I double checked it now and it's true, MHW, Capcom Arcade Stadium (F2P) and Capcom Arcade Statium 2 (F2P) are above it.

Capcom Arcade and Arcade 2 are "fake" CCUs, the games were botted for the purpose of Steam Trading Cards

In general if you look at the top played games on Steam and you notice a game you've NEVER heard of, just check the all time graph and if there's a random spike to an absurd number for just a single day.

Capcom Arcade Stadium

MHW is legit though.

In theory like in any other big online game they'll keep increasing or decreasing the amount of servers as they need more players. The thing is that games almost always have scalability issues: there's some thing that may be saturated and break when you reach an certain amount of players, then something else breaks when reaching certain other level of players, something else breaks when reaching another... the higher you go, more things get saturated and break.

As an example, in Helldivers 2 at some point the matchmaking failed, then when increased the amount of users the rewards failed, and yesterday when they increased more their database failed. Plus when their servers are full the system stops allowing new players appearing the login issue, where the game doesn't allow you to enter until someone else disconnects.
https://steamdb.info/app/1515950/charts/#all
So they have to scale their servers relatively slowly first to don't waste money hiring a ton of unused servers and second to solve issues before scaling and finding a new one. Because if they scale too fast many issues could appear, and even the whole system could collapse, something that still didn't happen.

Yep pretty much, things often break at scale especially if it was never a big consideration in your mind.

This is the conundrum of using second party studios you don’t own yet. If their game is a huge hit, acquiring them is now exponentially more expensive than putting a ring on it before hand. See square soft, see from software, see atlus, see super massive. All got too big or got away from Sony even though almost all of their success is due to them.

Doubt Arrowhead are now exponentially more expensive since Sony owns the IP.

Dev > IP in the vast majority of cases.

One day people will learn.

If their games is a huge hit you got a huge hit. Tons of Nintendo games are developed by contracted studios.

This was much more of a problem when MS acquisitions were a real thread.

The problem is when Sony sees a partner of them like FromSoftware and Atlus and decides it's a bad investment to buy them, that is what makes no sense.

Clap Hanz is another example, long time external partner, 13 games published by Sony since 1999 and now they just released a game for everything but a PlayStation because Sony couldn't care any less about a small dev making family friendly gold games for them. Maybe I don't know Nintendo as well but I doubt that is the type of move they would pull.

Nonsense.

IPs determine the value of studios/publishers not the developers.

That is why the likes Insomniac, From and Respawn were dirt cheap.

No valuable IP no power in buy out negotiations.
MS bought Gears instead of Epic.
MS kept Halo instead of Bungie.
Bandai Namco owns the Dark Souls IP.
Konami own tons of great IPs.

What’s your point?

I am saying Arrowhead are NOT exponentially more expensive to acquire now simply because they don’t own the IP.

IP determines the value of a Studio/Publisher not the developers.

What you think a group of veteran developers can create a new studio and be valued at billions cause of their CVs.

Come on.

Even if they owned Helldivers 2 it would not make much of a difference, the success of the game is not coming from the IP at all, it's all from the studio.

Even IPs like Harry Potter, Spider-man and Batman do poorly without the right studios.
