The Series S/X are getting cheaper while the PS5 is getting more expensive

Without knowing any of the financials', market analysis, trends etc, id say it seems to me xbox has reached a certain saturation point where it needs deals to sell. Halo infinite was a fart in the wind that lasted a week maybe and thats the last major game xbox has had since gears 5, which also was a dud. Id assume xbox is taking on major losses with these deals, I just wonder how long the leash is until daddy says its time to stand on your own and make a profit? Its not that the console itself is bad, but you buy consoles for games, not twitter and message board clout.

They’ve also been quiet as hell this year. Outside of the Activision news and the showcase we havent really heard much from them or any of their bigger games. I honestly don’t know what xbox fans even have to talk about

Im not saying xbox doesnt have real life fans, but the people that argue on twitter day in day out are astroturfed, xbox ambassador shills. Speaking of big games, notice how starfield completely dropped off the radar once it was revealed.

Well thats the problem with talking up the game like its gonna “define a generation” or whatever nonsense they were going on about while Bethesda was still showing concept art. At the end of the day its a Bethesda game, they hit their ceiling already.

They put too much hopes and dreams on BGS

Yup the Series consoles are offering a superior value and those lower prices will certainly make it much easier to reach a wider audience.
I recognize that it's not the same situation per say, but the xbone was heavily discounted much earlier than the ps4... They don't do these price cuts because they want to make it easier for little Timmy to get the latest console, they want Timmy's money.

Now, Xbox is selling about on par with PlayStation so far this gen, so it may just be an attempt to gain momentum.

Cheaper does not mean better value. Value is determined by what you’re getting in exchange for that money. I thought XSX was a poor value because it has nothing worth keeping the system for. So I got rid of it.

The PS5 and switch are MUCH better values than the series consoles at any price, because what they offer you to spend your time on is superior by a large margin. Time is your most valuable asset. Even a free console that offers you nothing but garbage in exchange for your time is a bad value. And that’s where the series consoles currently land.
You know Darkmage has to put his positive green twist in support of his company. When I read "better value" I laughed then rolled my eyes when I looked at the name of the poster 😂😂😂

Game consoles to a casual gamer or a kid see the value as objective. When you see the price and find out you can still play all your favorite games from Fortnite to CoD with faster load times you'll grab the cheaper option. When MS still charged for online play on free games there was an objective value add on PlayStation. That is no longer true. You can play Fortnite without downloading it and for free on XSS. Can the more expensive PlayStation do that? Objectively better.
For just $100 more you get access to the best PS 1st party exclusives, way better performance, an innovative controller the Dualsense and more storage out of the box

You're gonna need more storage fast with the Xbox Series S and that's going to cost you over $100

The memory card is completely OPTIONAL. Don't want one don't buy it. As an aside it also offers more flexibility than the PS5 storage options lack.

You made some decent points in that post (even if a lot of them are debatable) but this one is just flat-out not true. If you have a PC or a laptop that needs a replacement SSD, and you're upgrading the one in your PS5, you can easily place the old SSD in that PC or laptop.

Or, you can sell it to a much bigger audience because more people have any mixture of PCs, laptops and PS5s than they do Series consoles, which are the only consumer devices that really use its CF Express-format expandable storage cards.

That's also more opportunities to get money for that SSD, something Series' storage option does not provide. The only advantage Series' SSDs have is easy memory card-style plug-and-play, but that doesn't mean much in practice since most households will not have more than one Series console, not many gamers these days go to a buddy's house IRL to do couch co-op, and neither Series system is exactly portable. It's a neat marketing bullet point but in real-world usage probably has little traction.

Thats because you don't actually understand value. You're thinking in terms of pure speeds and feeds per dollar spent. I'm getting X amount of power and Y amount of ram blah blah blah. None of that matters, and that is not value unless you are comparing like for like (such as when building a PC and shopping for parts of nearly identical quality). What matters is the experience you get from your purchase. That's why something that is more expensive can have a better value to the person who is paying the money. Because they are getting what they actually want from their purchase. That's why a fantastic meal at a high end restaurant can actually be a "better value" than a crappy cheap meal from an all you can eat buffet. The latter of which being essentially what Xbox is now trying to be.

You're also mistaking that people are purely price conscious for the fact that people WANT. GAMES. They don't buy a console so that it can sit there and they can think about how many teraflops it has or think about "the best deal in gaming" they got with a bunch of games they dont want to play that they have to pay forever for (unless of course you were smart enough to do the conversion trick and arent really paying anything at all). That's why people will spend 350 dollars for a Switch OLED but not 499 for a system that is what ... 20x the power? Think about that. And considering just how much the Switch is smashing the Xbox in terms of sales, and the fact it does consistently, it means buyers are happy with their purchase.

So between the Switch and the XSX which system do you think consumers would say has given them "better value" for their money? I know what the answer is. And I think you do too. You just don't want to admit it.

Yeah, DarkMage is arguing for value from a POV that's mainly academic and monetary, but by that notion, we wouldn't need consoles or Steam at all. Newgrounds has games for free, surely that is the pinnacle of value right?

Value is ultimately subjective and sometimes there is a thing as being too cheap. To the point where people may perceive there isn't enough quality there or a product is failing, because of such quick price reductions. I don't think Xbox is at that point tbh, but it is a bit weird seeing Series S and even Series X units regularly priced below MSRP across several retailers, even here in America apparently.

So I mean it's either a way to cover for softening demand, or price-fixing. The latter being such a serious violation it's almost ridiculous to suggest it. Plus with MS having already sunk so much money into Xbox the past few years I don't think they'd want to sacrifice even more by pricing essentially new consoles notably below MSRP, if they could see the market was willing to buy them at MSRP.

People need to learn that just because something it's cheap does not mean it's good value.

???? You keep mentioning XBox BC as a must-have feature and then you say this 🤔 The PS4 library is also vastly superior to the Xone so I'm not sure why you think people would choose the Xbox BC over PS5 BC.
You probably didn't know this but Xbox BC extends BEYOND last generation. I can pop in a game from 2005 and play it on my Xbox right now. My PS5 can't even READ my Wild Arms disc. Shocked and amazed Sony is charging $10 for me to play a game I already own. That alone is proof enough of the superior BC on Xbox.

What new games are coming out on GP (or even Xbox) that you can't play on PS5? You mean those random small indies? The PS5 also had lots of new exclusives this year so what you say doesn't make sense.
Game pass value isn't necessarily in the exclusives, it has those too, but in the ability for me to play games on the service that cost me extra to play on PS5. The PS5 is fundamentally more expensive to play games on because Sony regularly nickels and dimes you for things that Xbox gives for no additional cost.

What are those games available now on GP that makes you "completely disagree" about the value PS+?
As I have stated before game library is subjective. There is no point in getting in a list war with you. I prefer the fact Game pass has regular, brand new releases on the service. PS+ generally does not. That alone is the difference maker.

But what do you want exactly from your PS5 that makes you so frustrated? Day 1 AAA on PS+? That's pretty much the only thing missing. Just get rid of it at this point.
I'll keep my PS5 for the rare exclusive I'd like to play. I have no problem admitting Sony makes a good game from time to time I just don't like many of their other policies(paid cloud saves, monopolistic digital game prices, poor backwards compatibility features, fees for game upgrades, etc) so I'll do the majority of gaming on the platform that respects my time and money. Maybe you should expand your horizons.

Actually, it doesn't. My argument is perfectly sound, I just used an extreme example. You just have ZERO counter arguments, so you become salty. Is it not on the Xbox Shill manual?
I could call you a Sony shill but childish name calling is a waste of my time. Look at your previous posts if you are talking about zero counter arguments. You are the absolute definition of salty my friend and its pretty sad.

Better value =/= being able to buy something. If I need a family car and the auto seller only has a Sports car, the sports car doesn't suddenly become the better value proposition just because it's the only available one.
I clearly stated better value was a combination of price AND availability PLUS A lower over cost of entry to play games immediately. The price of the PS5 DE gets you games AND the XSS, assuming you aren't paying scalper prices. It is not a better value plain and simple especially to the target audience of the XSS; kids and casual gamers.

You made some decent points in that post (even if a lot of them are debatable) but this one is just flat-out not true. If you have a PC or a laptop that needs a replacement SSD, and you're upgrading the one in your PS5, you can easily place the old SSD in that PC or laptop.

You are making the same academic arguments you are accusing me of. First off the memory card is optional that is a fact not opinion. Secondly it absolutely can do things the Sony solution can't. That is also a fact. Third it can be argued the higher cost of the card is countered by the fees Sony charges gamers for things I mentioned earlier(paid cloud saves, monopolistic digital game prices, poor backwards compatibility features, fees for game upgrades, etc.) The difference of course is the card is a one time fee. The things I mentioned about Sony last the entire generation. It so assumes the card will never drop. We'll see if that ever happens. Fourth the average PS5 owner is not buying expanded storage to one day install it into some future PC they will build. You have to know that is pretty unlikely. What is far more likely is that I can pop out my Xbox memory card go to my friends house and play all the games I brought over easily. Sony's solution will NEVER allow that.

Price drops were a normal occurrence during a console game cycle. It was about getting the systems to a mass market impulse buy territory. It is mostly Sony and certainly Nintendo that have opted to make gaming MORE expensive. I don't like that trend.

I actually knew that but does it matter if there is no game worth replaying? You said it yourself that you don't play these old games. I would just get the digital version instead of messing with my old discs.
As I have stated before game library is subjective. There is no point in getting in a list war with you. I prefer the fact Game pass has regular, brand new releases on the service. PS+ generally does not. That alone is the difference maker.
Of course you don't want to list any. I'm fully aware of the "brand new releases on GP". They are PS4 ports and cheap indies you would never buy or play. I have tons of them already. PS+ also have good ones like Bloodstained, Dead Cells, Children of Morta, Hollow Knight etc.
Any examples? The only one I can think of is GT7 but you already had a PS5 so I'm not sure why you would get the PS4 version. You're also not talking about exclusives so it must be some 3rd-party 🤔

If it's on Game Pass then you also don't own it and that's why you would have to pay for it on PS5? Not sure why you blame Sony for that.
I'll keep my PS5 for the rare exclusive I'd like to play. You're all about getting a deal but you don't subscribe to PS+? It's weird to always bring up paid cloud saves or monopolistic prices (it's for retailers really). All your complaints are stuff that doesn't matter that's why it always feels fake.

Games don't have to be brand new to be considered a big deal on PS+

I would think Demons Souls and Returnal are considered bigger and higher quality than anything on GP for a while.

To many, these two alone are the best of the best on PS5 because they aren't cross gen with PS4 and they were highly anticipated.

I haven't played either one yet but am looking forward to it. The value is subjective game can be played all night but if we asked 100 new PS5 owners about these games they would probably think they are a big deal.

My point is games don't need to be brand new to be system/service sellers.

Exactly! They keep saying Day 1 is all that matters for "value" but the indies are not worth $10 and all the PS4 ports they are getting are always 80% off on PSN.

Crash 4, Tony Hawk, Trials of Mana, Stray and FF7R don't have any value? Can't wait for the spin if they ever reach GP. Full hypocrisy.

Sucks for them that Death Stranding is coming to GP. That game has no value.

Sony is handicapped by huge demand and hardware shortages.

Series S is not a next gen console. So what if they’re sitting in shelves.

Saying their selling similarly is bullshit. Series S is just another super turbo last gen machine competing for the same players as last gen. It competes with PS4 pro/one x at if anything.
