Not good for PlayStation hardware.

Sony gonna have to do a lot of leg work outside the U.S if this trend keeps up. We're in prime years.

Reaching more or less lifetime parity with the PS4 should be seen for what it's - a failure, specially when Xbox is declining at a rapid pace. Should be gunning for PS2 install base numbers, and this is not the pace to reach it. Someone's gobbling up a slice of the shrinking Xbox base and largely unaccounted.... guess who? "Nintendo!" "Nintendo!".... well yeah, a slice that should be accounted for but PC as well, and that is the one not being accounted for. You got a proper three way split of the Xbox base (Switch, PlayStation, PC), instead of simply a defacto 2 way split (PlayStation heavy and Nintendo). Since Valve keeps a lid on financials, it's going to be tough judging just how much of the Xbox loss, is a PC gain.

Kill PC porting, and soon. The monster is already here. Jim and company can't bounce soon enough. There are also macro economic trends at play but still - excuses are cheap.

It’s cause they haven’t done any significant sales on their current hardware

in 2016 You forget we had the PS4 Pro and the $299 PS4.

Discount Season Soon imo

They sold over a million units at mostly 499 and outsold their competition 2:1. PS5 has been 499 for almost 3 years, they need to lower the price.

I say $100 price drop, then do the Pro at $549, again they only did 50k less than ps4. this isn't all that bad at all for hardware that's more expensive. Also please everyone buy alan wake 2

Era are too shameless

Trying to say the decrease is because of an increase in the PC market

How can I put it in the simplest of terms for you and others to work it out:

The unit sales pace is not poised to surpass PS4 lifetime by a significant margin, despite its main direct competitor seeing a significant decline. Hence there lies a problem. Stands to reason, as a direct PlayStation competitor, an Xbox decline in unit sales should more or less be reflected by a relative increase of PlayStation unit sales. It's never going to be 1:1, but it's going to be a significantly higher ratio than the Nintendo Switch ratio, and the PC ratio. Conventional wisdom goes that way more or less. Well turns out, the PlayStation ratio is way lower than what it should be, clearly. That means PC is eating at a higher ratio than what some may have thought, on top of the Switch phenomenon continuing to show legs, absent with the Wii U - which I welcome and got no beef with.

Have to laugh at some forumners still posting around the idiocy that PC is an indirect competitor. Numbers don't lie.

They sold less than last year and didn't goggle up a significant majority of consumers that didn't buy Xbox as opposed to last year. The pace is not poised to surpass PS4 lifetime by a significant margin, despite its main direct competitor seeing a significant decline.

Who's getting a slice of the pie that is not being accounted for?
PS4 was 399 for most of its life compared to 499, widely avavailbale, and was 299 its third holiday plus the pro just came out. IDK if sony will reach 25 million sold but they just over 1 million at mostly 499, spiderman 2 had good legs, older software picked up in sales if you look passed the top 10, and outsold xbox 2:1 in its strongest market. Look im usually a debbie downer but this is a good month for PS no matter how people want to spin it.

PS5 also sells far better in other markets then the PS4 did

What seems to have happened is the PS5 took mindshare away from Xbox in the USA whilst not growing mindshare whilst elsewhere in the world it’s growing mindshare

The concern trolling about PS5 hardware sales and Alan Wake 2 sales is hilarious when Sony is doing a record year sales wise, and Alan Wake 2 sales are not even tracked because Epic doesn't share the data.

But you will see more actual hardware declines thanks to Jim Ryan's first party drought in 2024.

Please post link 🤣🤣

They also argued that ABK pulls in so much money that it can just subsidize hardware and it doesn't matter how poorly the console sells.
