And yet on PC you have to account for an HDD and shit hardware, plus all those optimisations, while on console you don't, and have a guaranteed SSD that allows for gamechanging mechanics.
Cerny went aggressive putting in a v4 nvme drive in the PS5. Most game-able PCs are probably on v3. But that's still a huge upgrade from the sata HDD in the PS4. I really doubt that v3 vs v4 is make or break in current gen game performance. And anyway, I think it's appropriate that devs just give a recommended i/o rating same as they do ram. If your PS5 port really needs 5000MB/s read speed, then just say it's required.

Yeah, incredible shit, buying a game that I want to play today so that I can wait for it to get better in a few months or years.

And it's not like patches are a thing on consoles, of course.
It is actually incredible to have a library of games I can not only go back to, but in new ways. On handhelds, with graphical enhancements, with multiplayer mods, in VR...

Playing games from the era of Spec Ops the Line or Sleeping Dogs on PC doesn't feel like retro gaming, because they scale up really nicely to 4k. With the same purchase I made 15 years ago.

As for patches, I think it's underrated what a mess Sony made charging serious money for next gen updates on PS5. It costs $10 to upgrade Ghost of Tsushimato PS5.

Where it’s at.
So, how will the Xbots who were insisting it was only a matter of time for day-and-date PC ports from PlayStation going to cope with this news?

I have every playstation. it would be nice if some of these games weren't trapped in a janky state for eternity while PC games from 2004 are getting ray tracing and AI-upscaled assets. if you don't want to play bloodborne with these kinds of enhancements, are you sure you really like playstation?

What does this have to do with your previously stated desire to have games release day and date with PC to maximise sales on PC? We have an example of that and what it does to a console platform. It's the Xbox, and it's about to be discontinued.

Xbox's death spiral started sometime around 2013, long before they started doing PC ports. It sounds like PC game pass subscribers are increasingly the thing keeping Xbox alive. MS releasing their games on Steam is one of the only good things they've done in 10 years.

Folks be dreamin if they believe porting PC games day and date to PC would make a console with a strong brand image like the PlayStation to dwindle in sales.

Xbox sells less because:

1 It's brand image it's always been too 'murrican And around the globe many people find that to be repulsive. Also lacking true global prescense until the late 360 era.

2 Massive HW failures like RROD made them lose momentum on the 360 era.

3 Screwing up on first party since the late 360 era with some exceptions.

4 Why TF would you release a console with mandatory Kinect that nobody wanted?

Sony never screwed up as much, and when they did, they course corrected within the 7th gen to get with strong momentum to the launch of the ps4.

PC GP isn't keeping Xbox alive; it's putting more money in Microsoft's coffers. Two separate things. The Series X/S is tracking behind the Xbone, and is likely to finish below the original Xbox at 24 million by the time it's discontinued. If this doesn't tell you what an aggressively exclusive-free strategy--replete with their chief exec stating that games don't move hardware--does to a console, nothing will.

Folks be dreamin if they think dealing with the headache of releasing a game on PC these days is worth it. Plenty of devs besides Sony also delay their releases on PC like R* for example. R* probably knows a thing or too about selling games.

This has nothing to do with Xbox.

PC Gamepass is even less relevant than Xbox Gamepass, nobody wants to use that garbage MS store. PC gaming is pretty much synonym with Steam at this point and that is a good thing.

It's impossible to draw this conclusion when Xbox is just not putting out games at all. If Xbox 1st party heavy hitters were consistently selling gangbusters on PC, while Xbox hardware and software languishes, you'd have a story. Xbox hasn't had heavy hitters for a long time.

Did it hurt the PS4 that many 3rd party "exclusives" were day and date on PC? I'm talking about No Man's Sky, Street Fighter V, Nioh 2, Nier Automata as examples. Did millions of people abandon the platform in favor of their computers?

Your arguments live up to the “flaccid” portion of your name.

Entitled PCHR dopes just live in a logic-free world, I guess.

Exactly. This and the acquisition threads have convinced me some people live in a bizarro world where logic doesn't exist and they just force their feelings into what they present as facts.

A large part of it comes from people having no idea what the difference is between revenue and profit.

I’ve seen people argue that MS will NEVER kill XBox because of how much revenue it generates, which is hilarious.

Yep... some folks just don't get it. If you are on a gaming forum you are an enthusiast, hell even extreme enthusiast. You are not the bulk of the audience that makes the console big 3 the most money.

The casual audience that made consoles popular from the 00s on is the one that plays the most generic multiplats on earth (FIFA,Fortnite,GTA, COD and more) you can exclude Nintendo that basically killed their home console business and sells you a portable with HDMI out.

Those guys couldn't care less about a game releasing on PC or not. The only thing that that audience needs to know is that when your console runs out of games in 6/7 years you need to go to the electronics store and get the next one. Typically labeled with a higher number to avoid any confusion.

Those guys won't be building a PC for gaming and ditch consoles just because Puppeteer gets a PC port ffs...

It's a shame Puppeteer and many other PS3 games never got ported to PC. I want to play Fat Princess online.
