Sony's presence on PC is unwelcome, as PC gamers have made abundantly clear. Sony needs to wake up and see the PC for what it truly is, a competitor that must be dealt with and eliminated as quickly as possible. The backlash surrounding the PS5 Pro serves as an example, with most of the criticism and misinformation coming primarily from PC gamers.

It's about time for the Sega treatment.

Yet the best selling Sony launch game EVER is Helldivers 2 with PC contributing over half of sales.

Even with just 5 million copies sold on PS5, Helldivers 2 would be more profitable for Sony due to the higher profit margins from the console ecosystem and PS+ subscriptions, mtx's. Even modest sales on PS5 can surpass the profitability of larger sales on other platforms. Is it really worth jeopardizing the entire console ecosystem for just a handful of PC sales? That’s just foolish.

This.

If anything, the MAU numbers from the last 4 years show that Sony failed to raise their PSN engagement numbers beyond the ~115 million mark. It raises a bit during Q4 thanks to Christmas but declines throughout the rest of the year.

It puts a new perspective on them insisting so much to force PSN in all their 1st party PC games, including single player titles.
Totoki and other executives must have their KPIs attached to MAU thresholds.
Yet we have people in this thread trying to convince us 2 million players increase in 4 years is a great achievement. They remind me of those xbox players who have been defending MS strategy last gen. If they are as lunatics soon they will start trying to convince us PC ports are actually helps to increase PS5 sales.

I think 100m PS5 consoles at end of the generation are safe to say. Greatly contribute will Monster Hunter Wilds and Grand Theft Auto VI. Those two and maybe other (not revealed games) down the line will help to achieve this milestone.

Your quoting the wrong person.

The context of my post is a quote from ps saying soon after launch that 30% of ps5 owners are new users.

You can't extrapolate those numbers to say 30% have left playstation. That is what @MrAss said.

And we don't know the current split between new and existing customers upgrading to ps5. Which is what I said in the post you quoted.
You mentioned "He said that during initial stages of the ps5, we don't know the current numbers.", so I posted the most recent "related numbers" that are somewhat related and help us see that there is a growth on their userbase, even if they aren't enough to get the specific percentage. But we can see there that their userbase grows.

Regarding the specific percentage, they don't release it publicly every quarter or fiscal year. So we don't have recent numbers, and this is what I shared the other thing, because it's the most recent related thing we have to at least see that there are new users there.

We also have older data, which even if older provides the exact percentages. We know they track it internally (Ryan didn't made out the number) because we saw it in one of the leaked Insomniac documents was from 2022 and included a 2023 forecast (part in green), and it was around 50%:
image.png

When looking at the same period during PS4 and comparing to PS5, PS4 sold considerably more than PS3, so the percentages of new users on PS4 vs PS3 was higher, specially in the long term, since as people already upgraded faster, the percentage of new users kept growing.

image.png

PS5 is selling almost at the same pace vs previous gen, not like in case of PS4 vs its previous gen (PS3), it was selling way more than PS3. Meaning there's less people upgrading and the start that will upgrade later. Also means that since people upgrades later, the percentage of new users during a mid-gen year in PS5 is smaller than in PS4.

But still, in 2022 the percentage of PS5 new users were around 50% and looking at their 2023 forecast and the PS4 case, pretty likely may have continued, and I'd bet also during 2024 even if we don't have Sony numbers or forecast.

I have a hypothetical question for you @mibu no ookami . Let's say Sony acknowledges their PC venture as a failure and retracts everything they have done for the past 4 years. Are you going to acknowledge how wrong you were as well?

I'm always open to saying that I'm wrong.

The difference between me and these trolls are that my conclusions are based on real metrics and data. If the data and metrics show me being wrong, I'd be the first person to say I'm wrong.

Sony is requiring PSN logins on their PC games, specifically so they can track the movement of consumers between PC and PS.

They would know before anyone else if there was some correlation between players leaving their platform and their PC ports.

Also, it's possible that separately of migration, Sony could decide its not worth it to port specific titles to PC, but given the real cost to port games to PC, I doubt this will happen.

If a PC port cost you 5 million dollars (which would seem pretty extreme), at 60 dollars. You only need to sell 100,000 units to recover that cost once you account for the Steam royalty cut.

Must have missed your post saying you were wrong when you said PlayStation's first-party was "almost non-existent" before PS3.

Name me the top 20 most successful PlayStation first party games before PS3.

Outside of Gran Turismo and God of War, they didn't have much going for them.

How about you tell me the top 20 most successful PlayStation first party games after PS3?

Obviously without Gran Turismo and God of War.

They will hit 100m but thats still 17 million less than PS4 in a even less competitive market.

You are definitely correct when it comes to commercial success. Sony's first party became top quality and commercial succes starting from mid to end PS3 days till now. however, they had high quality ( though not all commercial success) titles during PS1, PS2 era such as Dark Clouds, ICO, SoTC, GOW, Jak, Crash, Spyro, Twisted Metal, and Ratchet.

Dark Cloud was developed by Level-5. The first Jak and Daxter was made by Naughty Dog before Sony owned them. Crash and Spyro was the same, they didn't own Naughty Dog or Insomniac at the time. In fact they didn't even own the IP. See Jak re: Ratchet.

So that leaves Ico, SOTC, GOW, and Twisted Metal.

We all know what happened to Team ICO/GenDesign... who has done fuck all since TLG. And as for Twisted Metal, we know what happened with David Jaffe.

So again, that leaves God of War and while you didn't mention it Gran Turismo.

So there aren't threads on this forum where users have been called doomers for saying PS5 will fall behind PS4 sales?

Bet your account on that.

Provide a source. It has been behind for time.

Some quotes, with users removed as to not start wars

You're assuming the deficit will grow despite the PS5 Pro and GTA6. I'd be willing to bet money that you're wrong.

You can't count an extra year of the PS4 Pro AND price cuts and discount Sony's ability to keep pace despite the PS5's higher price AND a freaking pandemic... it's not a serious argument.

This guy knows that the PS5 is only slightly behind the PS4 launch aligned, so if it were behind in Spain, it almost certainly means it's ahead in other places.

Launch aligned, PlayStation 5 is behind PlayStation 4 by 800K units which considering the fact that PlayStation 5 is $500 while PlayStation 4 Slim was at $300 plus this generation had a year shortage in hardware and components due to Covid, I would say that Sony is doing far better than you would think/expect knowing these facts. Imagine if Covid never happened and/or PS5 was at $400 or $300.

Sony and PlayStation 5 is simply on fire!!! Hyped for their showcase!!

PS5 did this FY 20.8M, which is better than the peak PS4 FY (20.0M). PS4 only had a another year better than 18M, where they did 19M.

LTD (Launch Aligned)

PS4 60.1 m
PS5 59.3 m (FY23: 20.8 m)
PS2 53.85 m

Yes, it will outsell it because launch aligned despite the shortages and having had to increase its price instead of the price cut PS4 had at this point is selling almost the same.

Sony has forecast the same number they forecast for the PS4 launch aligned, yet sold 19 million units. A forecast is a forecast. Their goal is always going to be to hit or exceed that forecast. Continue to tell me how you don't know what a forecast is.

Well, PS5 is ahead of PS4 in NA and Asia, so it's mostly in EU -at least some of its big countries- where still behind. It can be due to several reasons:

There are many, many more examples but I got tired of winning.

Do people not find it strange that in the same week any bad or weak/mid news comes out about a platform there is instant push back from the other side with a
"no you"
"there all the same"
"bla bla will follow"
"XBOX is doomed!"
"Its ok because Sony will follow!"
"Just get a PC!"

Every single time, I understand people have there opinions yet insulting each other is not the correct way of thinking and also anyone acting like they KNOW what is or will happen, can not know the truth of what any of the companies are thinking or doing, unless you are in the boardroom making the decisions.
Can you guess? Have a Opinion? Yes. But that's just it, So talk to each other with at least some respect and if you do not agree its simple put them on ignore.

Also unless you can prove something one way or another don't try to come at someone else if you can not back up the claims
Sony is lying? Ok prove it.
Xbox is lying? Ok prove it.
Nintendo is lying? Ok prove it.
Same with any companies you think you are right about.

I expected a more balanced approach from you, as you're usually a fair mod. Unless your message has been lost in translation. I can see what you want to achieve in that people shouldn't argue over that which cannot be proven, but the same posters who move goalposts or call others liars can be proven wrong from past arguments with posts and threads on this forum.

No one can prove what Sony or Nintendo or Microsoft are discussing good or bad. To want proof of that is the height of ridiculousness as a requirement for discussion. Considering that gaming is entering its' sixth decade, with a history of franchises that were born from nothing, giants thats crashed and burnt to ashes and a trail of failed hardware from the 3DO, CDI and Wii U, we can take a very good guess at which direction a decision will take a company.
Sure, sometimes you get lightning in a bottle like the Wii, sometimes the sure fire winner turns out to be a flop like the Gamecube. Some franchises certain for success turn to dogshit like Cyberpunk and others that look like shite become fan favourites like Nier.

TL;DR - basing an opinion on what has happened several times in the past is a better starting point that saying "against all odds, X thing is going to happen and everyone who disagrees is wrong or a shill", should be a bannable offence.
