  • Until Dawn's debut is 28.6% smaller than Concord's
  • The PlayStation Studios horror game saw 98.5% fewer players than The Last Of Us Part 2 Remastered
  • The small pool of PS5 players could be down to the lack of marketing

Using a gameplay data sample from over 3.1 million active PSN accounts (courtesy of our partnership with GameInsights, which draws the majority of its PSN data from sources beyond TrueTrophies), we've been able to track the debut player count of every new PS5 and PS4 game released throughout the year.

Things are not looking good for Until Dawn, despite the original game being well-received on PS4, the PS5 remaster has failed to find an audience. The game has underperformed so badly, that even Sony's refund-worthy Concord release had a better PS5 debut. Until Dawn's PS5 debut saw 28.6% fewer PS5 players than Concord, which is shocking to see.

You guys are becoming tiring.

Let's see what this does after the movie comes out probably this summer and again when it ends up streaming on Netflix next October. Especially once this drops in price.

Like clearly you don't understand the following

  • Concurrent users is not a good benchmark for sales, certainly not long term sales
  • PC games don't need to sell numbers at launch
  • These PC ports do not need to recoup the entirety of development costs, simply the port costs
  • Sony's transmedia strategy is the big reason for these remakes/remasters
  • This game was not super expensive for Ballistic Moon to develop and for Sony to publish
  • This is how you test out new studios, not every game is going to be successful, especially the first attempts for a studio, but this is how you build out your 1st and 2nd party relationships in a cost effective manner
    • This is not a new strategy for Sony
As for Ballistic Moon, Sony is probably done with them, hence why they've laid off half their staff. Probably just enough to do some maintenance on the game. Ultimately it is a shame, it would have been a good opportunity for them to have brought this to PSVR2.

BHWAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAAH, The delulu to think that a shitty movie will catapult this game's sales one year down the line lmao.

The dumb retarded asinine decisions taken in 2018-2020 will come home to roost in the next couple of years, There is no Covid lockdowns, interest free money to bail out Herman' sorry ass.

The movie that's like 10 years too late, and doesn't even have the Heroes cheerleader used for character likeness in the game, in the film? Sit down, goofy.

Sony should have had their transmedia strategy in the PS3 era and carried it through PS4/5, back when Dafoe, Page, Heroes cheerleader were front and center in their game line ups.

What's the obsession with Until Dawn here? Lol

Game is amazing. It's probably getting a sequel and there's an upcoming movie.

Get over it.

All these random remasters are weak excuses to make PC ports. They gave up on their platform for terrible PC sales that make zero profit.

No hype for PlayStation releases anymore, weak PS5 sales every quarter because everything is on PC, there's no rush to get one. They are following Sega and Xbox if they don't reverse course.

Use transmedia and movies to sell your own platform to new customers instead of Steamdeck. Imbeciles.

You think Hayden P. is a big box office draw? What are her biggest box office results? Her not being in the movie has no material impact on whether this is successful or not.

I do agree that Sony should have had their transmedia strategy in place earlier. I suggested exactly that in the early 2000s. Particularly around Jak and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank, but it was particularly a time when Sony Pictures and Sony Computer Entertainment did not collaborate.

I thought they should have gotten the license to make Bond games when they had distribution rights from MGM.

That said, it's never too late to do the right thing.

They don't actually care about Until Dawn. That's why OP brought up Concord in the title to illicit more clicks.

You just have sony PS fanboys who are REALLY angry about PC ports and hope that they fail so Sony stops making them. Spoiler alert, it's nearly impossible for a PC port to fail and Sony isn't going to stop making them.

It was the best example of story-based horror from this style of game. The Dark Pictutes Anthology were never as pollished, or as tight, as when Sony helped Supermassive nuture Until Dawn from PS3 Move game to PS4. The Quarry seemed to come closest, but that game was supposed to be UD2 and had Sony's support initially.

This "remake" changes scene tone/color settings, doesn't look vastly better, just different/worse. And I cant say I ever saw people asking for UD1 Remake. UD2/other games in this style to the level of UD's pollish? Sure thing.

The remake for PC crumbs money has sullied the previous best example we had from the genre. Thanks Jim/Herman Era.

The game is good, a sequel is good, a movie not sure, and a remake was definitely a bad idea so we're laughing at it.
