Creating two differently specc'd consoles this gen was a disaster. Releasing 2+ configurations of 3rd party consoles won't work, unless that 3rd party is making one configuration.

The only non-console company in a position to even offer a console - and it be a benefit to them, is Valve.

Sony made around half a billion in revenue outside PS only in the last FY. And in the current FY is having an increase of over 50% vs the previous fiscal year. Each PC did cost them a couple millions, so they are making a ton of profit with PC.

Last month was their best selling one since the PS2 and they reached their biggest MAU ever, so they have their biggest active userbase everr. We also saw 50% of the PS5 consoles sold a year ago were to new users to the PS brand, they didn't have a PS4.

PS brand isn't being diluted, it's growing instead. They are making new fans in PC and some of them are buying the console, in a bigger number than the ones who may leave consoles.

That's a lot of mental breakdowns waiting to happen when they go 3rd party.

They have the nerve to say that the PlayStation subreddit is full of salt and anger at Xbox, but when I go on there they almost never even mention Xbox at all. It's a far cry from the constant PlayStation hate on the Xbox subreddit. They're also hyping up Microsoft's financial statements release on the 30th because they think it will show undeniable proof that Xbox is beating PlayStation by miles.

Brief aside:

Hardly anyone used the Windows CE in Dreamcast for commercial games, and the few examples that did were among the worst-performing games on the system at a technical level. The Sega Rally 2 Dreamcast port is still infamous for its relatively poor performance compared to other Dreamcast racing games like Daytona USA and Metropolis Street Racer.

Didn't a graph leak showing Xbox revenue eats into the red and the division generated no profit for them that quarter? I posted the image elsewhere, was just looking to see where the source was. The numbers for revenue and profits match the previous fiscal quarter results, tho.

Currently true about Valve, but MS could disrupt their plans by making a gaming interface that completes with SteamOS.

Multiple configurations, a lot more than 2, don't doom PC gaming. It doomed Xbox because of the parity clause and the idea that you have to release the same game on Series S if you want to publish on Series X. It means that developers targeting PS5 primarily had to scale down to Series S, which is basically Xbox One X.
