PS5 was aligned with PS4 the first year or 2 I believe. Then fell behind because of stock shortage. Only in the U.S. and Japan is the PS5 ahead of PS4.

Sony need to drop the price and announced first party exclusive games for PS5. They need to get some excitement going around the brand.
Not to mention announcing PC ports in your own showcases negatively effect brands hype/aura & perception with consumers both hardcore & casuals. It might be a small notice in the present but long term is when you really see effects if we look at what happen with Xbox. Negative effects only showed when it was a new gen & some years after the new gen & all the hardcore bought the Xbox console in the first 2-3 years.

Price cut doesn't matter in this context when PS5 MSRP is 200-250$ more than a Switch
PS5 delivers way more games and it's a high end device, so its price is still low compared to a device like the Switch even at $499/$449

Also severely reduced the production of the videogame consoles for a number of years.
then you should mention supply constraints and not global pandemic, cause global pandemic boosted PS MAU numbers and PS Plus subscription numbers significantly, so much so that today Sony doesn't even share PS Plus numbers anymore because of the loss in subscribers after the end of the pandemic.

5 million behind Nintendo Switch in the same timeframe
Could be surpassing that if PS remove the option or ability of a consumer to say “I don’t really need a PS console to play PS game when I can play them on a PC or Steamdeck that cost the same price as a PS5”

Ofc would help & actually having a better first party output which currently is god awful outside PS releasing 1 singleplayer game from there own ip or new ip.

After the success of the portal PS needs to make a portal native call it “PS5 GO” sell it for $400 use the same model as the portal & they can make a “PS5 GO mini” sell it for $300 that is significantly smaller with a smaller screen (half the size of portal) to target japanese/Asia market like Korea, China & India. This way you can sell native handhelds version of PS5 & still tick it as a PS5 sold while also significantly reducing price by changing models to a handheld. Extent the PS5 generation from 2027 to 2029/2030 to ensure PS studios don’t have a dry spell aswell as bolster your studio through acquisition.

PS could release a native portal in 2026 to completely overshadow Xbox handheld if they even release one. & they could have a handheld that plays GT6 because of not Xbox could be the only handheld to play GTA6 natively “on the go” also a “PS5 GO” would be great if Nintendo doesn’t have AAA 3rd party day one PS5 GO could be a great alternative for it while also branching PS console to mobile.

Sony is putting themselfs in a though spot with PC ports because we're seeing the first generation of consoles in history to not have price cuts, if the PS6 releases at $600 and doesn't drop the price like the PS5 during its generation, consumers might feel more inclined to go to PC where they have more flexibility, the results of cannibalization due to PC are not instant, they can take years, we're seeing the situation with Xbox today, they can't even migrate people from Xbox One to Xbox Series S/X, many jumped ship to go to PC because of the support MS gives and their games running better there.

5 million? Switch sold over 7 million consoles in Q1?
I feel like Switch was slow & really pick up hype in 2019/2020 during pandemic since it was cheap & people had extra income it was a easy pickup for both hardcore & family’s to keep them busy lockdown.

if they had Only On PlayStation as a thing today, PS5 would already have surpassed PS4, no one would even consider not purchasing their product because they know only in that box you can play games like God Of War Ragnarok or Spiderman 2

Yeah. And now we get PC port beggars and people that say they will just wait for a PC version of Sony games.

Only US then cause in Japan they were scalped out of the country.

That’s a Nintendo fanboy myth started in the trashera sales thread.

I guess that makes more sense lol And PS5 is like 2 million behind PS4? Will be interesting to see if they can close that gap. They need to ramp up their software lineup.
Software lineup been abysmal. We’ve essentially went 2.5 years almost 3 years since we had a decent lineup with a minimum of 2 singleplayer games from a PS own ip or new ip. 2022 w GOW, Horizon & GT7 was the last meaningful year for PS first party wise. 2023 only had SM2 & 2024 only had Astro Bot. I fully expect 2025 to be massive Ghost of, Bend studio & Bluepoint game, GOW/Uncharted remake, Cory new Santa Monica ip, Death Stranding I fully expect for 2025 with Fairgames, Horizon online, Marathon & maybe 1 other live service game maybe something from Neon Koi which is a mobile studio which means it should take less time to make a game. They can really be making anything from that mobile studio. A inFAMOUS genshin style gacha or a GOW/Demon Souls/Bloodborne Diablo style top down/rpg/looter. It can be heavily multiplayer centric or multiplayer centric w decent singleplayer option it really depends. Idk for Neon Koi is probably the most interesting because of what they can do & what it could mean for PS. PS having a big mobile game would be interesting to see people react. Bungie moba can be big on mobile giving how bad some mobas are on mobile yet there’s massive downloads/esports

Agree. I could see ports being an even bigger problem when Valve announces the Steamdeck 2 & it can play PS5 games at 40-60 fps at 1080-1400 which is essentially what a PS5 is doing. Not to mention I fully expect the PS6 to be less meaningful in power as a ceiling has already been hit. I fully expect the PS6 to be a hybrid handheld like Switch that can either be played mobile or docked on a tv. There’s no reason for PS to continue solely traditional console when the Switch model can due both + going for power is more dangerous with you no longer having exclusive because PC by annual upgrade PS consoles will never be able to keep up w PC stats.

At the end exclusive matter true exclusive matter even more which is why Nintendo will be save for the foreseeable future even if there hardware power is lesser then all other hardware they have true permanent exclusive games that can’t be play anywhere else so there’s no other option or ability for a consumer to pass Nintendo consoles to play the games.

Tenpole singleplayer is extremely risky for low profits/growth long term. It’s a 50/50 just to make 30% on a direct competitors platform that like with the HD2 fiasco at any moment can’t just pull your shit off just to look like the good guys. Not to mention that Apple been interesting in gaming. It’s no coincidence that you can play AAA games using a iPhone I wouldn’t be surprised if Apple made a handheld like device that allow to play all mobile games at super high setting while also playing 3rd party console/pc games. That’s just the next evolution for Apple in the gaming space aswell as gaining ip & making a studio/publisher acquisition in the gaming space.

Not to mention but if the next Xbox is windows base & more open how exactly does Sony stop PS games on Steam/Epic to not be played on Xbox. Valve would have final say since it’s there storefront & they’ll likely tell Sony “umm what are you gonna do if we don’t? Pull your games off Steam we literally don’t care” see Valve/Steam doesn’t need PS in this case. Not exactly sure what PS thought of releasing singleplayer tenpole on a direct competitor platform/storefront it just makes Steam that more default as the gaming storefront & platform to have when playing video games. Valve didn’t even port Half life VR or even make a deal to get it ported which shows how Valve rolls. Valve at this point is more like Nintendo then PS used to be like Nintendo which is crazy when you consider Valve was a small 3rd party studio who used to release console games. Gabe found out that making your storefront the go to further bolster Valve games, Valves future hardware, Valve future subscription & Valve/Steam 3rd party support. At one point many 3rd party skipped Steam then they folded & now almost every 3rd party releases on Steam by default. Gabe understands to never diminish the storefront/platform because leaving it alone allows Valve to see endless & almost free profit & growth by doing literally the bare minimum. The next strap for Valve is to start producing games again which seems to be happening with the hero shooter there working & the half life 3 rumors making a TF3 & Left 4 Dead 3 seems logical & would massively bolster the steam storefront & now Steamdeck platform since it would be exclusive to Steam.

It's a very logical explanation and till someone can come up with a better theory that's what I'll believe.

Consoles are scalped outside countries all the time. Not to the level people were saying that would make up the majority of PS5 sales in Japan.

Nintendo fans were just upset PS5 was outselling Switch.

We're discussing hardware sales. Everyone knows how the pandemic negatively affected the production of consoles for a number of years in comparison to PS4.

2.4m in a quarter is horrible 🤣 It’s sad that Astro Bot is left to carry PlayStation this year. Especially when it has to also make up for the terrible press from Flopcord. No one will care about a PS5 Pro when all the games are on PC and still run better.

Ps5 needs a big price cut and a good showcase, but sadly modern Sony wouldn’t know what a good showcase was if it hit them in the face. These retards will probably just show Fairgame$ cgi and more pc port trailers 🤣
