Again, comparing no new releases to releasing PC ports. Stop with the misinformation to push your agenda.
Yep, only shows the level of ball-licking some of these ChatGPT accounts have reached.

Yet their PC sales must be abysmally low, as they only updated the Helldivers 2 ones, yet recently released ones like Forbidden West or GoT still only have their last reported PS5 numbers.

Shut up and learn to read, you flatearthers: I said "all physical game sales on PS".

Which includes both the ones released this quarter and the ones released before, both 3rd party and 1st party. Which is obvious because Sony never reported separatedly the physical game sales of first party or exclusive games.

ALL PS games.

As can be seen here SIE made 20,639M yen ($140,4M) with the PS physical game sales this quarter and 33,103M yen ($225.2M, which is 200.95% of what they did there the previous year).

In case you don't know it, "other software" is the revenue made by SIE games outside PS (mostly in PC). The other three 'game software' are the sales for all -not only 1st party- PS games.

Comparison with PS4

Interesting. Only 1.8M behind despite the shortages due to the lack of components, and with a price increase instead of the price cuts PS4 had at this point, and with Nintendo having Switch instead of WiiU.

would've already surpassed PS4 if they didn't put their tentpole games on PC
Nah.

This has nothing to do with PC.

Price and popular games like fifa and cod being stuck on last gen is its what's slowing down current gen adoption.

GTA6 will be the first big push to current gen(assuming sony doesn't do a decent price cut before that). I can't see EA or Activision going current gen in a while though.

EA make their sports games for last gen for years going by past behaviour, and acitivision normally are a bit quicker then EA in adopting current gen only.

However with switch 2 getting cod and that being possibly on the level of a PS4, they might just port the switch 2 version to PS4(or vice versa) assuming it's easy.

- launched at 500€
- big supply shortages for almost 2 years
- price increase in all major markets except the US with no price cut in sight
- lackluster first party output for over a year

The fact that it got to 60+ million in less than 4 years is actually impressive. What other console has done this?

Just look at Xbox. Exact same circumstances and hasn't even sold half as much, even with a much cheaper SKU.

I feel like Switch was slow & really pick up hype in 2019/2020 during pandemic since it was cheap & people had extra income it was a easy pickup for both hardcore & family’s to keep them busy lockdown.

Remember the Animal Crossing craze during the pandemic, good lawd. They went through a massive boom during that time.

PS5 was aligned with PS4 the first year or 2 I believe. Then fell behind because of stock shortage. Only in the U.S. and Japan is the PS5 ahead of PS4.

Sony need to drop the price and announced first party exclusive games for PS5. They need to get some excitement going around the brand.

Yeah price cuts is a bit of a hard one given the world economies right now but it feels like an inevitability at this point. But they need to drum up excitement soon

2.4m in a quarter is horrible 🤣 It’s sad that Astro Bot is left to carry PlayStation this year. Especially when it has to also make up for the terrible press from Flopcord. No one will care about a PS5 Pro when all the games are on PC and still run better.

Ps5 needs a big price cut and a good showcase, but sadly modern Sony wouldn’t know what a good showcase was if it hit them in the face. These retards will probably just show Fairgame$ cgi and more pc port trailers 🤣
This clown has become unbearable. It’s got to be trolling at this point. It’s crazy that he’s still around after Box and Nhomnhom got banned. I wonder how many people have him on ignore.

Yes, they had the combo of Switch sales peak year + covid bump + huge AC sales at the same time and did great numbers.

Thanks for the article; it is very concise. While the low console sales are a bit alarming, profit is up, meaning games are being played and bought.

PS5 needs a price cut urgently.
Why don’t they cut the price? Is it because of how the world economy currently is? Or is it because they’re trying to maximize profits?

You don’t like facts? Too bad 🤡 don’t shoot the messenger.

This is sad cope, $500 is nothing in 2024, Xbox is doing worse than ever, Switch is on its way out, and they still sold 1m less than ps4 did in the same quarter. Objectively abysmal results….60m is not impressive, ps5 would easily be over 80m if they had competent management like me.

Thanks, very interesting charts. A suggestion for another one: PSN MAU.

Fun fact, until now PS5 is almost at the 61.91M that NES sold (Nintendo source).

It's crazy to see supposed Sony "fans" trying to shitpost with dooming fud with these numbers.

Because smaller nodes at TSMC are expensive. Sony’s former interim CEO said that earlier this year.

PS5 delivers way more games and it's a high end device, so its price is still low compared to a device like the Switch even at $499/$449

3rd party yes, 1st party NO. Not at all! And 1st party games are main selling point for Switch through its generation

Well, the hardware sales slowly decreasing YoY is normal past the peak year of a console's sales cycle curve: during its first year the sales of a console keep growing until they reach their peak (traditionally located somewhere between 2nd and 4th, sometimes 5h year).

After the peak the console's yearly sales keep decreasing. For that reason it's important to compare hardware sales launch aligned.

Crazy. Hopefully they cut the price when they announce PS5 Pro. Because $500 for PS5 in 2024 is ridiculous.
