  • The Last of Us Part 2 sold 10 million copies in total.
  • In comparison, The Last of Us Remaster sold 18 million units, 8 million more than Part 2.
  • The upcoming remaster of Part 2 could help bridge this gap to an extent.
This data comes from the latest Insomniac leaks, confirming the sales figures for various PlayStation games, including Bloodborne’s total sales.

The report states PlayStation sold 18 million units of The Last of Us Remastered. This is a major difference, and it only becomes larger when counting the 8 million sales of the original PS3 version.

The first game sold 26 million units in total, but Sony has yet to provide figures for its sequel beyond 10 million sales. While the date from the leaks might be a few months old, it shows a massive difference.

Still, much of this difference comes from the long shelf-life of the first game. Part 2 has been on the market for just three years, while the first game is nearing its 11th anniversary.

The Last of Us Part 2 had many strengths. Many consider the story more gripping and emotional than the first game’s. It was also a more ambitious title, lasting twice as long as the first game. Still, parts of the game were not as well received. Many players did not like the fact that Naughty Dog tried to do too many things at once. This resulted in a lack of proper character development, leading to less memorable characters.
Despite its flaws, The Last of Us Part 2 was a juggernaut for PlayStation.

The game went through a major sales surge after a successful TV adaptation earlier this year. It also held the record for most Game of the Year awards, only beaten by Elden Ring in 2022.

Thats insane. Thats means the series is near 45 million before the remaster of 2 drops

I mean after a decade and being the most bundled first party game ever that's to be expected.

The Last of Us 2 sales probably shows the true die hard base for the franchise and I'm sure it's sold over 11 million by now.

The sales for the game is excellent.

I thought 20 millions combined both PS3+PS4

Edit : Nevermind. I didnt realize it is for 2019. That means it sold 8 millions after 3 years.

I didn't even liked Horizon, crazy how much it sold.

GT5 being by far the best PS3 game is also crazy to me, and GT Sports sold even better. GT is a huge IP.

This list shows how important selling consoles is, Uncharted 2 only sold 6m despite being huge for Sony and the PS3.

Many people that bought TLOU Remastered double dipped. Also many of those TLOU Remaster sales were bundled.

Where it’s at.

I will never get the complete lack of comprehension of the concept of time shown in sales conversations sometimes.

Between the whole "OMG, the sequel to a game that came out 6 years ago hasn't sold as many copies!" and the bizarre failure to comprehend that games sell for more than the first month they are out, sometimes I think basic reasoning has completely died out.

Not a reliable comparison.

~1.8 years
TLOU2 as Spring 2022: Over 10 million

~4.8 years
TLOU as Spring 2018: Over 17 million

We can compare the TLOU2 sales with more 3 years before talk about who sold more.

Can TLOU2 sells more 7 million from Spring 2022 to Spring 2025? We lack 2023 sales and in January launches the remastered version of TLOU2.

Not Jim Ryan's fault lol. Quantic Dream had some serious internal conflict that landed them in court because of sexual harassmentsm and other stuff.

Sony of course cut ties with them because that's what they do best to their partners once the slightest instance of trouble arises.

Quantic Dream is sorely missed this generation.

So instead of getting rid and clean of the perpetrators from the office..sony would rather getting rid of / entirely cutting ties with their mutual partner for years and losing another first party developer partnership...doesnt seems like a wise decision...

This gen we already lost hideo kojima, quantic dream, ready at dawn, etc
