Definitely not expecting it to a final nail in the coffin like many here are hoping for. Also expect some ports to be announced but things always seemed to have been blown outta proportion

Long form podcasts are the ideal format for PR messaging. Allows you to gently drop bad news through vague messaging and a long string of caveats and hedges. Also, you can have your PR and lawyers go through every second of the podcast before you drop it to protect yourself from any lawsuits.
All of this could’ve been done in an xboxwire blog post and it would’ve been much better. No amount of perfectly crafted corporate speak will help them save face. Going on video about it is going to be beyond embarrassing! This is a public humiliation ritual that will be in the gaming history books forever.

This must be Satya’s idea to punish them for years of incompetence.

Xbox 'podcast' is rushed and wasn't due this week at all so he's wrong.
It could be that since they wanted to talk about this later and the date got pushed up, a podcast format is a result of them needing something that can be produced quickly.

It’s a way for them to talk to the Xbox community?

Think some people were under the illusion that MS would be doing this for the PlayStation and Nintendo fans…

They would not hide any big clearly positive news in a podcast. I expect broad statements like "Xbox will still have exclusives", "we believe our best years in the console space are ahead of us", "we'll keep making consoles", etc, combined with the revelation of the first ports and possibly changes to Gamepass.

If it's a podcast, it minimises blowback from hardcore fans compared to if it were a video or livestream. No dislikes, negative comments, etc.

Something else too (and maybe already mentioned earlier ITT): doing it as a video podcast allows them to give more personable & relatable explanations to any of the decisions that've been made. Facial expression and tone of words used can convey emotions with subconscious psychological impacts that a straight-up text blog, or even a regular business meeting (i.e like the investor calls MS and other companies actually have for shareholders) can't deliver.

So basically, it can take someone who started off as staunchly mad and against the idea, to gradually being okay and say "You know what? That makes a lot of sense, and it ain't so bad!" once everything's done. It's also a way to leverage the cult of personality the heads at Xbox (especially Phil Spencer) have developed over the years, because when you put a human face on the news that those fans are otherwise happy to see, that makes it a lot harder for them to be mad/upset even if the details of the news itself would normally cause a very negative reaction from them otherwise.

In other words, the event's going to use a lot of the aforementioned for optics control and messaging of the news being delivered. But that doesn't mean the news in itself won't be significant. Quite the oppose, in fact; that's why Phil, Sarah and Matt are being featured in the podcast!
