It's rough out there. Linux and NVIDIA don't seem to mix well. I tried, I really wanted it to work, but they keep breaking the drivers, forcing you to fix them repeatedly. When it's your main PC, you have to deal with drivers breaking and being stuck at the lowest resolution until you fix it. Sometimes it's as easy(linux easy, so not easy at all) as reinstalling the drivers, but you can also end up being forced to reinstall the entire system.AMD GPUs didn't have these driver issues, but they're stepping away from the high-end segment.
Another issue for couch gaming is that the icons and mouse/keyboard setup don't work well.
So while it can work, it's not a smooth experience, and getting a GPU that runs 4K smoothly isn't cheap.
Then we have 'stuttergate' and the crash-to-desktop issues. Combined with the driver problem. It felt like a second job.
