Will 2024 be the first year PS Studios don't release a new single player game?

As the title says. Will Playstation Studios release a new single player game this year?

I cant remember a time when this happened. Maybe the PS2 era. Or early PS3?

Playstation Studios are some of greatest studios in the industry.
Why has Sony given the funds for only Insomniac to work on multiple projects at once?

Or do you think Sony has a secret game coming out this year?
Rumours of an Astrobot game have been floating around which would be great for both PS5 and PSVR2.

If new games are taking so long to make, how should Sony handle this?

-Expand there studios like they have with
Insomniac to make multiple projects? (This clearly hasnt happened)

-Buy more studios?

-Buy a Publisher?

-Create more studios (this hasnt gone well recently)

-Create more in house AA games?

The excuse of 3rd party games and 1st/3rd party exclusives will cover the PS5 is not a good enough reason.
Sony most of the time in the last 2 decades has always had a good mix of PS studio games and other exclusives released every year

I think Sony hoped that Helldivers 2, Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin would be able to alleviate the lack of big games

No because concord is releasing and ps studios is publishing Stella blade and they released helldivers2 and an Astrobot is rumor to drop this yr . We also have until dawn remake and the gravity rush 2 remaster but those aren’t new 🤷🏽‍♂️. By the end of the yr ps will have published more games in 2024 than 2023.

They won't buy more studios/publishers. Totoki said that acquisitions costs would ease next fiscal year. Besides their investors are already whining about decreased profit margins.

PlayStation Studios published Risoe of the Ronin and Stellar Blade.
There not PS studios games. Not talking about publishing games or 1st party. PS studios etc. Santa Monica, Media Molecule, Bend, Naughty Dog, Bluepoint etc etc

With this potential reality and how passionate many of you are for PlayStation how would you react to this scenario.

Horizon Forbidden West PC (Released)
Ghost of Tsushima PC (May)
The Last of Us: Part II PC (Rumored 'soonish')
God of War: Ragnarok PC (Rumored late 2024/ Early 2025)
PlayStation VR2 PC (2024 confirmed)

If this ends up being their end all be all 2024 from them directly and nothing else what is the reaction?

That doesn’t mean anything. That just means they won’t be buying anything major. They hired new staff specifically for m&a last summer. Saying m&a cost will ease doesn’t mean they have zero interest in buying anyone or if opportunity comes along they won’t take it. Totoki has also repeatedly said consolidation is a driving force for growth in the entertainment industry right now and ip acquisition is very important. He also said in may Sony would be aggressively pursuing m&a strategy and he floated the idea of spinning off the financial services division which could possibly raise 8-10billion for m&a deals. He specifically said he doesn’t want Sony to be left behind why everyone else is engaged in m&a in the entertainment industry. If a deal comes along and ps real wants it they will go for it.

Shame because having more games under the umbrella equals more profits. That or sell more consoles to sell more games.
If they had bought FromSoft or another studio or publisher who is selling good games they would make more profit

Ah, Concord is going to be the next "big" game from PlayStation Studios, but we have almost nothing about the game, which is strange, since there was supposed to be at least one Gameplay to help with marketing

Your right and these are issues for the Playstation platform and for its fans. Its not good, they are making the console less important.
But lets discuss what PS studios are doing regarding there new games for PS5

Lets keep it to topic please, dont try and derail and make it about PC. The thread already has its own questions, make your own thread
It's on topic, it's directly discussing their 2024 and as you did yourself potential thoughts, things, and what you see as hopefully taking place.

Don't get fussy because the subject matter is uncomfortable for you. You want an inclusive forum? Invite inclusive and directly related discussion.

No I just dont want people arguing about PC stuff. The Opening post has enough questions. On how Sony should deal with there own PS studios and PS5

Make a thread about it and Ill join in there. Its a major issue with Playstation for me and there porting of PC games

Yeah it would be stupid for Sony to watch everyone else consolidate and be left behind. Clearly relying on new studios or building new ips isn’t going too well with so many cancellations and a closure.
They need to buy

Concord & Helldivers are live service that released on PC day 1, Stella blade & Rise of Ronin are “2nd party” likely to release on PC at a later date. Gravity Rush, Until Dawn & GOW1 remake are only being remake to be ported to PC.

A new Astro bot looks to be the only 1st party singleplayer game this year & that will be AA. Only 1 first party game on PS console is crazy & it being AA.

It’s looking like Sony will port 5+ PS games to PC from what we know Gravity Rush, Until Dawn, GOW1, TLOU2, GOT1, GT7, Demon Souls in 2024 & GOW ragnarok, SM2 likely for 2025. Hell with them putting PSVR2 on PC PSVR2 games like Horizon VR will likely be ported to PC allowing Quest to play PSVR2 exclusive

People need to stop making excuses for PS lack of exclusive & first party output. PS fans looking like Xbox fan back in the day. In 2023 PS only had 1 AAA first party singleplayer game in 2024 it looks like PS will have 0 AAA first party singleplayer games & with the only first party release being Helldivers 2, Concord (live service PC day 1) & a new Astro Bot which will likely be a AA $50 game. Then Sony shareholders worry why there year over year downwards spiral after 4 years while Nintendo in its 7th year going strong still pulling numbers on par w PS5, Switch sales slowing down but still impressive & strong number on par w a PS5 who’s going year over year downwards in its 4th year

Your right about everything. But now days Stellar Blade and ROR are counted as 1st party because Sony is publishing them. Why I specifically say PS Studios because people will make excuses and say Stellar Blade is 1st party now.

I hope we get Astrobot and Concord this year. We’re gonna be hitting year 4 and not having a major single player game in November is a bit weird

What if Astrobot is not only a sale item, but a code pack in to activate for your PSVR2 regardless of platform as a carrot for headset sales...
