Starfield was comfortably No.1 across Europe during its launch week, GSD data shows.

The Xbox game, which is also on PC, became the fastest-selling new IP of the year, and the fifth fastest-selling game of the year overall. Its launch sales are ahead of Final Fantasy 16 and Resident Evil 4, but behind Hogwarts Legacy, Diablo IV, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
The data isn't quite like-for-like, as Starfield was technically available a week earlier for those who purchased the premium edition, so had a few extra days of sales. Starfield was also a day one Xbox Game Pass release, and that data isn't included here, either.

The game just about comes ahead of Forza Horizon 5 as the biggest Xbox launch this generation across Europe.

Good debut despite gamepass. It might actually outsell FF16 too in unit sales. Thank the steam version for that since it doesn’t look like gamepass is doing what it needs to in order to sway users to windows store version.

Still no. 2 on XBL in NA; top spot not reached (halo did it for like 3 days at least)

Gamepass version No. 7 on windows (split in numerous SKUs tracked separately)

Other notes from charts … Diablo and OW2 = fail

Somehow I have the feeling he really wants to portray Starfield as a huge success.

BG3 is also missing from the list because Larian doesn't pass on numbers. Unfortunately, Starfield doesn't have any data on where it sold most often.

The top 10 will still change anyway. Spider-Man 2, AC Mirage, "Fifa", CoD, Mario and Avatar are all still coming. Let's see where Starfield finds itself in the EU and US annual charts.

Such lists are nice, but have no meaning when it comes to actual sales figures.

As expected Chris was way off with the Diablo 4 comparison. This is also by sales units not by revenue. The two weeks of tracking instead of one aswell due to early access, so it seems to me the ‘upgrades’ count towards a full sale, so that skews it even more as that was like $30-40

Notice he portrays it very favourable, whilst not giving the bigger picture. It’s far from a previous Bethesda ‘mainline’ release. He makes it sound it’s the number 5 best selling game of 2023 already, the legs on this game will be far from good especially when this is manipulated with two weeks of tracking compared to one for some of the other games. The actual top 10 will be interesting by the end of the year.

These aren't first week, article says that early access was included. So it's really the first 2 weeks of sales being touted as "1st week sales" 😐 typical Xbox fraudery. All they know how to do is fluff up numbers and manipulate data.
Ahh, there we have it. This is exactly why I'm sick and tired of this spin. Either tell it like it is or shut up.

The first part of his tweet suggests that Starfield is the 5th best-selling game to date for the year 2023, but when you look at the article in detail, which isn't very clear, you can see that this isn't the case, since he indicates that it's only the 5th best launch week for 2023.

Which is totally different. It's a bit unclear.

This also includes the 2 weeks for Starfield: 1st week of early access + 2nd week of launch.
Whereas most other games have only one week.

It's a bit of a skewed classification.

He's obfuscating the facts to make it seem like it performed better than it actually did. No one wants to acknowledge the fact that it's a flop, already losing more than half of it's player base on Steam and already out of the #1 spot on Xbox.

Starfield is not a flop. Just didn't live up to the expectations. The game will just keep growing as the years pass with dlc and the mod scene booming.

idk, for something that was supposed to be "Game of the Generation" and "Bethesda's Magnum Opus", it fell very short. Idk how you can call it anything else but a flop. And honestly that's not the games fault, its Microsoft's fault for having such a horrible generation and making Starfield shoulder their burden. No 1st party Sony game will ever have to carry that type of burden because Sony is consistent with their game releases.

A general rule of thumb is: If a company is so desperately trying to present something as fact, using false/obfuscated info, the product they're trying to present is not performing as intended.

Same BS Square tried pulling with FF XVI, flip-flopping with their data.

That's why we need an industry-wide regulation system in place, where people like Dring are forced to provide all data pertaining to the subject at hand.
