Only blind ponies don't see this. The writing is on the wall. It is the exact xbox cycle. Day and date on PC/ other console, GaaS, subscriptions, wait till E3.
TBH the Spiderman 3 part was the first Ive heard. And without mention PS numbers its a bit weird. Wishful thinking because PS said they wont do Day 1 because its not good for there business. Like releasing Day 1 on subcription isnt good and they kept there word for profit motives. Thats why I still think Sony might not do day and date, it doresnt even make sense for them, so maybe they see that. Maybe not.
You cant really compare it to Xbox cycle though.
1. PS to PC release is different to what Xbox did.
Xbox suddenly went day and date with there big titles in 2016, when Halo 5 failed to move Xbox 1 numbers in 2015.
After that Gears, Forza, Sea of Thieves and the 1st party games went day and date with Windows/PC. 2016 onwards. They never had slowed released like PS to PC (1-3+ years etc)
They were forced to do it because Halo 5 didnt work out for them, and Xbox 1 was not selling well.
All games released at the same time after 2016. Alot of games before that werent even ported to PC like Halo 5, Xbox 1 only. They never did what PS is doing now with a fazed release. I dont like them releasing on PC, but its not the same or been similar to each other atm.
2. Subscriptions. Playstation actually had a subcription service before Xbox, it was PS NOW in 2014. While Gamepass was 2017. PS didnt fold like the industry and media was begging, porting AAA games day one on subscription like Gamepass. But they didnt copy Xbox for a subsciption service. They just rebranded PS+ from PS NOW which was released before.
3. Gaas? I dont even know what you mean by this. PS copied MS for Gaas? As in online Multi player games?
Studios are making more Gaas games because they make money. And a huge percentage of gamers play MP. Sony has had Gaas and MP games before Xbox was even a console.
They had plenty Online MP games on PS3 and even PS2 with Socom, Final Fantasy 11, Kilzone 2, Warhawk, Uncharted 2 etc and more.
They arent copying MS, they just see theres huge money to make in MP percentage of gamers too, which they didnt concentrate on during the PS4. Games like Fortnite and Apex Legends are probably bigger reasons they are trying it. They are still releasing SP games and more of them then MP games.
4. Wait till E3.
While Sony has been lacking in this department, Sony did say they dont want to announce most there games from far out, like with Ghost of Yotei coming next year. Astrobot coming out within a year of getting announced etc. I dont agree with it, but thats what they wanna do. I see loads of issues with it.
It wasnt the same as MS, who always said wait til E3 for the next console saving titles. And then when they got announced, still be years and years out like HellBlade 2, Perfect Dark etc.
