Enthusiasm for the PS5 Pro seems to be non-existent amongst most video game developers, with most claiming there is no need for it

You make it sound like they are gonna rewrite code for the PS5 pro when all we gonna see are resolution bumps and extra RT.

It’s the same CPU with more GPU grunt.

We have been through this before with the PS4 pro and Xbone X.
The base code is there.
Developers have to add extra code, plus set new profiles, optimize them and tests them (QA).

We already passed that with PS4 Pro and Xbox One X.
And it was confirmed that each new platform and mode added extra work on the developer side.
Extra works costs money.

Plus we again passed that with Series S and that is the reason developers hate it.
The work cost / work to create a new profiles for Series S machine.

Like the others game developer said... just the extra work for PS4 Pro accounted for 8% of total work load (cost) of the game.
Imagine.... adding more devices likes Series S and PS5 Pro.

And people still asks why game development costs increased a lot from PS4?
The amount of extra work added with multiple platforms and games mode is one of the biggest cost driven here.

Base game: $100m
Each mode: +$5m
Each hardware device: +$10m

5 platforms with 2 modes each: $160m (fictional numbers).

Understood now? I posted articles with developers talking about the extra work PS4 Pro added in the previous page.

If people do more research...

Mark Cerny about PS4 Pro.

As a mid-generation release, we knew that whatever we did needed to require minimal effort by the developers,” he said. “ In general, our target was to keep the work needed for PS4 Pro support to a fraction of a percent of the overall effort of creating a game. I believe we have achieved that target.”

He is clear it needs effort from developers.
It says their target was a fraction of the total effort to creating game.
That is a bit obtuse because fraction of percent can me a lot: 1/8, 1/20, 1/10.

But let's says is it lower than 1/10 to stay in the single digit percent and match with the Killing Floor 2's developer experience (8% of total work load to create the PS4 Pro profiles).

That is still a lot of dev work and money.

For example %5 from $100m is still $5m added cost to each mid-gen hardware added.
You can end having added extra cost from 10% to 20% just because you have mid-gen upgrades.

Developers will never like mid-gen upgrades.
These that say the opposite are just being a marketing sponsor.
Of course the as consumers the advantages and disadvantages are all different and we can argue that for consumers it is really a good move.

With all due respect, try not to act smarter than you think you are by throwing figures and percentages around.

What you said they do that for PC ports too. You have custom settings and preset settings like Low, Medium, High, Very High and Ultra.

A game on PS5 could be High settings and Ultra settings for PS5 Pro for example.

Most games are multiplatform including PC so it’s not like they aren’t gonna code it anyway.

Come on now.

This is simply a case of paid shills saying it’s not needed cause Microsoft aren’t doing it.

Well that goes for everything then.

We didn’t need the 4000 series Nvidia cards cause the 3000 series ones haven’t been used to full potential yet?

Nor the new Ryzen or 7000 series AMD GPUs.

Why does the Iphone 15 exist?

Why the Switch or Steamdeck OLED?

Nonsense.

If you need to pay all that money you must not have a PS5.

I'll never understand how an optional upgrade bothers people so much, specially when Sony is the one that does the least amount of this stuff compared to XBox, Nintendo and PC. Even the Steam Deck already has a significant upgrade.
You're just talking complete nonsense yet again

That means nothing to consoles development...
On PC you just left the options there and users do the try and error to find the best for themselves... plus AMD and nVidia do a lot of hard work for developers with specific games drivers optimizations.

On consoles for each mode you want to add the developers needs to implement it doing what the end users and nVidia/AMD do on PC.
Extra work.

PS4 Pro added extra work to developers.

But hey we are here with people still spreading these bullshit that it just a change in config file or use a slider that Xbox diehard crowed made up lol
The magical way to scaling games bullshit 😂
Im not spreading anything, is just a simple view. Bullshit or not, it really wasnt that hard for developers as PS4 Pro was fine, you really didnt hear many studios complain. You should also stop spreading that it was something that troubled so many developers and that its so hard to do.

You name one BS developer complaining about it. PS studio games were fine as were alot of other games. God of War, Horizon at higher fps. Dark Souls 3, KH3 at 60fps etc.

If you dont like it, dont but it. If developers find it too hard, dont make games or dont put your games on PS. Its not the end of the world.

If it wasnt for PS4 Pro, studios would not be giving options like performance mode or Graphics mode or various other options like Insomniac does. PS4 Pro opened the door for options and finally did BC properly for previous games.

There making a PS5 Pro, yall need to get over it

In all honesty, im 50/50 on the PlayStation 5 Pro mainly due to the fact that I know developers including Sony's own internal studios won't get everything out of the base model until the console's life cycle is near the end so are they really going to be able to squeeze everything possible out of the Pro in only four years since im expecting PlayStation 6 to launch in November 2028?

The percents are form own dev words 🤷‍♂️
You are just digging for something that doesn’t exists at all.

There is extra work and developers and even Cerny said it.

I posted links and quotes but you guys keep being fooled by Xbox bullshit narrative.

For one and for GDK doesn’t do any miracle… devs needs extra work to all modes and Xbox hardware they are targeting.

Moving the goal post to attack lol

I never said PS5 Pro won’t happen… I even said there are advantages for consumers.

But you guys are in denial about the fact that developers talks in a lot of GDC in the past that mid-gen upgrades increase the cost of the games.

Cerny himself said itx

Developers doesn’t like mid gen upgrades because it needs extra work from their side.
It is so easy to understand but we are here with the same bullshit in denial.

Good part of increase in game development costs is the increase of number of hardware and optional modes.
And before you again mislead the PC case… in consoles developers have to do what the own consumer plus AMD/nVidia do in PC.

What about this is 'doom & gloom' are you saying playstation would be doomed if they didn't release a pro console 🤣

The same "devs" who were saying why do we need a pro console are the same ones not releasing games on Xbox because the ROI in non existent

Seth Meyers Lol GIF by Late Night with Seth Meyers

But like I said you only seem to get a negative PlayStation coverage when the fact that Xbox's terminal cancer gets brought up.

That is not true at at all.

To create a new profile, optimize it to be stable and do the basic QA it takes a lot of extra effort from developers.
PS5 games run on PS5 Pro by default, they dont have to do anything...

Just like they don't for every PC hardware configuration
