For those that hate Sony, What made you feel the way you do about them?

I love Sony as a company and I love their games.

What I hate is the attitude of some Sony fans that their games and hardware are superior to everything out even if there are other hardware/games that are better. There are some games that are definitely very good and even superior at times through the years. So the attitude "so which Sony game will be GOTY this year" even before the year has started is what I'm talking about. There is just no open mindedness about other studios that are great that may take the crown (i.e. like Elden Ring or RDR2 for example).

-sony were kind of seen as the bully of the industry and lacked the gaming heritage of Sega and Nintendo. They also took Square Enix games away from Nintendo in the N64 generation after a tight relationship on SNES. They brought in non-gaming features like music CDs and DVD movies and used them to attack the pure gaming companies, bucking off Sega in the process. Nintendo and Sega fans are both are upset. PS is synonymous with casual gaming.

Mid 00's:

-PS2 gets an uneven majority amount of 3rd party support, people are jealous and upset.

2006/7

-PS3 launch is botched, the whole $600 get a second job fiasco, and the 360 is very popular and gets a lot of former PS exclusives, creating a new console war dynamic between those 2.

2013:

Xbox gets damn near bucked off with a disaster reveal, sony rubs their face in defeat (this is how you share used games, etc) Xbox fans are livid and form a decade (decadeS?) long grudge.

2015:

Rise of the Tomb Raider Xbox exclusive. this one deal gets extra scrutiny from the press wondering about a PS4 version. Xbox fans take note of how they're treated like second class citizens and their hatred for sony intensifies.

today:
the chaos we see today: Acqusition wars, FF7/16 Remake exclusivity, etc. Xbox fans, who used to enjoy a 50/50 split in the industry, and remember the days of defacto 360/PS3 multiplats, are extra angry at Xbox's newly diminished status in the industry.

I don't dislike sony, but there are lots of reasons for people to dislike sony. lol.

i just gave you a laundry list.

1. Sony came into the business as a multimedia company who used their proprietary CDs and DVDs to bully traditional gaming companies (Sega, Nintendo).

2. Sony's success took games away from Nintendo fans, and then got Sega cornered out of the market. (Sega and Sony kind of shot for the same market, adult gamers, where as nintendo was for more for kids-teens)

3. PS2 enjoyed immense success and got a disproportionate amount of 3rd party games, exclusives, and support.

4. PS3 launch is a travesty, $600, get a second job. Sony looks cocky. 360 emerges as a fierce competitor.

5. 360 and PS3 are pretty much 50/50.

6. Xbox gets embrassed in 2013. "This is how you share used games". SOny rubs their face in defeat, pissing off xbox fans.

7. 2015: Xbox gets extra scrutiny for Rise of the Tomb Raider. Xbox fans see a double standard in how they're treated. The idea of media bias begins.

8. 2013-now: PS is now more popular than xbox, no more 50/50 split. PS starts getting exclusives, xbox fans feel slighted.

9. Xbox gives everything to PC. PC users are happy they get everything from Xbox. PC users feel no more threat from Xbox, and focus all their hatred on Sony. This why forums like REEset, run by entitled PC gamers, have shepherded the idea that sony is anti-consumer for still making exclusives they can't play.

They should blame Nintendo for sticking with cartridges. It was literally impossible for Square to release FF7 on Nintendo 64 because of that. They should be grateful Sony had the technology to make all these big Square RPGs from the 90s.

The rest is all jealousy and envy.

obviously looking back the move to CDs was the right one. But it was also pushing non-gaming features like a music CD player to sell consoles, whereas people thought the focus should be on games.

the DVD player on the PS2 was absolutely huge. It was my first DVD player and a lot of people's too, probably. they pushed that thing like mad, lol

I think they have the ability to better serve their customer base.

The PS+ tweaking we got last month or whenever, should have been addressed mid ps4 gen.

I don’t know… I still fell the PS++ and PS+++ not worth.
IMO I can buy a game that I really want to play instead to pay more for PS++ or PS+++.

You sure about that? My favorite 'exclusive' games from last generation were Quantum Break, Forza Horizon 3, The Last of Us: Part 2, and Death Stranding.

My favorite(s) so far this generation? Halo Infinite. What's suspicious?
