All that money from Sony pictures and Sony music and they still don't combine them into on mega sub

Sony movies one sub
Playstation one sub
Sony music (like Spotify or Amazon music) another sub.

One mega sub gets all. Sell the mega sub to PC gamers as well, profit.

Don't fool yourselves into thinking piracy is a problem for console games, it isn't. The vast majority are not worth playing, let alone pirating.

DEI is a huge cost driver, look at Naughty Dog's productivity falling through the floor due to it. I don't care if you like it or not, we are talking about costs.
Common, no it isn't. DEI departments are not massive cost centres, they are usually tiny, if not part of HR operations.

Costs need to be cut.

Having studios in the most expensive cities and the most expensive countries tries in the world will, of course drive up costs.

Then superfluous initiatives, wellbeing programs, days out, fiesta lunches, industry events not aimed at customers....

Costs have been allowed to balloon for no good reason.

The answer was never going to be putting games in more places, it was always going to be cutting costs aggressively.

In Sony / PlayStation generally there are too many people in PR and too many analysts that don't add anything to the business.

Bringing this even further: first party studios serve no purpose if they are neither making fully exclusive games or making MASSIVE profits.

Either they make FULLY exclusive games or they have something that is everywhere and making absolute bank.... Otherwise they should be shuttered, because they are useless.

And the irony being, if they push games everywhere (especially Day 1), Sony still loses a lot in revenue and profits because that destroys a lot of the demand for a console among hardcore and core enthusiasts, which will inevitably spill over to mainstream & casual would-be purchasers as well to some degree (slower early adoption rates, slower mid-adoption rates, lower overall adoption rates = less revenue = less profits).

The only real thing that would do is convince SIE to manufacture less consoles, which would improve margins obviously. But at the cost of likely some percentage less profits (although margins would be further improved by cutting out 3P exclusivity deals, licensing fees for content in PS+, associated distribution costs etc. because if you have less people buying the console and less spending, less reason to invest in those things = a negative feedback loop).

Just make less expensive games and make them more iterative.

3 games the size of Lost Legacy are better than one Uncharted 4 in one gen. 3 games like Miles Morales are better than one Spider-Man 2.

Sure maybe instead of 20 million sales for one game you do 10 million each but is that bad? You get more profit, devs get to learn more each release and continue to improve their pipeline.

At what pace do these devs improve if for each game it takes them 5 to 6 years to make? There’s very little learning here.

No, those only do recruitment, the cost from DEI comes from multiple factors:

1. the actual new recruits. This means that if a company goes for whatever internal target of representation, they have to go through recruitment sprees. Each new hire is a significant cost.

2. Production pipelines are impacted. Look at the recent Suicide Squad game, work needs to be constantly reviewed by sensitivity readers and such. They can be external companies, like Sweet Baby Inc, or internal. Either way, that's a significant amount between the consultancy fee and the actual rework that resulted from it.

3. Teams can get bogged down in politics, given that DEI hires are inclined to be activists. Look at the recent expose of Disney and their recent Wish film, where animators could only work on characters of their own race and skin color. Even Naughty Dog's president was recently stating how they are focused on reducing crunch rather than any particular product.

4. They can also result in market misreading that can result in drops in sales, look at the Mulvaney/ Bud Light fiasco, or game or movie companies alienating consumers through the promotion of those policies.

This is why those policies are extremely expensive. As usual, this is not the place to discuss whether they are good or bad, my only intended point is that they can be extremely expensive to companies.

Biggest back catalog of music in the world, of any music company.

Unfortunate that subscription destroyed music income so much. They would be making ten times more.
Yeah it's crazy who they have tht ppl aren't aware of like Adele, Travis, Future etc of course the two mentioned above like Beyonce who are well above who I've mentioned. My point is they got some ppl under them and all types of money makers.

Is this actually true? Because if so, holy shit. That is incredibly racist and discriminatory in and of itself. How do you gatekeep and segregate your own employees that way, not to mention stifle them creatively by forcing them to only work on characters who match their ethnicity/skin color?

Disney really is reflective of a lot of the worst consequences of modern-day identity politics. Really hoping X-Men '97 doesn't fall into the same trap (and yes there's a massive difference between being smart and calling out racism/homophobia/sexism the way the '90s X-Men cartoon did, and the often-racist and stereotypical/bigoted/conceited bulldozing stupidity of calling out the same that many modern Hollywood productions suffer from doing).

The hypocrisy from the political machines pushing these agendas and views is amazing. This all started a few years ago with ppl complaining ppl of other races or ethnicities shouldn't act out roles of specific groups or voice act. It's amazing how far this has gone.

Anyway let's not get into the politics too much. We know what it is.

Yeah. It's tough to not get too much into the actual politics of it (because the conversation can get very unpleasant and very away from games, I get it) but they are affecting games, in both production and narrative, so it's tough to know the line.

@thicc_girls_are_teh_best yup it's true, check out film threat's expose, it's on Chris Gore's website, It's flat out insane what is going on in Disney.

If one single source says it, we should absolutely trust it, especially if it confirms our biases!

It's not one, it's multiple vetted sources, multiple animators reached out to them after their Wish review mentioned how mediocre it was. What happened at Disney was nasty, really nasty and no wonder things are going badly for them.

They are actually doing a series of reports based on their testimonies, check it out.
