Another dopamine framing asshat on twitter, the most untrustworthy place for credible info.
Some people fail to realize how extremely hard it is to leak acquisitions or even get a hint of it. You will literally have to be a fly on the wall to be able to pull the shit off or be in the boardroom meeting when the negotiating is happening.

I would say Konami would be quite valuable to Sony, especially from football side of things. They've been pouring money everywhere, but eFootball should be valuable to them, along with MGS and Castlevania.

Konami is much cheaper than EA, and they can still acquire more. eFootball isn't dead vs FIFA (or FC24 now or something) and they might do the sucker punch and get FIFA rights while at it.

They should focus on Japan indeed. Much cheaper companies, not overpriced with solid IP's.

Just buying the IP's should be enough. It would be great bang for the buck.

I agree it would be a bang for the buck but the most valuable IP in Konami treasure trove is Yu-Gi-Oh I wonder if they would be willing to sell that 🤔 because it's a mobile centric and generates a lot of money also the problem that Playstation would have to find teams for them to create the games one is bluepoint and the other is Kojima productions

This guy may have drug issues, look at this thread:

Bandai Namco would be an acquisition that would make total sense since they have the license for a ton of top animes, are used to make successful anime adaptations, have many iconic game IPs as Tekken, Elden Ring, Dark Souls, Pac-Man or Ridge Racer and also is the 2nd top grossing toy maker in the world and is an anime and games merch expert.

But it has a market cap of $13.5B, which as I remember means it's the biggest Japanese 3rd party publisher. And the whole Sony only had around $140M of budget for acquisitions+investments+stock repurchases for the current FY before acquiring that headsets company. Plus Sony said they'll continue with the acquisitions in the mid to long term.

So I'd say that in a 99% Sony won't make any big acquisition this or early next fiscal year. And even less to acquire EA + Bandai Namco + Konami IPs as this guy say.

Can you provide source that Sony only has $140 million, no not from your own analysis, an actual source that says they only have that much for M&A. I’ve seen you throwing around these numbers without actually providing the sources.

So, I spotted this dude a couple days ago and been snooping around his tweets.

Take a look at this:

8 days later:

He's been very active lately:

And just posted this:

Suspicious Mr Johnson GIF by ABC Network

In his twitter bio he claims to have worked on Bend, Deviation and Ember Labs. But there's no Alex Smith on the game credits of Kena, Days Gone or Uncharted Golden Abbyss.

The source is Sony's FY2022 fiscal report documents, when they did show the results of the last fiscal year April 28th 2023.

They released multiple documents and it was needed to cross the info from different documents and minor basic math skills (substract what they spent in FY2022 and FY2021 from their 3 years budget that ends in the current FY) to get the number. Here I provided screenshots of the public Sony docs and explained them plus did the math to get the $140M (back then, before the Audeze acquisition and with the Yen to dollar exchange available back then):
https://icon-era.com/threads/sony-p...-this-next-fiscal-year.3429/page-2#post-92376

These screenshots are from the Sony fiscal report docs, you can download them on the Sony IR page (I'd bet it's this one, there may be more FY2022 documents in their IR page). I assume that searching a portion of the quoted text in Screenshots you'll find them on google or the search of the IR page.

I explained the budget size and movement a bit more in this other post.

In this other thread I posted the source where they mention that will sell 80% of their banks division in a process that will take 2-3 years and will use that cash for acquisitions:
https://icon-era.com/threads/report...roactive-merger-acquisitions.3781/post-102250

The dollar vs yen exchange will have changed since then so the current translation to dollars may differ and maybe now aren't $140M right now, but should be close.

Sony ain’t acquiring a big publisher or studio. They know they can’t win a spending contest with MS.
Its not about winning a spending war and they don’t need to win a spending war. They have enough to acquire any one of a lot of the names that’s been floated without breaking a sweat. Also ppl keep pushing the idea that they don’t have enough money. journalists like Paul Tasso took a huge L when he said ps couldn’t afford bungie. Not only ps spend more on bungie than Microsoft was willing to they added a billion + more for retention. Sony could easily buy sega but it’s garbage so why would they want to, square is cheaper now than it’s been in yrs, cdpr would be cheap than square, pearl abyss around the same price, several of the new triple A studios that Ave been created over the past few years would be pretty cheap. Sony has options but they will do what’s best for the future and not just buy random sht to make fans happy.

Yes, most of the Sony GaaS we know were greenlighted before the Jim Ryan and Hermen Hulst era.

Most of the known Sony games greenlighted by Jim Ryan and Hermen Hulst on their era aren't GaaS.

The majority of the more than 25 games they had under development at PS Studios aren't GaaS. They planned to have a dozen IPs with GaaS titles, so far they have MLB, GT7, Firewall, Destiny and prety likely next year they'll release at least Helldivers, Concord and Marathon, so less than half a dozen GaaS will be remaining and pretty likely one of them will be Bungie's Matter.

Just here to point out Yurinka’s continued bullshit assumptions.

Matter is Marathon. Nvidia leak was on the money.

Marathon is a 2025 game.

I don’t think it is. Bungie wanted to debut their next game in 24 as stated years back. It looks like it is IMO. It’ll drop way before concord or any other new internal projects. I’d still take Bungie’s original plans as pretty much what’s happening.

Even as hiring continues for the game … it’s a live service game. Its dev team will only balloon if it does well.

There’s also the possibility of destiny not having an expansion next year as it retires the seasonal format and moves to an episodic one to lead into tentpole expansions at a difference cadence. They would need to release a game/expansion for the year.
