Are you saying a prequel can't compliment a story? What exactly is your argument?
What is exactly your argument?

Reach has own story of events that happens before Halo CE.

SotE happens in the middle of the events of Elden Ring… to be exactly before the end of the game… it is a complementary story to fill gaps.

It is part of Elden Ring’s story… not events before or after Elden Ring… it is events of the Elden Ring’s story.

Are you trying to be obtuse or faking ignorance?

Um no, it is its own story, separate from the events of the main game of Elden Ring. It only compliments things from a lore basis, like how Reach is filling in the holes of Halo lore. Also enjoy this...

It is the events of Elden Ring.
The event in Elden Ring already hint what that story and you follow it via DLC before the end of the Elden Ring story.
It is part of Elden Ring’s story.

BTW from your link… exactly what I’m saying to you 🤷🏻‍♂️

“But when it comes down to technical things, DLC is pretty much data – you’re adding data to a preexisting title. And so when we wanted to add bigger changes, DLC is not enough, and that’s why we thought maybe a sequel would be a good fit.”

New games are new games apart from the old game.
DLCs are part of the old game.

Artorias of the Abyss, the Dark Souls DLC, is a prequel to Dark Souls. Is it not DLC?

What about the Shadow of the Erdtree events affects the Elden Ring story, btw? Since you know so much.

stop editing your posts after you send dude, figure out what you're going to say before hitting send. I know this is getting you all hot and bothered but take your damn time next time so I don't need to reply again and point to you things like, yeah dude, that's technical definitions, i'm clearly not arguing technical definitions and never have been.

I always edit posts to complement things…
That is why “edit” exists.
And I don’t care about what you do at all 🤷🏻‍♂️

I already explained and you keep in denial lol

You can’t blame me for your bias due hating TotK.

You said a complimentary story makes something DLC. You said Halo Reach is a prequel and therefore not a complimentary story and not DLC (except in MCC which is LOL but forget that). I said in Artorias of the Abyss you're playing the PREQUEL to Dark Souls, yet it's labelled as DLC by everyone and wanted to know if you still consider it DLC. You accuse me of "being ignorant on purpose". When it comes to the arbitrary rules you apply to what makes something a DLC I have to claim actual ignorance, dude, enlighten me.

Again…

Reach tells you it own events before Halo CE events… they are connected but they are set apart as World War I and World War II.

SotE tells you events that happened during the event of Elden Ring… it is like telling the story of the Italy surrender that culminated in the Gemany surrender.

They are different places and events happening in the same overall story… one is a direct part of the other.

Miquella, the main character of the DLC, is part of the lore of Elden Ring… he has a history in Elden Ring it just not know what happened to him until well SotE… his familiars talks about him in the base game… his body is found in the base game (and of course explained in the DLC the reason)… the DLC explain why people in the base game calls him “the kind”.

He is not the only character of the base game to have more background story in the DLC.

Because the events of the DLC where happening in parallel to events of Elden Ring… both are the same story.

Did you ever read Games of Thrones? It tells stories in parallel that at first seems like unrelated to each other but that in reality is all events and part of the same story… they are not sequels, or prequels, they are events of the same full story.

That is what is a complementary lore to me.
And not events that happened in the past or future that have indirect relationship with the actual story.

You can play the Elden Ring DLC after the game is finished actually, because finishing the story has no bearing on the events in the DLC... because the DLC tells its own self-contained story that isn't influenced by the main stories events or vice versa.

Also, again, I ask you if you consider Artorias of the Abyss DLC by these weird rules you have? It's a prequel taking place a LONG time before Dark Souls, unlike say, Halo CE which takes place directly after the fall of Reach when they're trying to escape.

Getting into narrative discussions makes this even funnier.

Sorry that our reality disagrees with your opinions.

You should look that up. Lmfao.

But thanks for more comedy and Nintenyearold copium. Botw ported to latest version of Nintendo’s switch engine. You can pretend that they engineered something brand new for it but that’s a lie.

Wait till you realize most developers consider each new cut of their engine for a new game to effectively be referred to as a new and upgrade engine; like starfield.

Straight up copy and paste. They didn’t even touch combat either.

Sequel tier content drops, new stories, and sweeping meaningful overhauls to gameplay can be done with expansions. It’s a dev choice more than it ever was.

Totk was a shameless copy and paste rehash. Sure it added layers, but that’s at base what players expect from a dlc. The problem for me is I don’t value the banio Kazooie nuts and bolts Minecraft stuff for shit. Zelda has moved away from what I liked about it… dungeons. Others do value the physics based stuff and building aspect — hey fallout 4 even gave you more shit to build with in dlc if that’s your thing. So yea; still could’ve been done in dlc. Lols

This debate stretching into narrative makes it even funnier because Zelda also gives zero fucks about story. Like what? All other games described take it more seriously.

Arguing with Jahgamer IQ with common sense never works lol

Anyone who thinks a game with 40-60 hour main quest, followed by 200+ hours of content, follow on story, new levels, new crafting mechanics, new engine, new map is DLC and not a sequel knows nothing about games. Theres nothign else to it.

Nintendo and everyone else calls it a sequel.

Miyzaki the creator of Elden Ring calls Fromsofts DLC this year…DLC.

"I would say the story itself was something that we were hoping to originally put in the base game, but it just didn't work out and didn't fit," Miyazaki said. "As a result, Miquella's entire story arc, which is part of the original lore, is something that the DLC explores quite thoroughly."

Either, game of the year is gonna be Astrobot, Final Fintasy 7Remake or Elden Ring DLC lol. All either PS exclusives, or part owned by Sony. There is no loss for Playstation here, only Astrobot and Final Fantasy not getting what they deserves.

Doesnt matter what some retartd online thinks a game isnt DLC or is DLC. The creators clearly say whats what. Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree is DLC, and TOTK is a Full game and sequel

Plenty of expansions add and continue or create new stories. Plenty of expansions have way bigger sweeping evolutions to gameplay, which Totk had not much of unless you consider a trash loot system like fuse.

Nintendo gets away with lack of criticism because it’s Nintendo and can literally sell their consumers cardboard.

There is nothing done in Totk that couldn’t have been an expansion but the reality is the switch isn’t the tech for it.

You wanna add 40-60 hours of story, 200 hours of extra content. New crafting and physics mechanics, new engine, new sound system, new maps and levels to DLC…

Please give an example of these plenty of expansions and DLC that have done this in a single player game. I cant think of one

- plenty of new mechanics and gameplay

Play more games. You describing every online game that does more major sweeping changes to their game in a year than Zelda did with a copy annd paste rehash over 5 years of development. Then again I notice you have to asterisk the debate with “single-player games.”

Totk could have easily been an expansion and continue Botw and layered all these changes into the game.

Nor is this a slight against it. That’s what most sequels are; looking at Spider-man 1 behind rehashed 2x over already.

You can’t play the DLC before beat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg… it is story tied… it is influenced by the main events lore… you can’t access it before.

And the events happens before you beat the Elden Beast… I know From Software allowed to you to access the DLC after beat the Elden Beast but that is just to not lock the DLC for these that already beat it and choose to continue without start a NG+… it was purely a game design decision and not a lore one.

But the events happens before… it is part of Elden Ring’s lore.
