Maybe if ubisoft actually made good games, people would want to buy them.

This consolidation in the industry is weird. I know indies are pushing things a lot better than the big companies, but are we going to see 'too big to fail' game companies?

I don't want Sony to buy that big mess but they should buy some shares like they did with Epic and From Software.

I don't know if that would help them? At least Sony would still get their games on PS.

Tencent obviously are already there so just buy more shares.

Who said this, that Sony would buy them? Lol not in 100 years. Ubisoft has approximately 20.000 employees! The whole company is a mess. I am staying with if Sony acquiring a publisher it will be one which is based in Japan. I wouldn’t also believe everything Grubb says. I am done with Jeff Fraud Grubb.

There are much better choices than Ubisoft, especially for Sony.

I need the ABK deal to wrap up as fast as possible so Microsoft can save Ubisoft for me since it appears that no one else is interested.
I think ubisoft makes more sense for xbox than actiblizz does anyway

It does for me personally but business wise, ABK is the far better purchase.
Yeah because it's actually profitable. But microsoft doesn't have a profitability problem, it has a content problem. If the ABK acquisition is about justifying microsoft gaming to shareholders, then fair enough...but it won't really justify xbox to console gamers.

The ABK deal isn't just for Xbox console gamers. It's first and foremost for King because Microsoft has been trying to get into mobile gaming for years and this is how they will achieve that. Second, having Blizzard will be huge as they already have a new IP in development and once they clear out all the remaining shit within, Blizzard has a chance to get back to what they once were and on the Activision side, Infinity Ward I believe has a new IP or something like that in development, there appears to be a new Spyro game in development, there's that Crash game coming and who knows what else. And that's all not including Call of Duty.

So content wise, ABK be the same as Ubisoft because they don't know what they're doing. They're trying to break into free to play market and they haven't even come close and I doubt that they ever will. They have AC Mirage later this year but everything else seems to be further out. All the main line AC games are years away, a new Ghost Recon is probably two years away and Splinter Cell remake is definitely a few years away. Massive's Avatar could be huge as could be their Star Wars game but I don't see Avatar releasing until 2024 and 2026 for Star Wars.

Overall, it's equal but Ubisoft doesn't have a clue. Free to play, mobile garbage while wasting years and years on Beyond Good and Evil 2 and Skull & Bones in addition to not having anything major since Far Cry 6 unless you count Sparks of Hope.

People always want Sony's games to sell so they reinvest into PlayStation and I agree with that but Microsoft's approach is different yet similar. They will get the money via King, Blizzard and other aspects of their gaming division which will make them put more money into their first party games due to the fact that they must be at least good in order to keep growing Game Pass. As for Ubisoft, they're my favorite publisher and developer but they've fallen off the last few years outside of Immortals and Division 2 which were both excellent. Valhalla, WD Legion and FC 6 were all disappointing for me. Hoping that Microsoft can get them down the line because while majority aren't happy with Microsoft acquiring publishers, they do have the capital on hand to take the time needed to fix up Ubisoft and if I had to choose between Microsoft acquiring Ubisoft or Ubisoft going bankrupt or scaling down dramatically, then obviously im going with Microsoft.

Hopefully, Ubisoft is having their EA moment from a few years ago and can get back on track but I wouldn't be shocked if they don't.

Jeff Grubb is perpetually full of shit, but it doesn't surprise me that ubisoft isn't doing so hot.

Don't see Sony, MS, or nintendo buying them. Ubisoft has too many empyees and studios to wrangle.

If Ubisoft goes insolvent, then I only want Sony to get the Prince of Persia IP. Save this wonderful franchise from the dead claws of Ubisoft’s!

They have a long pattern of multi year revenue growth, having profit most of the years. They mentioned in that report their cash & equivalents, that I think was $1.5B. They also have a lot of assets to sell if desired, like a ton of big IPs and around 40 studios. They also have a giant like Tencent backing them.

They won't go insolvent at all, they'll be able to handle a bad year with a couple of flops, a few delays and some games canned. They may need to restructure a big reducing costs here and there to cut the fat, reducing their headcount a bit not replacing people who leave and maybe selling some asset. But will be ok and with the big releases of AC Mirage, Avatar, AC Red, Star Wars and maybe The Division Hearlands will be back on track.

Nah, Ubisoft said several times over years that they didn't want to sell and recently saved their ass against unwanted acquisitions with the help of Tencent. Due to covid they had some important delays, and a handful promising games underperformed, so they had to cancel some projects in early stages, delay others to make sure they release in a more polished state and will have to make some costs cuts and focus a bit more on safe projects.

But that's all, once they go back to release big games will be back to normality. They never wanted or needed to sell and I think that won't change.
