meanwhile Arrowhead, a studio that works actively with PlayStation since 2015 and literally generated their biggest GAAs game so far remains independent, Mihoyo, a company that could've been chosen for an acquisition to increase both GAAs and Mobile ambitions instead of Bungie is now porting a big GAAs game to Xbox (Genshin Impact, actually bigger in playerbase than Destiny btw) a game that used to be exclusive to Playstation consoles and is one of the biggest GAAs games on PSN, but no, according to him Bungie was the excellent acquisition, not something that would actually benefit the PlayStation brand like Mihoyo, also, thanks to these GAAs ambitions, 2023 only saw one tentpole release coming from first party and 2024 has seen none, a crucial year to the generation since it's the exact mid of the generation where consoles and games should sell the most.

Don't know how accurate those sales numbers are but either way, Sony should make them a support studio for Naughty Dog after they resurrect Factions!! Yes, yes, yes. :)

Joking aside, I have no clue what Sony will do with this studio if the sales were truly that bad.

While I understand what you're saying, it does require the development studio to be willing to sell. Some development studios truly want to stay independent because they can do what they want instead of a big publisher telling them what to do.

Which games? Don't say helldivers because they are completely different in terms of investment level
What investment?

A 150 employee studio in 5 years won't driver over $100m development costs.
It is not like TLOU2 with over 350 employees plus contractors working for over 5 years that costed > $200m.

What make you think Concord's development costs was that higher than Helldivers 2's development costs?

First of all, Arrowhead is half the size of Concord's dev team, also Arrowhead didn't use any motion capture for helldivers (except for the one intro cinematic), also Sony didn't spend money to buy out Arrowhead like they spent money to buy Firewalk. Any other questions?

I still can’t believe they budgeted for weekly cinematics and a lore map for a PvP game.

Destiny’s seasonal model would do that. It was sorta cool for a time. And in that instance it often comes with a story mission of some kind.

It’s like they took all those ideas (in a time where Destiny needs to move away from that) and applied it to a game where it doesn’t make any sense.

They expected way more from the characters and players interest in them. Bad bet. It’s a PvP game… no one actually cares about the story here. Like wtf you smokin

Acquisition costs are not development costs lol
And yes... I have a lot of question and challenge anybody to prove that Concord's development costs is way higher than Helldivers 2.

Plus I never saw Sony selling any MP game without a SP at full price.

Lmao helldivers 2 team started as 35 people, tell me how it's not less expensive than a team of 150+

Do you think FireWalk had 150 devs on team for the entire development? When they started in 2018 they had just gotten the game pitched.

More like 100 people worked in Helldivers 2.
Plus it was developed for over 8 years.
Wrong. The studio only had 100 people in 2023. The CEO said the studio had 35 devs for much of it, and the website said they had 60 devs in 2020.

You do realize that firewalk is in Bellevue right? The salaries alone would cross 75+ million for 3 years for 150 people even if you assume the studio size was smaller for the initial 3-4 years.

Helldivers 2 dev costs are going to be half of what concord cost because the studio is located in stockholm instead of the west coast.
