Yeah it's pretty clear they (bunch of Sony execs) did a big trip to Japan, likely the first since pre-COVID, and made it a tour of studios of sorts. Restrictions finally lifted last week. Saw tweets of various folks visiting different studios when I looked around yesterday.

I don't think Kojima will ever stop working with/having a project with Sony. He is like half 1st party Sony dev, half independent as is.

I’m not sure about buy, i can see them doing partnerships like Kojima Productions. Sony is pretty risk adverse with spending.

Sony needs more Japanese studios for PS Studios. Problem is if Sony don’t buy them and the games are successful, then possible someone snatch them away. Can’t tell you the source but it’s gonna happen like I reported you. Sony definitely needs more 1st Party Japanese studios.

Kojima Productions was so he could get away from MGS.

This are 3rd games you called. It’s not the same magic, as own produced Japanese games. The fans are calling Sony for years to create own Japanese franchises, like Nintendo did with Xenoblade Chronicles.

Mutan Insight is working on an iconic PS1 RPG (Remake). Their are ideal for reviving older franchises, like Wild Arms for example

Unseen is a new studio which is focusing on horror games in Japanese style

Bokeh former Sony developer and Siren creator


Sony definitely needs more Japanese 1st Party studios. They only have two so far (Polyphony Digital and Team Asobi) which is shameful for a Japanese Corporation. Sony has bought enough western studios, it’s time to please their Japanese fanbase.

Imo 2-3 million sales are fine for JRPGs. This would complement Sony’s portfolio. This studios will not be expensive: Small and newly founded. But with a lot of big names and creativity behind it.

I just dont seem like they would need to outright own a studio for those type of sales. PS5 is already the default platform for high budget JRPGS

I'm confused why you think I need to read your comment again? Is your source a psychic or something? That was the point of my comment.. how can a source know about things that haven't happened yet? lol

Also not sure what you mean by Unseen and how nobody talked about them. They are an indie dev, being visited by the guy in charge of indie devs at Sony. Seems like a good chance of an exclusive or something but why would that indicate a purchase is imminent?

Fair enough, I hope to see more Japanese games from Sony, but still don't understand how it's necessary, apart from places like this.
