Oh man, the copium is high with this one. Mommy got you an appointment at a shrink for next week? Maybe a little group therapy session with the other troglodytes?

They are baffled people figured out their strategy once the first moves leaked. Many people, myself included, had figured out this was the inevitable outcome the moment the Series flopped and they went and bought Bethesda.

Xbox is just too small and going nowhere because they trained the few people that stuck to into not buying games. All the bad momentum from Xbox exposes the Gamepass strategy as well as it is much harder for it to grow outside of Xbox and once it becomes clear it will never be big enough to justify all they have invested in it.

Nobody should be expecting all ports to be announced next week, what we will see are the first steps in their plan to discontinue Xbox as we know it.

Given the massively negative reaction they are probably trying to roll back or spins this but it's way too late now, Xbox died the moment they allowed the rumors to take over the narrative.
Even if there is a way to slow walk this back, they still need to sell on PlayStation. A hifi rush port and SOT isn’t going make them money imo. They either need to commit or don’t. According to sneaker so the dev kits are already ordered so even if they slow walk it’s all or to quell their rabid insane cult base.

BTW.

What Jason said?
Him being mute just tells me that most of things these "insiders" are saying are not accurate at all :D

When you see a Bloomberg article striking it means the truth is finally revealed.
How could Jason know anything if MS doesn't seem to know what they are doing. They are clearly considering every option to try and salvage their gaming division and stop the bleeding.

What they are doing isn't working at all so they need to change things up and don't have very many options in how to do it. They can't simply decide to start making quality games and properly manage their studio, they haven't been able to do it in 25 years and they now need to make up for multiple failed generations in a row.

"Next week" wasn't for them to figure out how to present the message, it was for them to figure out what the message was. They can now go back and say it's only Hi-fi Rush and Sea of Thieves but people know better than that, they game Xbox it's death blow last week. It had no momentum already and now it's dead.

Yes, this is the big point fanboys keep "forgetting". The company ordered PS5 dev kits. It's on.

What we know is that Xbox Series + Gamepass doesn't work as is. Something is going to change, what options do they even have at this point besides giving up on Xbox and betting on Bethesda + ABK selling their games everywhere else?

It's either Xbox going third party or the end of every one of their games being day 1 on Gamepass, possibly both.

Or both indeed which I assume.

Here's the thing, though. Even if they do remove day one GP releases, they lose subscribers. Then you have a userbase that's been conditioned to not buy games, at least not full price. How do you reverse that?

And to top it all off, their user base is not big enough to support major releases. They're getting outsold 2:1. The old MS could just soak those losses up and keep trucking. However, that seems to be over now.

I'm not saying it's going to work out for them, to me they are likely doomed no matter what specially if they allow Phil Spencer to hang around. Dude has been sabotaging Xbox chances for over 15 years at this point.

- They are not good at all at making games and managing studios.
- Bethesda, Activation and Blizzard are all in a sorry state.
- On the MS studio side the studios they acquired in 2019 have been extremelly unproductive and their old IPs like Halo, Gears and Forza have been milked to death.
- The Series S strategy blew up in their face and Xbox has no momentum and no success this gen.
- The Series X supposedly better hardware didn't manage to consistently outperform the PS5 at all.
- Gamepass has stagnated and they don't seem to be able to expand it outside Xbox (where they benefit from paid online).
Their store on PC still sucks and nobody seems to care about xCloud.
- Now they have their worst PR disaster since the Xbox One reveal and even their most hardcore fans are turning on them.

Where can they even go from here? Pulling a Sega seems like the only reasonable out they have to not end up bleeding more money for years to come. Even that is not a guarantee since the lack of quality of their games won't have PlayStation and Nintendo fans lining up to buy their games just like Xbox and PC players didn't.

What's the point of porting these two specific games to PS5? What does Microsoft gain by porting only those two games? Are they gonna move the needle in their favor? Are they gonna make people jump into Game Pass for some reason? Sea of Thieves, well, maybe. It's a live service game, so more people means more MTX. But Hi Fi Rush? Microsoft will earn some money from the sales of the game and that's it.

That's why I don't buy the current "no, wait, actually, nevermind, false alarm!". It feels contrived. Damage control-ish. Not to mention a whole range of other signs pointing at something bigger. They could be a coincidence, yes, sure. Hell of a coincidence.

Nathan Drake is now a Xbox insider? I wouldn't believe him or Super Mario regarding this topic. I think Master Chief or Marcus Fenix are more reliable regarding this.

It doesn't matter what these pseudo insiders say, if MS is planning to bring hi fi rush and SoT to the competition it's to test the ground in terms of sales because things are going very badly on xbox, we know very well that they start with small/medium games but over time the other games will follow if they see that it's selling with the competition, and we all know that once the pandora's box is opened it's over.

However, I have to admit that it's nice to see the naivety of xbots trying to reassure themselves otherwise

To make profit to recoup the money they lose by putting all their games and some 3rd party ones day one on GP, the almost $100B they spent in acquisitions plus the one they lose by selling hardware.

But obviously won't be only those two games. These ones may be the first two ones to be announced or that have been leked.

And well, to acquire Zenimax and ABK to lock their console games on Xbox and give them away day one on a sub is a finantial suicide. They are a company, so want to generate as much revenue as possible and to be profitable instead.

This means to expand to mobile and PC, but also in consoles (specially with Zenimax and Bethesda) to expand to rival consoles because it's where the money for these kind of games is.

Yeah, that's my point: it makes no sense to port lesser games and not the bigger ones. If you're doing it for the money, then you should go all in. If not, you're only creating confusing and distrust for your brand. Hi Fi Rush ain't gonna recoup any costs derived from the ABK acquisiton, not even from the Zenimax one. That's why I believe that they'll slowly (or not that slowly) transition to basically a third-party publisher. They'll keep doing their hardware for the near-to-mid future, but they'll increase their offering of back catalog games on PS and Switch over time and new games will start shipping on all platforms sooner rather than later. They'll probably do a limited exclusivity for Game Pass reasons, but then they'll sell those games day-and-date on PS.

With the way Xbox has been managed for 15 years, though... it wouldn't surprise me at all if they are indeed just porting those two games and think it's a master stroke.
