It would be interesting and more fair to compare PS5 or Switch US launch aligned sales vs launch aligned sales of the other consoles in the same launch aligned amount of months than the PS5 and Switch has been on sale, what the other consoles sold in all their entire lifetime.

Pretty good overall considering how dire things were with the PS5 for awhile....but also shows how well the PS4 era was that many were so excited to jump back in.

But can they retain the momentum? After December that's when we'll see how well oiled Jim Ryan's leadership is.

For some reason I just can't bring myself to be too excited over these sales numbers anymore. My biggest question in the near-term has already been answered: is XBS tracking below XBO? And the answer is yes, but this stuff today is just confirmation of what some of us were speculating almost a full year ago. Same goes with the recent changes to Game Pass; it's just confirmation of things we speculated way back but got shat on, because, I guess, it "wasn't the right time".

At least WRT the American market, these sales only become notable again for me if either: XBS starts tracking well ahead of XBO, or PS5 starts tracking below PS4 when supply isn't the issue. If either of those happen and sustain for a long enough period, that should open up some new dialog. Otherwise it's just the usual: Sony & Nintendo are generating big sales, Sony's making some gains on MS in their strongest market, MS are losing market share in the U.S and globally.

*please note VGChartz is known to not be a reliable source hence forums shy away from using their data. Take with a grain of 🧂

it's great numbers, PS5 might end the lifecycle with more than 120 million consoles sold (PS4 sold 118 million), i predict PS5 might surpass 130 million units sold because this is the first generation since the 7th that we'll have a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto franchise, and Sony will 100% have the marketing rights for it, since they had the marketing rights for the current gen version of GTA V (PS5), Red Dead 2, GTA V (PS3 and PS4) GTA IV, GTA San Andreas, GTA Vice City and GTA 3

GTA 6 WILL HAVE a MAJOR effect on console sales, and with the marketing being made on the PS5 + the console already being the place 90% of the casuals go for multiplats, expect big numbers for the PS5 in 2025, specially with the Pro version that will most likely be able to run it at 60fps.

the PS5 version of GTA 5 had exclusive benefits for PS4/5 players (GTA Online for PS5 was given 100% for free for PS Plus Essential subscribers to keep forever on their libraries + 1M for GTA Online cash every month for almost 2 years at no additional cost), if Sony makes a GTA 6 exclusive quest like they did for Hogwarts Legacy last year, i predict them really surpassing 135/140M consoles sold when it's all said and done
