Funny, isn't it....

How the pandemic obscured things in different ways for PlayStation and Xbox.
For Xbox it gave them cover to buy the limited inventory of chips and stuff the supply chain with Series S consoles that were cheaper to make and used less wafer, which gave the appearance of higher demand than it really had.

Yet for PlayStation it worked in the opposite way, it obscured partially or limited how high the demand actually was for the console as they couldn't keep any stock on the shelves or in the supply chain... many people online just said that sales were way below what they actually were (looking at you VGChartz).

The false figures circulated made it seem like the consoles were far closer than they were in reality and even still people have no real concept of how different the levels of demand are for these machines.

I mean, if we take out Series S, which I don't really consider a next gen console.... how many Series X's have been sold? That is the real next gen disparity.
I actually think the pandemic irreparably altered ps5's trajectory. Around launch time I saw so much hype even amongst nongamers and casuals that I was absolutely sure that they could sell through 40+m units in one year if they had enough stock. But throughout 2021 the hype slowly faded due to people giving up from not being able to get one. Now that the pandemic is over and the normies have gone back to other hobbies i think the potential the ps5 had is gone and we're due for just a normal, albeit above average generation when previously I think ps5 could have surpassed ps2 in unit sales.

I think you could be right, it would have potentially sold over 160 million.... especially if they had the units there for year 1 and 2.
It's a lesson they need to learn for the next generation, streaming isn't gonna take over. So they should just realize all their success is based completely on selling hardware first and having great exclusives to attract people.

But with even the current trajectory, if they can hit 5-7 million console sales per quarter, I think they could get to 120-130 million if they have the drive.
Still think they need a slim and pro model though for that.

PS5 broke gaming history records at launch but stopped doing it because of the chips shortage caused by covid drastically reduced the amount of consoles they were able to manufacture. Now they are getting rid of the chips shortages so they go back to sell like crazy and break historical records and at this current pace will outpace PS4 launch aligned around early summer. Sony mentions that 30% of the PS5 MAU didn't have a PS4, so most of these 30% are these 'normies'.

The insane demand of PS5 consoles is still there, they continue selling out even if they highly increased the production and shipments. And seems they'll continue pushing the production, won't be a Christmas period only thing, meaning it will continue improving after outpacing PS4, so pretty likely will end way more. And on top of that Sony is working on more exclusives than ever, soon we'll start seeing new IPs from new partners like Bungie, while also pushing these IPs beyond than before with movies or tv shows, PC ports and mobile games. So their fanbase will grow even more.

People like @Bryank75 was worried about the PC ports, but shortly after GoW 2018 PC, GoWR sold in PS 11 millions in barely a couple months while GoW 2018 took a year to sell 10M. The TLOU tv show skyrocketed TLOU1 remastered, TLOU2 and TLOUP1 sales putting them in the sales ranking. This strategy is starting to provide results.

PS4 should be/will end at around 120M and PS2 sold around 155M. I'm pretty sure PS5 will outsell PS4, and I think it's likely it may even outsell PS2. Sony is achieving many all time gaming history records for any console in several metrics and seems that the only reason that it doesn't go way beyond is that they weren't able to produce more units, something they are fixing.

Where it’s at.
Yeap… since 2020 you keep reading that Xbox is in a great shape and moment.

When it wasn’t.
Anyone who was still saying XBox was doing great when Halo Infinite missed the Series launch by a year was either retarded, suffering from a traumatic brain injury, drunk, on a paid shill.

Or all of the above like a few people we all know.

Wait, they lost another 2 million PS+ subscribers, despite the revamp ?

Jeese ..
All these numbers and that's what you decide to focus on? 🫠

They were at 47.3 before the revamp and now they're at 46.4 so they "lost" 0.9. These people were on PS4 and they ditched their old consoles last summer. They were probably confused by the tiers and cancelled the whole thing.

They'll get them back during the year. Sony is not worried, they're making more money than ever with that (wonderful) service 😘

Nintendo needs to step it up with future hardware specs/features as Sony needs competition from a company like them who knows to make a bunch of high quality original content.

Astroapple again with the bullshit:

YoY they lost 1.6M, not 2M. QoQ they gained 1M.
YoY network services are up 15B, QoQ they're up 5B

All here> https://www.sony.com/en/SonyInfo/IR/library/presen/er/pdf/22q3_supplement.pdf

Luckily for Sony they aren't completely dependent on a failing subscription service for the future of their platform...unlike a certain someone LOL

Lucky for Sony subscription revenue is up and after the "fall" on PS Plus users, they started to recover on Q3. Not unexpected, the subscription is close to market saturation and they have 112M active users, meaning that >40% have a subscription. At 50 quid minimum per subscription, that's a shit load of money.

The lead communications for Microsoft is at it again with this Gem....

Getting completely obliterated on twitter for being so cringe...

the comments are indeed kinda crazy, looks like the public is revolting against MS.

MS is playing a risky game here. i've never seen this level of hatred and public outcry. The xbox is truly a toxic brand that is hated by gamers.

It's not looking good for Xbox's future in this business...

You do competition developing and releasing games.

Buying companies and killing them is basically the opposite of competition… it is what you do to kill competition.

The guys deserved the public cancellation imo.
He said something he has no ideia what it.
The whole “I don’t know how to play the game [rules of a free marketing] then I will buy it” is by the book how you move to kill competition.

people are starting to see and feel the full effect of MS's acquisitions this year with the upcoming bethesda games.

there hasn't even been a real, full bethesda exclusive release on xbox yet.

it'll be interesting to see the reaction to starfield, the new doom, wolfenstein, and all the other bigger stuff.

most casuals and normies probably don't even realize MS owns these games now.
