My transition will occur when discs are no longer an option on console. Being beholden to a single store with no competition is not something I can abide by.

It might not affect the console sales (yet) but their first-party sales took a nosedive this year. Flop after flop, the kind the industry never saw before. Sony is on another level in the flopping category.

They couldn't even sell 2 millions in over 2 months of a 94 meta GOTY frontrunner. This is just sad. They will never hit the highs of the PS4 era.
Concord flop
Lego horizon flop
Until dawn remake flop
Horzion zero dawn remake flop
Horzion forbidden west pc port flop
GOW ragnarok pc port flop
Sackboy pc port flop
Ratchet & clank pc port flop
Uncharted 4 pc port flop

God what else

Fairgames will likely flop & if PS pushes Horizon Monster Hunter w DEI bs I can see that flopping. Freedom wars flopping?

Firewalk studio flop
Neon Koi flop
PS London multiplayer game cancel/flop
Naughty Dog multiplayer game cancel/flop

& if we follow trend the rumors of a days gone remake, GOW 2018 flopping if there true. All this under Jim/Herman leadership

When the next 3D Mario will score a 97 people will go out and buy a Switch 2 for it because they have no choice. Astro Bot was great but it's just a timed exclusive and then when they will port it next year sales won't be good anyway. But SURELY Astro Bot 2 on PS6 and PC day and date will do better.
Your forgetting Nintendo Switch 2 hell PS might release games on Netflix through cloud & Apple

Now balance things by adding the wins they had last year too.

They knew this since 2020 when kickstarted the PC port initiative. Folks that use PS as a secondary platform would migrate to PC, which means not much value was lost. A minority of warriors would cry online and the silent majority of PS customers would keep playing on PS buying FUT cards and MTX, the real money makers for Sony.

Yes, it is 2 million behind PS4 when xbox is selling almost zero. They didn't gain market share from the death of their competitor and they lost 2 million users already.
That is a twisted way to look at it.

PS5 is ahead PS4 in all places except Europe.
And it is not just 2 million behind in Europe… it is more like 4-5 million because it needs to cover the rest being up.

And I ask you… PS5 is behind PS4 in Europe because it is dying and people migrating to PC?
Or because the economy is currently not good there with didn’t allowed any price cut in 4 years instead did even rise it?

Price point is a way more impactful reality than people choosing to move to PC.

But hey doomers will choose to believe what fit their narrative.

You would think after 4 years the effects would be visible.

Nothing.

Making Sony confident enough to tell their shareholders that it hasn’t affected PS5 sales.

Of course the naysayers will say they are lying and downplaying it.

Just like the previous shareholder meeting where they asked about the risk of PC ports……They gave a poor reasoning. They know what’s going to happen. They’re trying to make quick money elsewhere while selling PS5. That’s not going to last long.

PC is a direct competitor to PlayStation. Jim Ryan even admitted to this in court. Putting all your games on PC will make PS less of a choice to buy.

I hope shareholders keep asking this question every financial report.

I will say here.

If PS5 had any price cut (and no stock issues) like PS4 had it should be way ahead PS4 at the same timeframe and not just 2 million behind.

I wonder should be the excuse…

Well someone finally asked the correct questions.
Migration will always happen and has always happened. Both ways. Maybe a small amount.

With PS moving games to PC it just increases the chances for it going to PC and not the other way round.

But will it be a big enough effect compared to new PS and console buyers? We’ll have to see by the end of this gen and the PS6 gen.

With Xbox sales at a low, PS5 should be taking up the market more. But its not.

If the PS5 sells less than the PS4 despite Xbox losing customers, its not a good result. They should be improving from the PS4 total console sold, and taking more customers from Xbox not staying the same or lower than PS4.

Another fundamentally unsound analysis.

Xbox sales are slowing for sure, but LTD compared to the X1, they're not down by THAT much. Estimates would suggest they're down about 4.3 million units LTD. So let's actually examine the 4.3 million units.

First, you don't know what those 4.3 million consumers are doing. Are they still on Xbox One? Did some of them upgrade to Xbox One X? Have some of them moved to PC? And yes many might have bought PS5. So why aren't PS5 sales surpassing PS4 at the same rate? We've discussed this. It's the first generation in which live service has really existed at this scale from one generation to the next.

What we know is that MAUs are at highs. FY21 Q2, they were as low as 104 million. Compared to the latest quarter where they're at 116...

That 12 million user increase suggests there has been some growth. Ultimately we'll see with Q3 which tends to be where MAU spikes, but there is evidence that there are a ton of new PS5 users from "somewhere".

In a recent Q&A from a G&NS segment, Sony downplayed the risk of users switching from PS5 to PC, stating that they do not consider it a major concern.
Hermen and Nishino said the same three months ago in the previous report, the end of fiscal year one.

They are growing both their PC and PS userbases: PS5 is selling almost like PS4 launch aligned, and on top of that in the PS5 generation they have now a way bigger active userbase in the previous generation that they had at this point of the PS4 generation.

And they are not only having record PS MAU, they are getting record revenue per user in console, while also getting record numbers in game subs, accesories or revenue outside PS, resulting them in record revenue and profit for their game division.

They are more than fine and growing basically in all areas.

The evidence of this is that MAUs are still high. It tells us that these Europeans are still playing on the PS4 rather than having migrated to PC.

MAU is the best sign of health for a business like PlayStation's. As long as those MAU numbers keep ticking up, they have nothing to worry about. It means they're getting new consumers and maintaining existing ones. If the MAU numbers stay flat that means but you're selling more PS5s on pace with the PS4, that generally means that you're keeping existing consumers or at least getting enough new consumers to offset lost consumers.

I remember Jim Ryan said 1/3 of PS5 users never had a playstation console before. That means there are actually new players joining playstation. But PS5 is still tracking slightly behind PS4. That means they are gaining 30% new players and are losing 30% older players at the same time.

Yes really, the below is not how it works. He said that during initial stages of the ps5, we don't know the current numbers.

You also asume that people left, but if MUA are up means they haven't left.
It was said when ps5 has reached 32 mil sales. That means 10 mil new players. Yet the overall number is still tracking behind PS4 at the same time frame. You still think everyone will finally upgrade from PS4 to PS5 by the end of generation and PS5 will sell more consoles than PS4?
And if we just look at Xbox MAU it also record high. We know those MAU being inflated by everyone.

PS5 is a solid alternative to a gaming PC, not the other way around. You can’t really argue with the ease of use that comes with plugging a thing in and it just works. That’s something PC will never be able to replicate because it would just be a console, a console without PlayStation’s software support. It’s an Xbox at that point.
