I bet Phil is there to negotiate something for the rest of Final Fantasy. This looks bad on Sony actually after losing Bethesda and Activision. Square is not exclusive anymore.

Once again we find out that Jim Ryan/Sony don't care about anything beside short term profit, this is MS probably doing to SE what they did to Sega. Sony seems fine to just be a third party publisher for Xbox and PC 10 years from now, their loss.

I wouldn’t be surprised if MS acquires Square soon.

I can even see the narrative "Sony tried to buy exclusives so we had to buy SE", I would not feel bad for Sony to be honest.

XIV was announced for Xbox all the way back when all the legacy games were announced for Game Pass in 2019. The team just deprioritized it until now.

Do you remember that Bethesda made exclusive contractos with Sony before being bought by Microsoft? This means nothing. Also, wording is key. They’ll be porting games “whenever possible” (when MS gives us the porting and gamepass checks).
Sounds pretty ominous for MS.

Then Sony is dumb to not leverage their partnerships, Sony should be making these publishers pick a side.

It pretty simple for Sony to say something like "we are not interested in working closely with companies that are also associating with our direct competitor". No more money for exclusives if they keep getting close to MS.
