Fiscal Year that ends in 2026??? That can't be right. Why would they mention a fiscal year that's basically 4 years away? Of course, what Sony says and what they do could easily be two very different things.
Yes, it's right, they shown the fiscal year that ends in March 2026 plus the current one to explain their future plans and evolution. They did in the context of when they were explaining the results of the previous fiscal year.

I assume they didn't show the one that ends in 2027 maybe because they plan to release PS7 in that FY so will be very different than a normal year.

Corporate psycho says "buying something isn't really buying something" fanboy psychos defend blatant lies, news at 11.

lol, but to be fair...Sony doing this is no different then when they had SOE. If their goal with some of those GAAS titles is to have them on PS and PC and buying Bungie they want to maintain what they started with that massive install base, it means they likely really are ok with them having those titles on many platforms. The goal is to have a deep install base for GAAS, so I think it makes sense to believe what they are saying regarding this as they literally said those titles are coming day and date and I see nothing here to suggest they are lying.

Why allow them to self publish?

So I think regarding that, it makes sense when you get that they need a huge install base. I'm not trying to say that all studios they buy will be this, but when it comes to GAAS, i get why they would.

I think the idea of having 2 publisher labels is to differentiate the Bungie games (available day one in all platforms) from the PS Studios games (available day one only in PS other than a handful exceptions like MLB and maybe some GaaS).

No Hermen, you're not taking anything away from anyone but everyone is taking stuff away from you.... and as the steward of a platform that in my eyes is complete and utter failure.

If somebody buy SE, Capcom, Namco Bandai, Fromsoft or Rockstar that isn't Sony. Then Sony are fucked hardcore, and i won't even feel bad for them.

Yes, sony should just buy every 3rd party publisher asap or else

  1. Those companies might not want to be purchased.
  2. Sony is not going to spend 70B to acquire all of those companies.
  3. Regulators would laugh at Sony.

People act as if major acquisitions are like

It's almost certainly a time limited agreement that's part of the talent retention contract for the higher ups.

You allow "them" to self publish because if you didn't, then "them" would leave the company after you bought it.. and now what did you buy? A brand and some IP.

Just my theory at least.

No, they want Bungie be their Bungie. Bungie will continue doing pretty much what they already were doing before, in the same way Insomniac and the other studios they acquired also continued doing the same they already did before.

If something they'll help them to continue growing and make the movies they want to do, and to share knowledge with the other Sony gamedev studios as the other gamedev teams do. That's all.

Its the sharing of valuable tech and information. Bungie have a lot of experience that sony need, if Bungie gets one of their other service games out the door without major hang ups the acquisition will have already paid for itself.

Its why they invested in Haven, for their cloud development capabilities. Sonys studios are what they are because they share information and resources amongst each other.

This is why i feel like the next big purchase by sony won’t be a publisher it will be a studio like CDPR (although technically a publisher) or Rebel Wolvess. They are gonna want a team that is skilled with PC and Console.

CDPR (or the spin off developers) all are well versed in PC, Mobile, and Console gaming. On top of managing an online pc store front. It would create a lot less friction for sony to pick up that studio

I actually think Rebel Wolves would be a better get right now.

Pretty sure Rebel Wolves is the studio that's working on one of the Witcher projects for CDPR as they said the studio was made up of ex-CDPR developers who worked on Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077.

Rebel Wolves already confirmed they are working on a New IP.

Rebel Wolves is started by the ex-witcher director, its a new studio working on a new IP. I think its more of a CRPG rather than a witcher inspired thing

How is that counter to what I said?

Newly built studio from the ground up, 77 devs…doing concept art, asset creation, motion capture and more. They did this during the pandemic too. Working on multiple titles from other playstation studios and 3rd party devs right now.

This is how sony will inevitably get games out faster without buying a bunch of publishers/devs
