I don't understand such messages. What do such player numbers say? There are reports like this in various F2P or Gamepass games. It's logical that with Gamepass, with over 50 million subscribers on PC and Xbox, many people at least play the game.

The sales figures and turnover are much more interesting and important. I just don't understand how they are now selling this as a success and not giving any sales figures. That's what everyone is really interested in, imo.

Not bad at all. I wonder what percentage of players will end up being gamepass long run — probably upwards of 80% if I were to guess.

“If we are going by their 2 claims. They had over 1 million concurrent players at one point and steam has around 250~270k around the time they mentioned that. That would mean on xbox series x, they have to have at least 750~950k playing simultaneously on the low end. What we are either made to believe is, that since it hasn't hit even 2 million across all platforms or they'd announce it, that somewhere between 1/6th to probably 1/5th of players are playing at other times that it can't peak higher than the current 1 million across all platforms. That would mean there is an equal amount of players leaving to do work or something else and that it negates the amount of people coming in to play the game for just a few hours? It would make sense if we're talking 1/2th or 1/3rd but for every one player playing right now, there are 5 others not playing in every 1 million to me seems like a huge stretch. I'd need to see examples of some games that would match this scenario” anon, 4chan

There was 1,000,000 concurrent players (1 Steam per 3 Game Pass):
>250,000 Steam players
>750,000 game pass players

Assuming that the concurrent players is a valid sample and the 1:3 ratio still applies:
>6,000,000 players
>1,500,000 steam players
>4,500,000 game pass players

Average game price on Steam is $85. (30% cut to Steam) = $59.50
Average game pass price is $13.50 (benefit of the doubt - don't know the Game Pass cut).

Game budget is $200,000,000.
Total budget with advertising is rumored to be around $400,000,000.

>1,500,000 x $59.50 = $89,250,000
>4,500,000 x $13.50 = $60,750,000
Total: $150,000,000

Being really generous, Bethesda is $50,000,000 in the hole. Considering the rumored amount including advertising, Bethesda is $250,000,000 in the hole.”-anon, 4chan

No guys we totally have 6 majillion players it says so right here

*Includes all GamePass plays, right down to a minute or two

These Xbox numbers are very silly, as are most of the metrics the F2P market is using. It would be more meaningful to discuss subscriptions generated, actual unit sales, DLC upsells, and revenue in general, but that’s not something Microsoft has wanted to do for a decade now, perhaps with good reason

You’re missing PC gamespass. Steam will most likely not be where most casual pc players are.

Exactly, it's so ambiguous and meaningless.

This is so ridiculous. They've been bragging for a decade about the 12 millions Fallout 4 sales on Day 1 and now 6 millions players is the biggest launch?

They think we're stupid.
Apparently, they shipped 12 million on day one They didn't share sales numbers but if I remember well , VGCharts(If their estimates are anything to go by) had estimated they sold around 5M copies during the first week.

Microsoft 2024 Annual Results: Surprisingly, the most significant driver of promotion and sales for Starfield was the Iconera forum

But joking aside, it will filter out of the news cycle as everything does. Imo, the best answer to a single game and its associated stories leading discussion, is to go make some other stuff.

So they shipped 12 millions and after 8 days they only sold 5 millions? 7 millions copies sat there on store shelves unsold?

Don't make me laugh. They are just rewriting history to make the Starfield launch bigger than it is. The company was private back then so it's not like they had shareholders anyway.

Fallout is big, but not big enough to sell 12 million copies first day lol
