Funny thing is the PS4 Pro existed specifically to prevent bleeding their audience towards the PC because that's what happened in the last half of the PS3 era.

But keeping their customer base from bleeding to the PC only works if the hardware is subsidized, otherwise it'll lose value to the PC pretty quickly.

Problem is Totoki can't grasp any of this. The guy only cares for the end result in his excel sheet on the short term.

Nothing good ever comes from having the Chief Financial Officer take the reins of a massive company.
It's how we got videogame studios and publishers to massively embrace DEI consultants, because their CFOs mandated they needed the cheap credit from ESG scores to decrease expenditure.

From the latest hardware survey:

RTX 4070: 2.8%
RTX 3080: 2%
RTX 4070 Super: 1.5%
RTX 4070 Ti: 1.1%
RTX 4090: 0.9%
RTX 4080: 0.7%
RTX 3080 Ti: 0.7%
RTX 4080 Super: 0.6%
RTX 4070 Ti Super: 0.5%
RTX 3090: 0.5%
RX 7900XTX: 0.4%

I count around 12% of Steam users with a GPU that matches or surpasses the PS5 Pro (and likely a vastly faster CPU, 2x more RAM, etc.).
It's probably closer to 15% because AMD cards don't get well detected, but let's just stick to 12%.

Steam has 132 monthly million active users, so every month there are around 16 million users with gaming hardware that matches or surpasses the PS5 Pro.
16 million is more than the PS4 Pro sold in its lifetime, which cost around half of what the PS5 Pro does for most of the world.

We're also in the verge of getting a new generation of graphics cards matching the PS5 Pro from Nvidia, AMD and Intel, and it's very likely their popular high-volume selling midranges will match or surpass the PS5 Pro in performance and features. So those 16 million will be many more within 2025.

Was this suppose to be a flex?

There are currently 65 million PS5 users.

How many of the 132 million monthly Steam users have a PC more powerful than a PS5?

50% of Steam gamers?

Yeah right.

Most of them playing games like Banana, Counterstrike 2, PUBG and DOTA 2 on those rigs.

Correct?

The number of people migrating to PC if exists at all is very small.
Agree.

The worst case scenario is hard core gamers migrating.

The same ones congregating on these forums and dooming.

They form a minority of Playstation gamers yet seem to think they influence the majority of gamers.
less than like 5% of steam users has a PC capable of matching or surpassing a pro, it's not a real worry

It just goes to show how little people understand business by making these statements.

A group of people have moved to a competing platform.
Said platform isn't as plug and play as consoles and requires effort.
Said group have opted to choose WEAKER and MORE DIFFICULT hardware as their platform.
>Lol this is fine just doomers.

If you don't understand why this is ringing alarm bells at Sony HQ then you're wilfully ignorant or short sighted.

Do you have some compelling evidence it's any more of a chunk of the market than it ever was?

Resident doomers know better than Sony.

What alarm bells?

They have said otherwise. Of course you won’t believe that.

Just like everything else Sony says.

It wouldn't matter either way. Gamers leaving one platform and moving to another represents a group no longer serviced. Remember when Microsoft did that? They didn't care at the time either.

If the investors are asking questions, that's alarm bells. Of course they would say otherwise.

Of course you'll take everything they say at face value and not understand anything beyond the black and white.

Sony investors: "why are we losing players to a competing platform?"

In a recent Q&A from a G&NS segment, Sony downplayed the risk of users switching from PS5 to PC, stating that they do not consider it a major concern.

The PC gaming market is a serious threat. Sony may be confident now, but the rise of PC gaming will shift the balance in the future
This is what Xbox leadership said aswell as Xbox fans & Xbox cocksuckers.

A console gamer is always gonna stick to console not realizing that the only reason the distinguishes your platform is the exclusive games on your storefront & if you don’t have any another platform/storefront will be superior making it where as a gamer & consumer the best option to play the most games & save money is PC due to the nature of Steam getting default PC exclusive & now Xbox & PC while in the PS storefront it misses many PC games, misses many console games & misses many mobile games.

Xbox console owners like Rand al there said he’d always be a console gamer & that he’d never go to PC now in his podcast he’s talking like gaming in PC isn’t bad likely because it has all Xbox games day 1, you save more money & at a better performance + you have no online subscription + a wider library of games. This same thing will happen to PS gamers rn there just to many upside to PC even if consoles like Xbox & PS at the front short term it might be cheaper in the long run PC becomes cheaper & consoles becomes more expensive.

And w Valve making there own console w Steamdeck & now building a library of both Xbox & PS games on its own storefront while being superior to both storefronts Steamdeck will replace PS just like it replace Xbox long term. And yes Steamdeck sells 5 million rn but in 10-20 years Valve/Steam could easily sell 25-50 million with Xbox consoles completely imploding & PS no longer & struggling to sell 100+ million (which if you look at how many consoles Nintendo sells PS needs to be selling 150+ million to be real competitors w Nintendo) buy I can see a future where PS struggles to sell 50-75 million if PS continues its current direction

Yes Sony are lying to the investors.

Source - your resident doomers. They know better than Sony.

Right now the PS5 is 2 million behind the PS4.

It has never had a price drop but a price increase and had shortages. The PS4 Pro was also released a year earlier than the just released PS5 Pro.

Massive alarm bells.

Huge exodus to PCs.

What you're forgetting is that Xbox is down so PS5 should be much higher than what it is now. And next year serious competition is coming.

Evidence comes from his imagination.

Here we have Sony saying PC ports have had no impact.

The Resident doomers believe Sony are lying and know better than Sony themselves.
This is a confusing thread for me to fully digest.

Though, since I'm a PC gamer, I'm sure others will help reassure me it's because my mind is too simple to understand the gravity of the situation

Someone asked Sony if PC ports are a risk to console migrations, and Sony pretty clearly said they were not. This feels like a pretty clear refute that PC ports are inherently damaging to Sony.

Great exclusives made Playstation what it's now ( 3rd party exclusives in PS1,2 era and 1st party in PS3,4 era).
The people at Sony and the sweet non doomers thinking that losing exclusives will not impact Sony negatively in the long run are ignorants.

Companies usually admit the fuck up only after they move away from it. As long as they are in the middle of it, they will claim it's all sweet.

What evidence do you have that theres a fuck up?

Revenue is at an all time high.

That’s a problem a huge one. Imagine PS loosing its hardcore PS isn’t doing anything to replace those hardcore & PS is doing nothing to cultivated & build a young audience so really PS looses the hardcore they also loose the young audience. In fact w games like Lego Horizon on PC/Steamdeck & Nintendo they are furthering Steam & Nintendo position as a storefront to younger & all audiences.

When PS loose the hardcore who will be there to hype & promote there brand? Like Xbox who has lost there hardcore & or made there hardcore not care Xbox doesn’t & hasn’t spent the time & effort to replace or build/cultivate a young audience to the Xbox brand & Xbox platform/storefront.

Also the whole minority of we take Xbox decline trend it shows that the hardcore makes roughly 25%-50% 1/4 if not will be 2/4 or higher by the moves they’ve been doing. Most of Nintendo gamers are adult but Nintendo creates games that can easily cater to a younger audience & there consumer base who are adults are likely to pass down Nintendo games/franchise to there younger generation that are already invested in the storefront & hardware. Games like Smash Ultimate, Mario Kart & Mario Party cultivated both young & adult audiences. Nintendo themselves are almost a universal brand something PS tried to strive for back in the PS1-PS3 generation but given up almost entirely

Well there you go.

If Sony says the Sky is Blue these doomers will say otherwise.

Revenue is at an all time high.

Right now the PS5 is 2 million behind the PS4.

It has never had a price drop and had shortages. The PS4 Pro was also released a year earlier than the PS5 Pro which will bump sales by a few million in its launch window.

Nothing is showing that PC ports have had an effect on PS5 console sales and overall revenue.

These guys can’t prove anything either.

This is coming from a person who disagrees with the overall PC ports initiative.

Yes, it is 2 million behind PS4 when xbox is selling almost zero. They didn't gain market share from the death of their competitor and they lost 2 million users already.

Xbox isn’t selling almost zero and Sony hasn’t lost 2 million users.

They still have more than 50 million active PS4 users who haven’t upgraded to the PS5.
