Its kinda nuts that sony can literally put out the highest rated game of the year in a genre they don’t typically excel in and its still a collective “meh, wheres the games sony” lol

Sony has only gone one year in the last 4 without putting out a 90+ rated game on mc

vocal exacs don't really help Xbox at all when their sales been in the shitter since both Xbox series X and S launched and PlayStation is still beating them with barely any Internet presence all Phil does is lie whenever he speaks
Talking about setting narratives here, nothing is about sales.

Sony literally releases the highest rated game of the year last week (Astro Bot): "PS5 has no games"

Sony partners for second highest rated game of the year (FFVII Rebirth): "PS5 has no games"

Sony publishes the former best selling game of the year (Helldivers 2): "PS5 has no games"

Current best selling game console exclusive to PS5 because of Xbox hardware limitations (Wukong): "PS5 has no games"

Literally two top rated games of the year are PS5 exclusive.

Two best selling games of the year console exlcusive.

Wtf do people want them to do?

The premise of my thoughts here are that Sony is reaching heights we haven't seen in gaming since Nintendo in the 80s, where the master system and the Atari 5200 weren't really competition for the NES. That scrutiny plus the internet is why you see so much backlash towards Sony for EVERYTHING they do. Release an unsuccessful game, people will talk about it for months if not years, rather than just moving on to the next game. Launch a premium console and people will make fools of themselves to downplay it with PC builds that have no ram, no operating system, a small storage drive, and no keyboard/mouse, or gamepad.

There was a popular refrain that Sony has no games.

This year alone Sony has released two games that will go down as two of the greatest achievements in the generation. Helldivers 2 (a possible GOTY contender) which may end up being their best-selling game of all time and Astro Bot (a near lock for GOTY) which may be one of their best designed games of all time. On top of that they published Stellar Blade, Rise of the Ronin, and will release Until Dawn and Lego Horizon Adventure.

And as a console platform holder delivered massive games that were exclusive for one reason or another in Black Myth Wukong (potentially a GOTY contender) and FF7 Rebirth (another GOTY contender)

What other company across gaming released two GOTY contenders this year?

Last year they released Spider-Man 2, which is going to be one of the best-selling games of the generation and was also a GOTY contender.

Since 2000, what company has more GOTY contenders than Sony?

2020 - TLOU2 wins GOTY, Ghost of Tsushima is nominated.
Nintendo, Square Enix and Bethesda both get 1 nomination

2021 - Sony gets another nomination with Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart (3)
EA wins, Bethesda gets another nomination Nintendo gets another nomination (2), Capcom gets nominated

2022 - Sony gets two more nominations with Horizon Forbidden West and God of War Ragnarok(5)
FromSoftware wins GOTY with Elden Ring, Nintendo gets another nomination (3)

2023 - Sony gets another nomination with Spider-Man (6)
Larian wins with Baldur's Gate, Nintendo gets two more nominations (5) and Capcom gets one more (4)

These don't even include other award winning games like Returnal (Best Action game 2021) and Gran Turismo 7 (Best Sport/Racing Game 2022) or Demon's Souls.

What gaming company is putting out more and better games than Sony? What company is as consistent?

Sony puts out a game like Astro Bot and it doesn't count because it doesn't have hyper realistic graphics? So why do all these Nintendo games count every year?

I would love to see what other company is killing it year in and year out. Companies like CDPR, FromSoftware, Larian, get away with putting out major games every 5+ years (excluding DLC, which wouldn't count for Sony). What did Larian do before BG3? Divinity 2, a game that if Sony had released people wouldn't care about.

CDPR hasn't released a new game (DLC again doesn't count) since December 2020... why no hate threads for them, but Naughty Dog who only released a game a few months before gets constant hate, but have at least put out some remasters and remakes, as well as free content for TLOU.

The PS5 is selling nearly as fast as the PS4 under unbelievable circumstances, yet it's apparently not enough?

People desperately need to chill out.

The reason they get so much pushback is precisely because they are on top.

No one cares if the worst team in the league gets another loss, but everyone's waiting for the #1 to get a loss, and they'll jeer when it happens.

This is what comes when you're this dominant for so long.

Imagine all the future sales they lost on PS5 Pro and PS6 because of these ports. Many won't even get the console at all.

These games also go up in the rankings when they are on sale on PSN and Sony would keep 100% of the profit. What a missed opportunity.
It's not gonna affect the console sales. At worse it's neutral : some people who have a gaming PC will hold out not buying a console, but some will choose to get a PS5 because they've played a game on PC and its sequel will be exclusive, or their PC will need updating and will cost an arm and a leg.

Sony did the calculation and chose to do ports. Don't armchair CEO this.

Not only did they do the math on this, but they implemented PSN login on all of their titles so as to better track migration vs net new users. There's always going to be a small percentage of people who create a new PSN on PC, but likely neglible.

If what doomers suggest was actually happening, Sony would be the first to know and you'd see a delay in how soon games come to PC in a continuous evolution of their strategy.

The same will be true with a PC launcher that will also require a PSN login.

Single player gamers are the wrong audience to cater to. Never satisfied. Always blowing through a big release in a week and then jumping on social media is whine about how far away the next big release is.

If only there was a different type of game...

Phil said exactly this about Hifi Rush and the studio got shutdown and the IP sold 🤡

How did that work for Hellblade 2? How many consoles it sold? That strategy already failed.

The sequels are also getting ported so what you're saying makes no sense (Horizon FW and Ragnarok). The people getting a PS5 after playing on PC are so small they are cancelled by the people not getting a PS5 at all.

HFW sold less than Horizon and the CCU was also less than the first. Where are these supposed new customers?

Sony did the calculation and chose to do ports. Don't armchair CEO this.
CEOs are wrong all the time. WTF is this reverence?

Consider this; this is Sony's year as a Publisher:

Astro Bot - 94
TLOU2 Remastered - 90
Helldivers 2 - 82
Stellar Blade - 81
MLB The Show 24 - 80
Rise of the Ronin - 76
Concord - 62

PC
Horizon Forbidden West PC - 89
Ghost of Tsushima PC - 89

They still have
Lego Horizon Adventure
God of War Ragnarok PC
Until Dawn

So far that's 4 titles that are 89 or higher and 7 titles that are 80 or higher. Find me another publisher this consistent. They have 1 game out of 9 so far this year under a 75.

This was supposed to be a dry or bad year for them remember? Calling them the most prolific publisher is an understatement. I'd love to hear anyone in the business with HALF of this.

You would think PC gamers would love them because their PC games aside from a bad port from Iron Galaxy get a lot of love and attention from Nixxes and Jetpack Interactive. Most companies don't give a shit about the quality of their PC ports... Sony's are pretty consistently high quality.

Edit: Totally forgot to add Final Shape which is an 89.
What a sad and pathetic list of games. You have no standards.

They're still the best for this year, Microsoft sucks and Nintendo is focused on their next console, but that doesn't mean it's a good list.

Try 3rd party then. Who is better?

Sad and pathetic list, yet you can't tell me anyone who even has half the quality here.

5 releases with 89 or higher in one year... but sad and pathetic... sure... keep telling yourself that.

As I said, HFW sold less so I don't know where all these extra PC customers are coming from. It will never reach half the sales of HZD. We'll see Ragnarok this week.

Until Dawn and Lego Horizon will both be monumental flops on PC. This I guarantee.

Sony is doing hero projects in China, India and Africa. You don't think there's any growth there?
Losing a selling point for your platform to release PC ports (that struggle to sell 1 million) is somehow more valuable?

They gave up too early.

I'll give you some standards, a game doesn't count if it's a

Lazy remaster or remake
TLOU2 Remastered
Until Dawn

Multiplatform
MLB The Show 24
Lego Horizon Adventure

PC port
Horizon Forbidden West PC
Ghost of Tsushima PC
God of War Ragnarok PC

Lower than 80 on Metacritic
Rise of the Ronin
Concord

So we're left with
Astro Bot
Helldivers 2
Stellar Blade

TLOU2 Remastered
Until Dawn

A lazy remaster wouldn't review well. Why does a remake not count? Are all remakes guaranteed to be well received?

Multiplatform
MLB The Show 24
Lego Horizon Adventure

What does multiplatform have to do with anything?

PC port
Horizon Forbidden West PC
Ghost of Tsushima PC
God of War Ragnarok PC

Again, most PC ports end up as disasters. They're a publisher on PC whether you like it or not, and having stellar PC ports is part of what makes them a good publisher.

Lower than 80 on Metacritic
Rise of the Ronin
Concord

Is under 80 a failure?

Rise of the Ronin was the fastest selling Koei Tecmo game according to them.

So we're left with
Astro Bot
Helldivers 2
Stellar Blade

Helldivers is multiplatform too, but you counted it. I'm sure you think Final Shape doesn't count either.

You still can't tell me a studio with half this quality.

Nintendo with
Paper Mario a good remake that people actually want
and Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
actually they can do better than Sony with
Mario & Luigi: Brothership and Super Mario Party Jamboree but I'm less confident about the quality of these two games so we'll have to wait
