Sony will earn more from Call of Duty this year, with a higher % cut per sale.

Good grief, this entire install for Call of Duty is the stupidest shit, ever. I don't want a portal with all my COD games in it. I don't want to have to check/uncheck games, packs. I still show that I have 330gb in Call of Duty crap installed. I went and chose to keep COD Black Ops 6 campaign and the Black Ops 6 multiplayer. Hit save. Nothing happened. Did it 4 more times, and nothing happened still. Then I decided to UNSELECT all, and only check off the two items I wanted to keep and hit save. It deleted everything, and is REINSTALLING the 88.30gb for COD Black Ops 6 campaign and multiplayer.

Can't we just have a single game, single download and play?

If you followed the FTC trial then you would know Sony was only getting 20%
I followed the FTC trial and nothing was said about 20% for Sony.
People made up that because Activation made a deal to Microsoft drop the cut to 20%.

FTC only says that Sony and Activation reached a deal in 2020 to have a lower cut than it was before... no numbers showed.
And people without any proof assumed it was 30% to 20%.

It's not my first, but this is the first time it has epically pissed me right off. I am watching the install from my desk at work and it might actually work this time. We shall see. Only a few minutes left.

Gamers win when xbox loses

You out @akira__ me. Damn.

I still remember the moment they came into the gaming scene.
Back then I was a huge Nintendo fan N64 was my jam. Sony forced me to buy PlayStation because of FF7, FF8, FF9, Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo, Resident Evil 2, etc.
But my heart back then was with Nintendo and especially Rare games. My favorite game was Perfect Dark. The amount of modes, features, weapon variations, and weapon modes is still unparalleled today.

They had a laptop gun that you could throw at a wall and it would become a sentry, shooting at your enemies. There was a gun you could throw on the ground as a booby-trapped proximity bomb. And even an alien gun that could see and shoot through walls.
I was so excited to see what Rare would bring us on the GameCube. And then bam. bought out by MS. The GameCube had a drought and good games were far and between, PS2 came, and that was the end of me being Nintendo fan.

Rare wasn't even a shell of itself, they just vanished.
And you'll never guess who led Rare on ms side: The Phillness...

It isn't lol.

This 20% was never shared by FTC.

Edit - To avoid confusion this is what was shared.
The 20% number is just asumptions.
Only the parts of the process and the judge knows the values because it is private data (and I doubt the judge or the lawers from both sides leaked the data).

Doesn't matter what the exact number is. They are getting much better (standard) margins on billions of revenue and like Lulu stated a better deal than what Kotick en co offered.

On top of no exclusivity possibility until basically PS7, Cloud restrictions and others like feature parity (this means even if Xbox comes out sooner with a next console it needs to be on par with PS5).

I don't know how it's possible but it all folded to his benefit including them publishing on PS. Plus the competitor being scrutinised by MS HQ and preventing them with regulators for more acquisitions after creating chaos and delaying the deal for two years.

Microsoft will get 100% of sales for Xbox, 70% or 80% (don't know which) from all other platforms where COD is sold. Sony will get either 20% or 30% cut from every COD game sale and micro-transaction. Either way, Microsoft will make way more revenue than Sony.

One party has to pay for development, marketing, publishing, etc.

The other one isn't.

I know and Microsoft will STILL make more revenue because their percentage is more than double and if it's 80%, it's four times more. When Sony ports a game to PC like Spider Man 2, they'll still spending extra money on development and marketing/advertising yet they will still make more money than the 30% cut that Valve will get.

Microsoft don't want revenue. They want profit.

I know this too and their profits will be higher when all is said and done.
Disagree heavily. Gamepass will destroy their call of duty margins. I'm eagerly anticipating the q3 earnings report because imho it's going to be the nail in the coffin of xbox as a hardware platform and gamepass as a software platform.

Strongly disagree because those who only play COD every year will still buy the game on Xbox. They're not going anywhere nor are they going to sign up for Game Pass Ultimate. Those who play a few games a year and COD is one of them, they'll just buy the game as well. Game Pass Ultimate will mostly get those like me who'll play the campaign and then move on.

I don't see any of this being a nail in the coffin of Xbox hardware or Game Pass because the consoles aren't what Microsoft cares about the most. What they care about the most is overall revenue and profit followed by player base for the games themselves. In order to accomplish this, they'll do what they started doing years ago which is release their games everywhere. The Xbox consoles will sell 30-50m as will next generation and that will be more than enough for Microsoft because it's not only about the consoles. It's about their overall platform and eco-system.

Xbox consoles will be there as an option for those like me who simply prefer the platform, eco-system and want to play there including those who already do. The Xbox consoles aren't about getting new people. It's about retaining what they have which they will via Game Pass and/or those who simply prefer it all as their main gaming platform. Microsoft will use all the other platforms out there including but not limited to PlayStation to grow the IP's and games themselves.

If anything, I don't see Xbox hardware going anywhere because of Microsoft's third party direction. It's going to bring in more revenue and profit than ever before which they were already doing when compared to previous generations. Will Xbox consoles be #1 or #2? Hell no. But Microsoft won't need it to be. Microsoft isn't going to sacrifice the 30% cut from third party publishers which regardless of what anyone wants to believe is literally the strongest and best it's ever been and that includes Xbox 360.

We'll see what happens but since they've basically already announced their next generation console(s) are in research and development, I don't see Xbox going anywhere. Funny thing is that their third party direction could keep the Xbox brand, consoles, platform and eco-system alive far longer than if they just stayed "exclusive" because Sony/Nintendo are simply too strong brand name wise and are both worldwide, I don't believe that would have done anything to grow Xbox consoles.

The only way I ever believed that they would have had any chance at being a powerhouse and surpassing Sony/Nintendo would have been if COD was 100% console exclusive to Xbox as I do believe that IP is by far the biggest in the industry and on a yearly basis, even a so called shitty COD game like MW III still sold 20m+ or some shit. Once Microsoft announced that COD would remain multi-platform, any chance of that happening ended.

Microsoft wants to simply become the game industry's biggest publisher which let's be honest, they probably will be if they're not already (and yes, you could argue that they already are) while keeping Xbox console(s) around for those like me who prefer it over PlayStation as well as those who want to save money long term due to Game Pass Ultimate while at the same time, getting that 30% cut from third party publishers.

Microsoft and the Xbox brand will be just fine. The only people who even give a shit about them porting games to Sony/Nintendo platforms are the extremists which is such a small percentage that in all honesty, they don't even matter.

Her spin is telling.
Better deal = same deal PS has with all publishers.

Kotick at least gone negotiate and get a discount… she basically is getting happy with what everybody else pays 🤷🏻‍♂️
