Well, they are a "you had to be there" series imo. The gameboy games were amazing and OoT was (rightfully) considered to be a contender for best game of all time for a number of years, although by now it's incredibly dated. Personally I think both really lack when it comes to story but they are really strong on some other aspects.
ToTK level of polish for the new mechanics is absurd.
The graphics in ToTK are great, some of the best art out there and runs at a mostly solid30fps. Yeah I would still have preferred 4k60 but it was fine.
TotK is one of the best games, if not the best, I have personally played IMO. The reviews for it are correct. It has nothing to do with wanting to fit some narrative, the game is just incredible. I know that opinion is not incredibly popular in some circles, but again, I don't care about platforms, just games. Zelda and Metroid are practically the only things left from Nintendo I play, and I picked Returnal as my game of the year over Metroid Dread because I thought Returnal was just better overall.
It's going to take a miracle for anything to beat TotK this year I think, and like I said, it has nothing to do with any media agenda.

Zelda games were hit or miss to me. I loved the NES and SNES games, loved OoT and WW. Never cared for any of the games released after, until BoTW and ToTK, these two are masterpieces.
ToTK is definitely Game of The Year this year. Even if I already declared Final Fantasy 16 my Game of The Year before this year started. But, ToTK deserves its accolades and puts many of these 150+ million dollar budgets games to shame easily in many ways.
The physics engine of zelda is just unparalleled for an open world adventure game

I think it has a strong narrative behind it though. FF16 and any other game would have to pull a lot of weight to get over that hump.
Zelda probably still has many Game of the Year wins in the bag simply because it's Zelda. XVI will definitely leave its mark, regardless. Not only as one of the best games of the year, but one of the best games of the generation and one of the best games in the Final Fantasy franchise.
To touch on why the Eikonic Challenge was added to the demo, I think it's pretty clear: they wanted to give players a chance to experience a taste of what mid-game fighting will be like, because the story portion of the demo only gave you two Phoenix abilities. Your only real offense were those and your basic combos. If the demo were just the prologue, the combat would erroneously leave the impression on totally blind players that the gameplay doesn't get anymore complicated. With some later game content included, those assumptions will be dispelled.

Unfortunately won't happen the industry won't go up against Nintendo like that. But we all know FF XVI is the GOTY.Unless FFXVI turns out to be the true GoTY.
No we don't, it's not even out.
It will have it's shot tho. I'm hoping for the best to make this a historic year in terms of high quality games.

Well it's been my GOTY from I saw the State of Play personally. I have full confidence in the team behind it.

Its a good thing this year isn’t going to have an almost undisputed GOTY like last year. God of War put up a fight but it was never gonna overthrow elden ring realistically.
This year, zelda even if it wins the Keighlys will not be a consensus goty winner, it will be split pretty evenly between at least 4-5 games come award season.
Especially since people are going to have bias for their preferred platform exclusives

So far it ain't going to be split at all, what has released that would win over Zelda ToTK?
Of the upcoming game I only see FFXVI having a shot due to how good the story look. I have no faith in Starfield being able to beat Zelda.
