for sure linked to the number of projects they've cancelled. All seems to have happened around that time in the 3rd quarter when Jim announced retirement as well
Oh yes, I understood his motive... but it was misguided, like many of his ideas.
He pushed UK as a development power and Hermen pushed Holland... now both see cuts.

They are just going to take longer to make and be of lesser quality if they start firing their devs. We've seen how that goes before multiple times.
Can we now collectively agree that Jim Ryan was cancer for Playstation?
- Live service bet failed and backfired, with people being laid-off and studios closing
- Closed 4 studios (and nuked most of Japan Studio)
- PC ports that sold peanuts and only served to have people move out of Sony's own ecosystem into a competing platform (competing platform by his own words)
- Missed PS5 sales projections by 4M at a time their main competitor is selling less than last gen
- 2024 with ZERO first party single player games (yeah, they are publishing some, but that's it). The worst year for their single party studios in well over a decade!
- Nothing so far to show for 2025 other than Death Stranding (which is their IP but also a third-party studio)
- Let their relationships with japanese studios degrade to a point where Xbox is actually getting perks that PS doesn't get (looking at Sega here)
Guerilla has two multiplayer games based on their Horizon IP.

NCSoft MMO, which is like 99.9% by NCSoft.
Guerilla has been personally named in the blog, meaning it's a significant amount of layoffs.
Which means that their MP game has been significantly affected.
The big issue was timing. It wasn’t smart to push for the UK, when their economy is in the shit right now.
Infuriating. This is why I hope Nintendo and Valve make a move into more traditional consoles. Seems like Sony can't handle having success on their console business without doing stupid things.
And who do you think are going to replace them? The people calling the shots were the people that put Jim Ryan in charge in the first place and told him to go in this direction.

He was clearly following what Phil Spencer was doing with Xbox. Would be just a matter of time until PlayStation exclusives would be released on Xbox under his management.
Yeap... I liked Jimbo but his retirement was forced and not something he chooses.
Executives where not happy with him (forget Iconera hate on him... that hold nothing at all).
And I think you are right the all Live Service money spent without return took his head.
Plus I should add the PC initiative was not done right because the sales of most titles were bad... maybe big games like GoW, Horizon, Spider-man, etc have a change to sell ok in PC but titles like R&C, Sackboy, Returnal, etc are failed to not recover the port costs.
Along with the slowdown in sales. The writing was on the wall from last year Spring but some didn't wanna acknowledge it
Yeah after helldivers 2 crashed and burned they're likely to stop making live service games and stop making PC games.
