Expectations: People actually delivering arguments why and how Sony is doomed because of Square going multiplatform or Sony themselves releasing games on PC.

Reality: Children are furious that other children are able to play with their toys now.

Ghost of Tsushima sold almost 10 million copies on Playstation. How exactly is "Sony´s PC initiative" hurting the brand?

Was Ghost of Tsushima even considered to go on PC when it sold 10 million copies?

No because everyone knew if they wanted to play it they had to get a PlayStation

What about Spider-Man 2 then? Over 10 Million units sold in just a few months. And thats after the first part released on PC.

Ok, this comment doesn't make any sense. Has Square seen how MS advertises their games? You’ll get a tweet and be happy.

That person doesn't seem to be connected with reality.

Again the only way to play the game is on PS5.

Once you go day and date, Sony is encouraged to spend less and less on the console side of their business, the console versions of the games will get progressively less optimises and Sony First Party Studios will eventually lose their prestige due to a lack of quality in needing to push the best games to sell your platform

They will get away with selling the bare minimum and still get the sales on PC

Focusing on PC is harmful to AAA blockbusters. It’s sad but true

It's a very old comment from years ago

Square has been multiplatform for years, this isnt new…?
FF15, Dragon Quest? Kingdom Hearts 3? Were they happy with the Xbox and PC sales?

Plus games like Triangle Theory, Octopath were kept away from PS, so not sure why everyone just complains about PS exclusives.

Sony also is gonna find it harder and harder to keep old 3rd party games exclusive. Sega/Atlus is gone, no signs of FromSoft, Square is leaving too. Team NInja won’t be hanging around for long either. I believe review scores are pressured when games are PS exclusive and developers are starting to release that.

Instead of Playstation doing deals like we’re in the 2000’s and 2010’s, they need to buy some of these studios instead

Even with games such as Helldivers 2 (The most successful game of this year), FF7R & Stellar Blade. Very worrying indeed.
In the case of F7R and Stellar Blade, Sony should have shouted louder that "these games will also be released on PC" while talking about "the future of Sony on PC."

This cut off a significant portion of buyers who could have purchased the game and console, and made PS5 owners think twice about investing in the PS5 in the future.

They’d rather spend money on Paramount instead

Nothing new under the sun, no news.

How can you convince third parties to make exclusives for your platform when you release your own games on other platforms?
As Sony (or Nintendo, or MS) always did and continues doing with companies like SE: paying them enough money.

They’d rather spend money on Paramount instead
Yes, it would be a way better business to acquire Paramount than to acquire SE. SE makes $2-3B/year, Paramount makes $30B/year.

Paramount would help them jump from being top 4-5 in movies to become market leaders. In gaming they already are market leaders, and acquiring SE wouldn't be a similar meaningful change for their gaming business.

So they want to others publishers cover the marketing.

In US they do indeed good marketing... even in Brazil they do.
You see it in Subway and bus stations... they are very aggressive... at Xbox One launch you have a whole tunnel that lead to the Subway (called Metro here) of over 100 meters with the launch games.

You barely see any PlayStation marketing in that way.

A small example.

That is what Square Enix is talking about.

Edit - Sony do that a lot in Europe... you can see PlayStation ads in London Subway, Stadiums (watch the Champions League for example), etc.
But they do lack that in US and America countries where Xbox shows ads everywhere.

So its worth forgoing sonys marketing, sonys money, an established relationship, and sonys developers helping with development for xbox ads at the mall?

Ok, so the main FF games on PS are actually paying the bills. Now I’m confused.

They are not forgoing anything.
They want to use both Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, etc to market their games.

Like they said the Microsoft marketing can lead to PlayStation sales of the game.
They don't even believe the Xbox sales will resolve the issue... but they believe the bigger push of marketing in all fronts can lead to more sales including in PlayStation.
I should says at least it a bold strategy :D

The HD Segment posted double loses than last FY.
8 billion yen in loses... up from 4 billion from previous year.

That is around $50 million in loses.

The increase in sales are because they released more titles (well there is two FFs in FY23).

~26% increase in revenue (remember they had two FFs)
~100% increase in operational loses.

Do you understand the issue and why they are doing drastic changes?
The sales of two FFs titles where solid but not enough to put the HD Games segment in the blue... they needed more sales.

What are you talking about? Which single player, first party game from Sony is going day and date on PC? They repeatedly said that only GAAS/Multiplayer games will release simultaneously on PC/PS5. Not single player games.

Also, we already know that Spider-Man 2 will come to PC. So why are you bringing argument for Ghost of Tsushima and with Spider-Man 2 you are saying "only way to play the game is on PS5".

Sony first party titles do not sell that much on PC. Definetly not something first party studios of Playstation can get away with delivering the "bare minimum".

What a load of bullshit one needs to read here.
