Amazing that this lawsuit even got this far. Should be an easy win for Sony.
1. They don't set prices
2. Their royalty rates are industry standard
3. The "markup" for digital when excluding retail costs goes to the game publisher/devs who set the prices. Sony's royalty remains the same. They could lower prices but don't
4. Sony's justification for royalties (not that they need it) is because consoles are loss leaders

If any storefront should be under the microscope for this practice it is Steam as they are not offsetting any hardware costs with royalties and have no reason to be in line with consoles

Any ruling against them is essentially a ruling against the existence of commision. You can say goodbye to consoles and Steam if this happens

Exactly, the fact the CAT approved this to go to trial shows how incompetent they are

Peterovo just wrote a tweet about it

"The class action lawsuit against PlayStation is proceeding in the UK and Non UK residents can also opt in.

Sony could be forced to pay PlayStation players $7.9 billion for their crimes.

The CMA is supporting the lawsuit."

All us playstation players could be getting $7.9 billion each šŸ¾šŸ„³ , also 'for their crimes' lol didn't know he was a judge & jury
We may get another ps store purchase credit in 10 years. By that time $7.9Billion will be like $70 today.

Honestly Iā€™m more concerned about this than any of the layoff stuff. Sony downsizing their gaas ambitions isnā€™t nearly as bad as an 8 billion dollar fine. It might kill the brand.

Lawyers and the industry are so fucking dumb, I'm worried they might succeed if Sony is not able to explain why they need to get a cut when you buy something on their platform. It sounds evident but nothing makes sense anymore.

Powerful forces wants Playstation to disappear.

This isn't going anywhere. By their logic, every single storefront, including physical store chains, would need to completely change their business strategies.

It's just a ridiculous lawsuit that even xbox shills are making fun of.

These legal firms just cock up ridiculous class action lawsuits in order to hopefully get a settlement. The irony is that the actual class get a couple pennies while the lawyers pocket millions

Strange how they don't mind the concept of commission there

Sony's lawyer would only have to ask one question to win this easily:

"Did any person employed by or in the name of Sony force you to buy from the PlayStation Store?"

Pretty much. It's not food or water. It's a luxury item.

Can I sue Ferrari because their stuff's expensive and I want one? Surely I can, by their logic.
