FY: games got released later than expected so revenue will come later than expected. Some lost sales could have been lost because of bugs at launch, but after fixes they could recover them or most via some extra sales when they consider it makes sense.
TLOU is out of the top 100 on Steam. It will never sell meaningful numbers ever again unless they sell it for $10 or less.

Returnal is played by 100 people worldwide. It is dead forever until they give it away on Indie Humble name your price with a minimum of $1 for charity.

Yep, Playstation has wrecked their decade long exclusive strategy just to make pennies and then sales cratering indefinitely. Short term profit maximization eating at long term brand value

The daily active players for a single player game and ranking the never have been relevant for Steam sales estimations.

According to the 'user reviews x 25' quick estimate method, which is the most reliable quick estimate for Steam for this type of games, TLOU sales are at around almost at 850K and Returnal at around 115K.

That's almost 1M copies at $60 from these 2 games until now, in less than a quarter, and they still didn't have any discount or price drop. Plus there's 10 months of the fiscal year still ahead.

Account with almost 800k followers btw. Once this sentiment reaches the mainstream Playstation hardware will be in trouble. Especially as we know all future sony GAAS games will also be day 1 on PC.

I sold my ps5 last august after Herman hulst said everything coming to pc. GAAS day one, and the other stuff 1-2 years later. I’m happy to wait.

I find the doom and gloom for PlayStation PC ports fascinating.

Horizon Zero Dawn PC released in what...2020? The start of the doom and gloom then add a number of PC releases later right up to 2023 and PlayStation hardware is having some of its highest selling months in its history. Demand is through the roof. And without the pandemic install base would have been even higher than today.

So 2-3 years after initial release seem like a solid amount of time to not affect the hardware business. There is a balancing act that Herman and Jim have discussed many times and the time delay can be adjusted at any moment if required.

PlayStation wants to maximise the income and reach of it single player gamers.

The solution is a time based business model.

Think of it like the path of a theatrical film release. You maximize sales at the box office, 3-6 months later rent/buy at home, 6-9 months later add to streaming service(s) and boost subscriber numbers and reach.

The business model has worked for decades, have the mainstream stopped going cinema because films can be watched sometime later at home? No.

PlayStation are doing the same, PS5 being the theatrical release in this case then 2-3 years later after maximizing sales and PS+ subscriber opportunities then its time to go for reach.

Release on PC, release on Mac, release on any device that can handle it this way more people are exposed to the game and generating fresh new income.

And maybe they'll buy a PS5 to play the sequel day one. If not Sony are okay if you choose to wait, its still extra revenue they were not getting before.

You could say full PlayStation exclusives are over. Which sounds scary for some fans. And fanboys feed off of. But the timed approach to game releases is a win win for Sony.

Gaas games on the other hand is maximum exposure day one for the biggest audience and income just a different business model.

Im happy more people get to play Ratchet and Clank its a great game that deserves more fans of Insomniac games.

The problem with this, we had no issue with them porting selective titles over. Horizon, God of War and Days Gone made sense they have upcoming games coming exclusive to the PS ecosystem.

When you started porting games like Spiderman / Miles way too early ( when that port should have been released this Summer).

Porting The Last Of Us during a time it was selling great on PS5 and potentially moved a few more units.

Stripping the PS5 of all it's first party exclusives except Demon Souls. That's aa problem.

Returnal Bombed, Sackboy Bombed, miles underperformed, TLoU underperformed.

There was no reason for them to release so many games in such a short period. They stripped their system of value while having to share 30% of the profits.

These releases should have been events instead they came and went like a wet fart because they over-released

A game like Ratchet has no reason being on PC it's gonna bomb.

From what I understand Sony are moving from having lifetime exclusives to a ‘play first on PlayStation’ approach to its single player games. With exceptions but ultimately that’s the plan. They figure there’s more value to Sony in releasing older games to potentially millions more people.

Sony estimates $450 million in sales from pc this fiscal year.

Adding more revenue than if it stayed exclusive and exposing millions more people to there games. With strategic releases hoping fomo could attract those people to pick up a PS5 to play a new release.

It’s a departure from how we typically value a console (its exclusives) but it’s working so far. PS5 still in high demand. Record breaking sales months. Higher software sales. Millions more people exposed to PlayStation games. It’s actual value (monetary) that goes back to PlayStation.

It’s strange since games get abandoned on ps5 and released on ox later offering more.
Like ff7 remake. No 40 fps or vrr mode. But I don’t want to play on pc since rebirth will be ps5 timed so it would be weird going from 120 4k to 30-60 fps in sequel.

Sony is just using the cinema business model as stated above If you want to play it first play it on console. If you want to play it your way play on PC later.
