at T2. Their estimated worth is 18billion and they acquired a company for 12billiin. If Sony wanted to they could've easily been the 1s buying Activision for 70billion. Disney bought Fox when Fox was worth way more than any cash Disney had. All though Disney took out loans and they are still in a ton of bad debt from that purchase lol

Wrong.

After the Bungie acquisition Sony had almost $7B of investments and acquisiion budget remaining for this FY but at the start of the current fiscal year increased it to $30.6B.

This budget is for the whole Sony and not only for acquisitions, but also to repurchase Sony stocks, and to make investments like the ones they did on Epic, Devolver or Discord. Until now, almost half of the budget they created until now it was spent on gaming, meaning that if they continue using the same % for gaming this fiscal year they may spend $12-15B in gaming related investments and acquisitions.

This budget isn't the only money they can use for it, it's the one they saved for it. In addition to this budget they also have a lot of cash more (way beyond $5B), plus Sony has a relative low amount of debt and access to backs to get all the debt they could want from thier own and their investor's banks.

If Sony and the other part wants they have more than enough money to buy tomorrow and pay in cash 100% of Bandai Namco, Square Enix, Capcom, Konami, Sega, Kadokawa, Kojipro, Ubisoft, CD Project, Deviation, Firewalk, Emberlabs etc. The only ones that would be too expensive would be Tencent, Take 2 or EA and in any case nobody wants them to be bought.

Minecraft, Bethesda or Activision Blizzard games will continue being multiplatform (at least most of them, in a few cases after timed console exclusivity) because MS bought them for the money they generate and like half of that comes from PS.

All MS made and said goes in this direction with the only exception of announcing Starfield as console exclusive. And we'll see some time after launch if it's a full exclusive or -as the Xbox Chief of Finantials Operations said- their plans for Bethesda are multiplatform and some timed console exclusive.

They don't do it for being nice, they publish games on PS and Switch because of money, they are running a business and want that revenue to reduce the insane loses created by their money sink 'day one on PC and Gamepass' strategy.

Yeah, that's exactly what I said. And I gave the reasons why

However only Mimecraft, Call of Duty, Diablo, will remain multiplatform...and that's only because microsoft HAD to, in order to close out deals or appease regulators

It has nothing to do with this non sense about microsoft wanting to publish on other platforms for revenue

microsoft has no problem losing money to gain ground else where. Look at the money sink rentalpass is yet they continue on with it losing heaps quarter after quarter

microsoft doesn't care lol.

Your mistake is in thinking microsoft with their KNOWN scummy anticompetitive history and many antitrust convictions care 1 bit. To apply "logic" to a serpent company like microsoft is a fools errand. Just like logic doesn't apply to the psychopath. They will do what ever takes to reach their end goal, and their end goal isn't some more revenue. You heard it from Phil himself before regulators forced Call of Duty to go multilllatform, "only platforms with gamepass." They still really want that all digital, rent and never own anything DRM future where they control everything. Truly a disgusting nightmare. Some people really need to wake up to reality and what true intentions are hiding beneath the surface. Sony has woken up. Microsoft may be the serpent but mongoose kill serpents and Sony is a mongoose

This is a totally wrong and baseless false claim. Absolutely nothing leads to think any regulator ever asked them to do so specially when they already said they were going to do it before starting to talk with regulators.

And well, a regulator won't and can't force someone like MS that doesn't have any monopoly in that market and in fact is not even close of being a market leader in gaming or in any gaming area.

MS bought ABK because want the CoD, Blizzard and King money plus their new and old catalog games for GP. And MS said that they'll continue releasing CoD and the other big Activision Blizzard games on PS like with Minecraft. Which in terms of business makes sense because to make CoD console exclusive would mean to lose like over half of the money that CoD does (outside mobile), which would add to the revenue they'll lose on Xbox and PC sales by including future (seems we'll have to wait a few years to see it due to ongoing deals with Sony) CoDs on GP day one.

Considering MS' history, that's something I've thought of too.

That's some bullshit, MS didn't have to do anything. You think they were forced to keep publishing Minecraft on other platforms?

Your mistake is thinking Microsoft cares about Xbox.

I really hope they pull CoD out of PlayStation, it would kill the viability of the IP instantly, I would love to see it. Remember when MS tried to pulled Tomb Raider from PlayStation and pretty much killed the viability of the rebooted IP? Pulling CoD from PlayStation would be like that but much worse. Do it for CoD, do it for everything that was bought, take it all down.

This is exactly what would happen to the detriment of xbox fanboys delight. If Call of Duty ever went exclusive, it wouldn’t bring a rush of playstation owners to the platform, maybe a small percentage would go buy a series s, but it would just create a vacuum for another big FPS game to dominate.

It might happen anyway without Sony marketing and them taking it off yearly release schedules
