It's not cannibalization Sony wants to expand beyond PlayStation if fanboys like you are upset by that then vote with your wallet and boycott Sony otherwise stop complaining and just enjoy the video games that they give you
Ultimately PS fanboys win.

A dead PS is a good PS in the eyes of many. Having everything related to gaming under steam benefits the fanboys with really the only negative being those companies that either imploded or no long existing to the ways they previously existed before there mistake.

Look at Xbox. Ultimately Xbox made it easy for Xbox fanboys to invest in Steam/PC & they never look back. Xbox fanboys that transition have nothing to worry it’s really the only ones that are coping of some sort of comeback

I think it’s fair for someone who bought in into a platform/ecosystem to give there feedback on how something is being handled. If fanboys didn’t “complain” or if someone like you that tells people to essentially shut up & consume your just telling corporations to fuck you over & in itself promote bad behavior/anti consumer. That’s just weird coming from a gamer/consumer.

Hulst will lose his pants when he sees the PC sales.
Their biggest issue will be loss of future PS platform sales on both hardware and software. But I doubt they'll ever understand the basics of product differentiation in a competitive market, let alone the value of brand.

In a healthy gaming industry, all platforms have their own exclusives.

It will have less than god of war 2018 and also because of the psn requirement. God of war 2018 still had that novelty factor to it when it released on pc, Ragnarok doesnt and all of the sp ports have been selling less and less, Hfw sold less and had less players than Hzd did on pc. This won't be any different. 25k-35k at best.

@Sircaw this is a Sony doomer thread in disguise. You can tell because there is no poll and only negative editorialism.

Note OP also never puts out a number himself because he would be tied to it making goalposts moving more difficult...

PC guys have a tough decision.

Buy game from Playstation so they can keep porting stuff and make PS obsolete in their eyes.
-
This means they have to actually buy a full priced game that isn’t on sale

How are the pc ports doing less when Tsushima is the most recent and most successful?
Doing less CCU doesn't mean selling less game units, specially for full priced ports of old games. These type of games sell over time. We know some of these Sony ports sold over 3M copies as of some time ago, but we don't have GoT sales numbers.

for reference: Horizon Forbidden West had only 40k and has owner estimations of less than 500k units

Edit - Updated numbers according to public Sony numbers and the Insomniac leak:

This one sold over 2.5M as of March 2022 and 3.3M as of Feb 2023:

And this one sold 971K as of March 2022 (so in 2 months and a half) and 2.5M as of February 2023 (so in a year and a month):

Bruh if selling half of the 3m copies at 40-60% discount is a success then I dont know what to tell you. GoT is already on a 20% discount in less than 2 months on steam. They give Valve 30% cut on top of that, Are Sony so poor that they need these few millions to exist?

Heck they can make more money on PSN making a 30 million budget game than doing a 20-30 million pc port

We did the numbers several times (and saw some of them in the Insomniac leaks including budget or revenue after costs and sales units generated) and that 3M figure means dozens of millions of profit generated because these ports only costs them a handful millions.

Even the less selling ports like Sackboy gave them some profit. And these games will continue selling over years, didn't stop selling when reached that 3M or whatever leaked sales number.

These PC ports of old games are seen by Sony as an initiative with a very low risk because it's cheap and doesn't negatively affect to their console numbers (which continue growing and breaking records) and also have a high profit margin. And they need extra profits to compensate loses generated from selling console hardware to help them fund more new games.

A port that costs around 2M or 3M and generates back over 50M -case of let's say GoW 2018- has a huge ROI / profit margin. It is a great investment.

Meanwhile their console hardware has around half of sales coming from new users to the brand and console software revenue, accesories revenue and game subs revevnue are at all time highs and growing.

Why not porting on xbox? Sure that'll be a huge profit margin too.

I'd like to know in what universe PC ports are costing 2 - 3 million dollars 🤣... Are we in 1997?

And this one 2.5M on its first month or so according to Sony:

No it didn't. It sold less than 1 million in 3 months (971k). This is an official figure from Sony, they even made a chart. You're inflating the PC numbers as usual with your bullshit.

Horizon was also less at 2.4 millions and Days Gone only 852k. They didn't sell another million of Horizon on PC after 2022 the game disappeared from any chart. BS numbers.

Because that could negatively affect their console business, unlike what is happening from PC.

And well, the PC userbase, specially in emerging markets where they want to expand like Asia, is huge. So Sony uses PC to expand their brands. The Xbox userbase is pretty small and wouldn't help them to grow a lot.
