Yep, biggest leak in the history of gaming, PSN revenue and downloads data for SIE-published games from November 11, 2006 to June 11, 2023. Over 16 years.
From the Game Archives re-release of JP-only PS1 game, Crime Crackers 2, to the latest blockbuster release, God of War Ragnarök. Everything is here.

Not sure what you want to say...
That is exactly the data found in the Insomniac docs leaked by hackers.

He posted the whole Excel data for digital published games by Sony... Insomniac had a file just with these data.

What i want you to do is instead of talking about it so much be helpful and point me to the thread so i can merge it or add to it because i do not see it!

Only thread i see is this one and i see images have been removed and the op i just created has wayyyy more data.

Some if this data is obviously from some insomniac leak data but not all of it. Its a compilation of different sources. And a thorough one at tht.

I think there are many interesting things there to note regarding future >300M budgets. This is only PSN, but:
  • Over $300M: 1 game (Spider-Man)
  • $200M-300M range: 5 games (GoWR, TLOU2, Morales, GoW 2018, GoT)
  • $100M-200M range: 6 games (HZD, HFW, GT7, TLOU Remastered, GT Sport, Days Gone)
So the IPs with games that generated over $100M in PSN are only:
  1. Spider-Man
  2. GoW
  3. TLOU
  4. GoT
  5. Horizon
  6. GT
  7. Days Gone
Uncharted (2016) and Bloodborne (2015) aren't there, but are pretty close (over $80M), the thing is these games were released early in the PS4 generation, when digital sales weren't as popular as now. But HFW (2017), GTS (2017) are in the >100M range while being almost as old. And TLOU PS4 (2014) is there, being very old.

Some crazy takes:
  • GoT generated more in PSN than any game from Uncharted, Horizon, GT. The game did $215.8M and GoT DC did $66.66M. Combining both would put it in the top 2.
  • Gran Turismo Sport and Days Gone generated around $100M, are top 12 and top 13. Only with PSN. And were supposed to be a "failure" according to some.
  • Sames goes with other supposed "failures", there's crow for everyone: TLOU2 top 3 in 3 years, HFW almost generated more than in PSN than HZD in only slightly more than a year. Detroit top 18. Ratchet top 20. Demon's Souls remake top 25, Returnal are top 32. MLB has 5 games in the top 16-top 27 range.
  • Seeing the DG performance, I'd bet the next Bend game after the new IP will be Days Gone 2. If I was Sony I'd start growing a 2nd Bend team to work on it at the same time they also do the new IP. And if the Bend studio manager doesn't want to make it I'd invite him to leave the company.
  • Sales of VR games, Vita or Japan Studio on PSN were small.
  • Most PS1/PSP/PS2 classics didn't even sell 10K units each

Several games did over $100m in net revenue... the games you listed did more than $300m.
It just that digital is really the small part of the revenue.

Gran Turismo Sport and Days Gone generated around $100M, are top 12 and top 13. Only with PSN. And were supposed to be a "failure" according to some.
GT Sport is one of the best selling GT games ever... Sony, PD and Kaz always commemorated it.
I don't know where the failure come.

Days Gone issue was the studio management... it was really fucked internally.
Probably the costs where way over typical Sony new IP.

It's the first time this has been shared on gaming forums. Previously shared data were other (older) documents.
This come from the same leak... all docs where shared... old and new.
It is like 1.7GB of docs and assets.

That is my point... it is not something new and it doesn't have new data (it is not a compilation at all)... it is the raw doc that the guy took screenshots.

We got revenue figures including physical at the end of Feb 2022:

Screenshot_2024-02-21_at_00.19.10.png

Lifetime it shojuld be:
  • Horizon FW : $600M+
  • GT7 : $450M+
  • Ghost : $650M+
  • TLOU II : $650M+
  • GOWR : $1B+
  • SM2 : $1B+
  • RC RA: $250M+
$300M was only for Insomniac which is a california studio and for Sony's biggest IP. Its by no means a norm.
TLOU II and HFW were $200M and Ghost was as little as $60M.

This.

The net revenue can support most first-party IPs with $200m budget.
Seems like the first-party IPs developed by third-party studios that are the ones that have to be up to $100m costs (Bloodborne, Death Stranding, etc).

To be fair big franchises like Spider-man, GoW, Uncharted, TLOU, GT, Horizon, etc can even reach $300-400m costs and still being profitable.
But of course the ideia is to decrease the development costs... not increase them :D

1st party PSN sales and downloads of Vita titles (but several of them got also released in PS4 via port/remaster/remake). Credit to Stephano from Resetera:

They didn't set the world on fire. But I still would try to save via remaster/collection/emulation/whatever Killzone Mercenary, Uncharted Golden Abyss, Soul Sacrifice, Unit 13, Superstardust Delta, Resistance Burning Skies

I remember we got numbers from February 2022, but this image isn't from there. Sony wouldn't post super round numbers everywhere and wouldn't leave most of the fields empty.

This other image is the Sony one with the February 2022 data:

Its my table I made from the leaked data, putting it all in one place.
The estimate is mine not Sony's.

Its been a money making series for so long. Its best selling sim racer by far on any console and its not close.
GT7 is fun. I like that they add more cars and more events through this release to keep the game fresh. I don't need GT8 anytime soon, that is for sure. I would be willing to pay for more tracks though for GT7. Not sure if they are done with tracks as DLC or not.

If you're talking about game budgets, that $60M figure for GoT isn't possible as can be seen compared to the other similar big AAA 1st party games released around these years (TLOU2, HFW, GoWR..) games.

If Sony/Sucker Punch ever mentioned $60M (I don''t remember it), it would be only the cost of their lead dev studio. But the whole game budget should be somewhere in the $150-$230M range like the other ones, because around 1700 people worked on it and took 6 years to be made.

Regarding Insomniac budgets supposedly being more expensive because they are in California, that isn't the case. First, Insomniac has two studios: one in Burbank, California, but the other one in Durham, North Carolina. Second, other studios like ND or SSM are from California too. Third, the top tier AAA studios have pretty similar cost per worker in most countries. In fact, many offices in several European countries are more expensive because of way higher taxes.

And more importantly, the lead gamedev studio normally is around 10% of the manpower who works in a big AAA. The rest are spread around the world. Most of them being from support studios, many of them located in cheap countries.

Games were actually being made on the cheap as I expected. So much of the narrative circulating was just pure bullshit. These games are all very profitable.

Sony should be doubling down on high quality devs because high quality games still sell very well.

TLoU Pt 2 and Rift Apart haters, take another massive L.

I wish they could get their hands on the F1 license and use GT7 as a basis for an F1 game. If not F1 than something else like Indy.

GT7 is high quality and classy, a truly great game that benefits greatly from the haptics and adaptive trigger (I play mostly on the wheel now but it is still great on the gamepad).
