Games like FF14, Destiny, GTA Online, Rocket League, Fortnite are great example of these type of games. As long as there is a story to play and it continues like FF14, Destiny then Im down. I want more than a 20-40 hour experience, give me something that lasts years lol.
People were scared about Helldivers 2, myself included, its a great success.

The Destiny-like is the one that’s too expensive to make. So much so I expect Bungie’s approach to service with a change in service and production. The expansion model of campaign plus endgame is fine but the seasonal stuff is def not working anymore.

I would like to believe there is still a way to use the Destiny/hitman model to deliver something like a Mass Effect Trilogy thru similar distribution. Aiming so big might be the issue too of course.

iO Interactive should’ve been a top pick for Sony acquisition.

This doesn’t necessarily mean online multiplayer games and battlepasses at all. Take a look at Hitman World of Assasin’s. This is an example of a single player game(s) ditching “boxed” releases to a service model to deliver sequels and engine overhauls.

Otherwise there’s not much in this listing that telegraphs what kind of game this is for.

Yup. It can also be something like Ghost of Tsushima:

• Open world SP campaign as initially single game mode
• Post launch MP game mode
• Post launch big expansion as DLC

Or something like Far Cry 6:

• Open world SP campaign as main game mode
• Once you progress in the campaign until certain point -let's say the first handful hours completing a first set of main missions- a coop mode gets unlocked
• Some small post launch DLC content spread in different releases
• Microtransactions for early unlocks of items you can also unlock by playing

Or something like Assassin's Creed:

• Open world SP campaign as only game mode (but in this case with coop since the start)
• Meaty post launch seasons of DLC content
• Microtransactions for cosmetics/skins

For sure, PlayStation breaking records have nothing to do with games. It should have to do with selling potatoes. Sure.

Regarding game specific records, as happened in PS4 too, most of their studios broke in PS5 their record of most successful game ever for the studio/IP.

And in most cases their studio also has more people than ever and in many cases are working in more games at the same time than ever.


Yes, I realized that Sony PC games aren't affecting their records.

Looking at the factual data shared by Sony in their fiscal reports every fiscal year and quarter report nothing leads to think that PC games are having any negative effect at all for their console: their console continues growing and breaking records as usual.

Spider-Man 2 wasn't negatively affected by PC: instead it was the fastest selling PS exclusive ever in Sony history. So if PC had any effect, was to increase its sales by making PC players who got the PC port buy a console to play Spider-Man 2.

Regarding game development, PC ports don't affect them at all because are made by dedicated teams like Nixxes, Jetpack Interactive, Iron Galaxy or Virtuos.

Maybe because they closed down studios, canceled games and haven't announced or shown barely anything in ages. They deserve all of it.

We owe them nothing and have no reason to give them the benefit of the doubt when they keep taking the PlayStation user base for granted.

GaaS pivot is directly tied to PC ports. I have very little confidence in Sony at this point, it's on them to convince me otherwise.

I wasn't complaining during the PS3 and most of the PS4 gen, all the dooming is caused by Sony actions and inaction.

A studio that had a lot of difficulty releasing their PS4 AAA game is now going to transition to live service games? Sony migth as well save the money and close the studio already.

They have to give them the resources otherwise its another stupid mistake by Sony like with ND.

ND should of been given an entite new team to let them carry on making there single player games and Factions from 2018/2019, when they decided they wanted to do it as a seperate game.

Like most of you, I don;t care about PC ports and am not a fan. Much less of that GaaS crap. But man, some of you need to dial it down a bit.
