I still remember the moment that I was forced to bend the knee to playstation.

Back then I was a huge Nintendo fan N64 was my console of choice: Mario 64, Mario kart, golden eye, but favorite my game was perfect dark.
We would play with 3 or 4 people splitscreen, those were the days.

But the constant barrage of great games such as: FF7, FF8, FF9, Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo, Resident Evil 2, tekken 3, tony hawk 2.

There was no love, just great games.
Stopped being Nintendo fan after Rare left. Since then I sticked with playstation but I would only expect the best from them.

So join us, and play some great games. And get angry at playstation when they don't win the npd/circana hard enough. Or the game doenst have 6 atleast 120fps mode. Or a showcase only had 2 good games.

My breaking point for PS hardware will likely be the day they release a launcher on PC.

I won't move off PlayStation as my main platform tho. My profile history and 1000+ library means I'm there for life

It seems that you've bent the knee to Playstation in the past, and swapped consoles to play their games.

If Playstation were to ever exit the hardware market, but remain as a games publisher (the Sega strategy), would you bend the knee to a different hardware system to continue playing their games?

I think this is a pretty good take.

I think the worst outcome I could foresee is if they shuttered all their studios, and laid off all the developers. I wouldn't even know who was "right" at that point though, because so many things would've had to go disastrously wrong. Even if it got to that point, I would expect them to divest the studios to other publishers, if they truly could not continue to publish video games effectively.
No more exclusivity and everything Multiplat... Might as well discontinue the PlayStation hardware then.

My breaking point for playstation will be if any of the following happen:

1) non-contained advertisements in the UI (i.e. ads in store pages and related sections are ok)
2) unreasonable price increases - if I feel that they are no longer giving a good price to performance ratio.
3) day one on PC including 3rd party games I want eg final fantasy - I'll just play everything on my PC.
4) becoming owned by or affiliated with microsoft or apple

I think it would depend on whether they could manufacture dedicated gaming hardware at a price point for profitability. I think they probably could given their existing manufacturing chains, and decades of industry experience.

However, we are moving towards an ecosystem where users may choose to divest their hardware entirely, in favor of games streaming through services like GeForce Now, so they'd need to compete with that hyper low cost market.

I think Mark Cerny doesn't get enough credit, the ssd, kraken data compression, 3d audio, backwards compatibility, being able to run ps4(pro) games with higher framerates.

The controler with haptic feedback, trigger restistance.

The ps5 has been the best console I have ever owned. Hopefully that will change 7 november.

Objectively there is currently not even real competition. Reflected by 10 ro 1 ratio in Europe.

But that wasn't your question, ps4 Playstation games have been fantastic.

This generation hasn't been at that level.
GOW great game with a fantastic a story, might be best written villian.
Returnal great game, and that story is mind blowingly good.

And are others too, but for me it's about playing the best games. And if they are on another platform I would purchase it and play it. Ps5 doenst really have alternatives at the moment. If ps creates great experiences then i would buy them.

Like with Microsoft in regards to Xbox, it doesn't matter to me what Sony does in regards to PlayStation because I know that im going to get great games that I want to play and as long as they accomplish that which they have for the last eight years for me personally, I will always own a PlayStation console.

We all have differing opinions on this forum about the health and strategic direction of Sony and Playstation.

Some believe that Playstation is having the best generation ever, that revenue being the highest in PlayStation's history points to a healthy generation, console and future of the company.

Others believe that the PC ports, remasters, lack of new IPs, relatively poor adoption rates of the PS5, slowdown in hardware sales and focus on Xbox, third party, and GaaS are killing the brand.

Regardless of which camp you fall into, what would be the breaking point for you to say "I was wrong, the other side is correct" or, "this is definitive proof that playstation is/isn't doomed"?

If you're going to reply to this thread about how you're already correct, don't bother posting. I'm not interest in hearing people sniff their own farts. I want others to hear the varying opinions of what would change the minds of different opinions.

Modz halp in keeping this thread free of attacks on personal views, in the hope that we can all learn from one another. Aww, how nice. 🌈🦄☁️
What you mean by focus on Xbox?

Folks blame PC ports too much and that may trigger warriors most of all. But the true issue is relying on AAA too much. Nothing in PS pipeline gets me going. There is an over reliance on superhero games and AAA action adventure.

Sony will keep selling though because with Xbox dropping the ball there is no alternative if you want a modern console

Switch is anemic. Mid range - High end PC gaming requires more money and knowledge. Only enthusiast would bite. And steam deck is for existing steam users.

Sony could close all their studios and still sell 70M boxes. Folks are used to get the next numbered Playstation to play FIFA.

PlayStation was at its lowest point sometime in the 2018 - 2020 range. Completely without creative vision. Only making 3rd person, cinematic, narrative centric, walking sims.

Those were dark years. The sun is rising on house PlayStation.

If Nintendo stops being afraid of Sony, makes a powerful modern 'HOME' console with a modern online gaming component AND Sony releases ALL of its games day one on PC.

As I would just do Nintendo and PC.

I’d probably go PC only if all their games started hitting it with in a year. Too many of them end up on my favorite games of the generation list each gen for me to wait 2+ years for them. But I could probably stomach a year wait.

This is probably my last gen owning multiple consoles though. Have had PlayStation, Nintendo and Xbox every gen they’ve all been around. But being mid 40s I’m not gaming as much as I used too and it feels wasteful having multiple platforms since I can’t keep up with things I’d like to play on even one of them.

Sony has the best exclusives for my tastes so they’ve been my main for a long time, MS has less and less I really love (do really like Gamepass though as someone that doesn’t replay games and thus doesn’t care about buying/owning them). Nintendo I’ve fallen off from a lot the past few generations after growing up with NES and SNES. Just not as many games I loved from them from the Wii generation on—though that’s just that my tastes have changed as they obviously put out a ton of games that review well, win awards etc.

End of the day, I’ve got no loyalty to any of these platforms/corporations. I just like games, but feel more like simplyfying down to one platform after this gen. Be that PS6 or going PC if they’re porting with less delay from console release.

The hardware is good but I am beyond caring about their software side, I wont buy any games from their western first party studios - they are on the same list for me as ubisoft, xbox games going forward. This useless company will tank on the hardware side as well once Cerny retires or ditches them.

If they stop making consoles.

Don't care about Nintendo or Xbox. PC has too many flaws for me, ranging from small nitpicks to major issues.

What if Mark Cerny goes to a big player think apple or something. And his new console is better then ps6 like (ps5 pro vs series x)?
